After climbing the slope past the Shibu-ya Hyakken-dana store, near the cafe Lion, you will find a long-established rock bar. The opening hours may change during live performances, but when I visited in the early evening, it was still quiet and empty. The walls were covered in graffiti, some of which seemed to include the names of famous musicians. Having already eaten elsewhere, I decided to have a Black Kirishima shochu with soda, which was quite tasty! It's like the Asahi Super Dry of shochu. The music, of course, was rock, though I couldn't quite identify the songs, they had a good vibe. There was a photo of Neil Young on the wall, looking very young. Down the spiral staircase to the basement, there was a poster from the Happy End era, which seemed quite rare. I asked the staff if I could take a photo, feeling the weight of the accumulated history of this real rock bar where live performances were once held. It was a really great place. I'll definitely come back if I'm in the area. Thank you for the wonderful experience. *I apologize for having just one drink.

Gorgonzola and honey pizza for 600 yen. The crust is crispy like a cracker. It's small, about 10 centimeters in diameter. Perfect for pairing with alcohol. Cafe au lait for 550 yen. Surrounded by valuable signatures, quietly enjoying history and music. The underground live house was much smaller than imagined.

After eating Thai food at a spring, my wife and I headed down to the streets of Shibuya. I was thinking about finding a cool bar, maybe an Irish bar, but my wife said "wait" and led me to a place called Hyakken-ten. It turns out this is a rock cafe that my wife used to frequent when she was in high school. Surprisingly, it's still here after all these years. My wife, who used to be a delinquent girl from Hiroo, practically lived here for three years during high school. It's been 40 years, but she still remembered the place vividly. The atmosphere inside the cafe was nostalgic, filled with rock star signatures like "Hachimitsu-pai," "Yukawa Toben," and "Izumiya Shigeru." They even had flyers for upcoming live performances by these artists. The cafe was playing loud Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin music while we enjoyed our drinks. It was a cozy place to be, much better than the smoky jazz cafes and rock cafes from the past. The decrease in smoking rates definitely made the atmosphere more pleasant. Back in the day, these places were filled with purple smoke and a funky smell coming from the toilets.

I ordered meat spaghetti, appetizers, and drinks, and was intoxicated by the atmosphere for a while. The restaurant is like a sacred place for musicians, so I am very satisfied that I can enjoy the feast of the heart with the appearance as a side dish.

I thought the menu was a bit pricey, but maybe it's relatively cheap for a bar? The manager is friendly and takes lots of requests! The interior is stylish and it might be fun to look for various people's signatures.

I was introduced to this restaurant by a friend last year. When I was in high school, I used to work at a liquor store nearby and delivered alcohol to various shops, so this place holds a lot of nostalgia for me. I came to Shibuya after a long time, so I decided to visit this place again. It was a late hour on a weekday, and there were no other customers inside. Last time I visited, there were a few groups of people, so it was a different experience. I decided to request a song this time, something I haven't done in a rock cafe in over 15 years. It felt nostalgic and special to have the space to myself with my favorite song playing. This is a precious place that I want to cherish.

On April 25, 2017 (Tuesday), next to the famous music café Lion, there is a rock bar. I heard rumors about it and decided to visit for the first time, and I found that it was surprisingly casual. Unlike other rock bars, there are only table seats and no counter seats, making it very approachable. You don't need to exchange glares with a stern-faced master, so even those who have never been to a rock bar before can feel at ease. They also offer coffee for 500 yen, making it possible to use as a café as well. The food menu is also extensive. The rock music from probably the 70s plays loudly in the background, but at a perfect volume where you can still chat with friends comfortably. I left the bar feeling slightly tipsy after enjoying a Heineken and a soda mixed with Early Times. The basement floor is used as a live space, and although it may not happen frequently, live performances are still held there. I thought it was a rock bar with a historical charm. [Rating] ★★★★★★★★ 8/10 [Certified as a famous restaurant!!!]

Legendary rock cafe "B.Y.G." in Shibuya, established in 1969 along with the neighboring jazz cafe "Lion". I knew about this place and had visited in the past, but I didn't know that live performances were held underground since the old days. I remember being in a smoke-filled room on the upper floors with loud hard rock music playing. It had been 33 years since I last visited B.Y.G., and it was my first time going underground. Today, I enjoyed a performance focused on music rather than comedy, and it was fantastic. I savored the sound more than ever before. I drank beer as usual, ordering 3 or 4 more rounds while snacking on sausages. I wanted to try more variety of food, but they were sold out and the small venue was naturally packed. Nevertheless, it was amazing.

Go up Dogenzaka and turn right, passing through the arcade of Hyakken-ten. I've always liked this area in Shibuya. The flashy Center Gai and Park Street don't suit me, so before I know it, I find myself climbing this small hill. The flood of glittering neon lights, the entrance to a dangerous world - that's probably why I'm drawn to it. On this day, I went to B.Y.G for the first time in a while. This place I used to frequent during my student days plays rock music at a high volume, making it not very conducive to conversation. It's more suitable to just listen to the music and get drunk. The first time I went, the song playing had a raspy voice singing words to a rhythm that captivated me. The man who seemed to have requested the song was lost in ecstasy at a corner table. It was Bob Dylan. It was a medley of songs from the live album "BEFORE THE FLOOD" with The Band, "Like a Rolling Stone," and "Blowin' in the Wind." Super major killer tunes. On this day too, I had a highball while listening to Dylan. And I had spaghetti while listening to Tom Waits. It's a dive bar, but the food is good. The interior is covered in graffiti, but it hasn't changed. It's one of the places I hope will be preserved as a Japanese heritage site.

My friend took me to a restaurant filled with memories from our youth! We had to park far away and walk through the bustling streets of Shibuya at night. Finally, we reached the restaurant, a charming building covered in ivy. Inside, the atmosphere was vintage American, with rock ballads playing in the background. The walls were covered in graffiti, adding to the mysterious vibe of the place. We ordered Budweisers and a mix pizza, which tasted nostalgic and delicious. It felt like we had stepped back in time, surrounded by a mix of older gentlemen enjoying beers and young people chatting about music. It was a lovely experience, and I'm grateful to my friend for taking me there.

It was a long-awaited revisit, last Sunday. I arrived almost at the same time as the opening time at 5 pm, with the strong sunlight still lingering like daytime. My companions were all women, a total of four people besides me. Wait, didn't I write in a previous diary entry that "I don't bring female companions to this restaurant"? But at the same time, in the same diary entry, I wrote, "I am confident that women who understand the unique charm of this restaurant will enjoy it." Yes. Among the women I brought to this restaurant for the first time the night before, I was sure that they were women who could "enjoy the restaurant with me." Why? Because the "event" we had just before visiting the restaurant that day proved it. Actually, earlier that day, I was with these three women at the same movie theater in Shibuya, watching the movie "Tenacious D. in the Pick of Destiny" together. For those who know, this is a super silly and outrageous rock opera (?) movie. We had been excitedly talking about wanting to watch it together ever since the trailer was released about a month ago, as we all share a love for "movies ❤" and "Rock ❤." So, we quickly agreed to go watch it together, and after coordinating everyone's schedules, we went to see it together. (And actually, that movie was soooo hilarious!!!) Come to think of it, the same group of us watched "QUEEN Rock Montreal" and shed tears together at Shinjuku Balt 9 the night before. That's right. What I wanted to say is that these women are hardcore "Rock ❤ Lovers" and "Live ❤ Lovers" just like me. And especially, their favorite music is mainly from the 70s and 80s, which is a perfect match. So, I was absolutely certain that they would instantly love this restaurant too. That's why, without hesitation, after the movie, I invited the three women straight to this restaurant. And indeed, my confidence was right on the money. All three of them instantly fell in love with the place. Just like always, we enjoyed the nostalgic and junky German potatoes and pizzas while laughing and talking about the movie we had just seen, and taking turns requesting "oldies Rock" songs that we love. It was delicious and fun. Afterwards, we moved to My Back Pages, a Yoyogi skewer restaurant loved by the same "Rock and Live music enthusiasts" as this restaurant, for a second round. Despite having to work early the next Monday, we ended up getting drunk and having a blast until late at night. Thank you for another great night, B.Y.G. P.S. I have added four new photos. (For previous diary entries, please see the comments section below.)

After a live performance at a certain place in Shibuya, I had dinner with a friend. This seems to be a common pattern. Today's meal included: - Bourbon beauty (800 yen) - Special yakisoba (850 yen) - Nasi goreng (850 yen) - Cheese stick fry (700 yen) - Raisin butter (500 yen) The yakisoba was delicious. By the way, I realized on the train ride home that I had forgotten to use my 10% off coupon from Gurunavi... Aww, I love coupons. (2008/06/03)

In Shibuya's Dogenzaka, there is a legendary rock cafe called B.Y.G, located in the Shibuya Hyakken store. Established in 1969, it is a long-standing establishment that is appreciated by former rock enthusiasts. I used to frequent this place a lot during my high school and college days. Visiting for the first time in a while in January 2008, the area around Shibuya Hyakken store has changed significantly. When passing through the arch of the store, it felt more like a red-light district than a nostalgic dining district. However, upon closer inspection, there are still some old-fashioned shops quietly remaining. It was my first visit to B.Y.G in a long time, so I couldn't remember the details, but the atmosphere remained just like the old days. The food was neither exceptionally delicious nor bad, just average. But it's a great place to enjoy flowing rock music that I became interested in while learning English in junior high school. I indulged in rock music until closing time on the weekend.

I visited B.Y.G, a rock cafe bar, for a fan meeting of a musician on a Saturday night in November. I was a little nervous at first, but the place was charming and lovely. The phone reservation was very good, and all the staff were very friendly. They were so kind even when I got a bit too excited. The all-you-can-drink for 2 hours was only 3500 yen, and the food was so delicious and plentiful. The only downside was that the restroom was old and unisex. However, I would love to use this place again when there is an event in Shibuya. Thank you so much!

For me, Shibuya is Shibuya because of B.Y.G. If this store and the neighboring "Lion" were to disappear, Shibuya would just be a superficial, "Shibuya in appearance only." This store is as revered as the Hachiko statue in front of the station, and is a symbolic presence. The charm of this store is not easily conveyed through reviews on food review websites. You have to actually walk from the station, up the bustling Dogenzaka, past the neon lights of Hyakken-dana, and step into this building that stands like a guardian deity of Shibuya to truly understand. Just like "Donzoko" in Shinjuku or the neighboring "Lion," these stores that are the living embodiments of their respective cities are often not easily appreciated through trendy food review sites. Even if it's run-down and the service is lacking, the atmosphere that surpasses these aspects gives it a perfect score. Everyone I've brought here, myself included, has been overwhelmed by the ambiance of this place. In a city like Shibuya, where the changes of people and things are most intense, this store has been open for almost half a century, experiencing both sickness and health, allowing you to taste the "genuine aging process." The walls are engraved with the names of esteemed musicians, and sometimes even those famous individuals perform here. The overwhelming presence that retains the essence of 1969. A charm that may not be easily understood by those who prefer new, clean, and trendy things. And the authentic music blasting through the speakers. Sometimes, a mistake may lead to a corny pop song playing (my apologies!), but at those times, you can quietly request a song and turn back the flow of time. The music heard in this space is more precious than music playing from the most high-end audio systems. What matters is not the performance, but the atmosphere. I visited this place after watching a Stones concert. Despite not being a fan of alcohol, I felt like having a drink, so I ordered an Amaretto Ginger, Fish and Chips, and Gorgonzola Pizza. It's not particularly outstanding in terms of taste, but in this store, both drinks and food become a means to indulge. Although I often say that I "live to eat," here, reveling in pleasure takes precedence. Thinking that Shibuya equals a trendy and modern city is a big mistake. Without acknowledging the coexistence of the old alongside trends and modernity, you can only enjoy half of what Shibuya has to offer. An absolute anchor in a city like a melting pot of cultures. It's recommended for those who have plans in the evening, as they open from early afternoon on Sundays. I will continue to visit until the day it disappears.
