I happened to come across this bar while looking for a place to drink sake around Shinjuku. Located on the 10th floor of a mixed-use building in Shinjuku Sanchome, this standing sake bar specializes in junmai sake. It was interesting to see that they focus solely on junmai sake. I called ahead around 9 pm and was told that they had availability, so I decided to visit. Although it was past 9 pm, the bar was occupied by young couples and a couple of young men quietly enjoying their sake. The ambiance was nice with dim lighting, perfect for savoring sake. The menu offers individual glasses of sake for only 550 yen each, which is quite affordable. They also have a great deal of all-you-can-drink sake for 2,200 yen per hour. The food menu is mainly focused on sake accompaniments, priced at 550 yen each. It's clear that they want guests to truly enjoy sake, given their reasonable pricing. I started with a tasting set that included three types of sake and cheese. The bartender served each sake based on my preferences, and I started with a Gifu sake called Michisakari Fuyu Nigori. It was surprisingly light and refreshing with a hint of rice sweetness. Next was Hachinohe's Rikyuu Hassenn, a familiar and delicious sake. It had a sweet aroma with a soft rice sweetness and a clean finish. I also tried Kubota's Kouju, a representative of Niigata's sake, which was easy to drink and had a good balance. Then, I had Iwate's Suiemon, a 3-year aged sake with a unique aroma of cedar and grass, which paired well with blue cheese. Following that, I tried Hirosaki's Rokkon, which had a rich flavor with a beautiful finish. Akita's Yukinoyukashou was fruity with a melon and pear aroma, and a clean finish. Mie's Rumiko no Sake was a 6-year aged sake with a smoky and brandy-like nuance that paired well with blue cheese. Lastly, I tried Okayama's Shinjin, made with the legendary sake rice, Omachi. It had a strong rice umami and sweetness, but the finish was a bit heavy. Overall, the experience of trying various regional sakes selected by the bartender was enjoyable and a great value for the price. It's clear that the bar's passion is to introduce delicious sake to as many people as possible. The only downside is that they mainly focus on sake from western Japan, so if you prefer lighter and cleaner finishes, you may find the selection limited.
