A few minutes' walk from JR Meguro Station East Exit is an udon restaurant. The name of the restaurant originates from the owner's childhood home at the foot of the stone steps of Konpira-san (Kotohira-gu) in Kagawa Prefecture, where authentic Sanuki udon can be enjoyed. - Beef Curry Udon 1,190 yen - Cold Konpira Udon 1,080 yen (both prices including tax) The Konpira Udon includes fried tofu, seaweed, and thickly cooked egg as toppings. While the toppings are ordinary, the udon itself has a firm texture and a chewy, mochi-like consistency, providing the perfect eating experience. The dipping sauce is a sweet Kansai-style broth, offering a mild and smooth flavor. The curry udon is the restaurant's signature dish, featuring a sweet soy sauce broth with spicy curry, slowly simmered beef, and onions. The combination of spicy and mellow flavors creates a rich umami taste. The udon noodles absorb the hot curry well, maintaining their firm texture without becoming too soft. In my experience, this is the best curry udon I have ever had in my life. However, it was a bit disappointing that despite there being plenty of empty seats, customers were seated closely together for efficiency. I understand that the restaurant is usually busy, but since it was past 9 PM, I would have preferred a more relaxed seating arrangement.

Visit date: September 24, 2023 (Sunday) Visit time: 10:55 Number of people in line during visit: 6 Opening time: 11:00 Number of people in line at opening: 8 - Order: Tomato Beef Curry Udon - 1,310 yen This udon shop is known for its delicious curry udon. There was a line even before opening, indicating its popularity. The interior has only table seating. The menu is divided into hot udon, cold udon, and beef curry udon categories. I chose the Tomato Beef Curry Udon. Fresh cherry tomatoes are placed on top of the curry udon, and Parmesan cheese is served on the side. The curry is thick and flavorful with a good balance of spices. It's not overly spicy, but you can feel the heat gradually building up as you eat. The udon is more on the standard side. With a variety of other menu options, I would love to try more dishes in the future. It was delicious, thank you for the meal.

I used it for a solo lunch on a regular day. It was around noon, but I only had to wait for about 5 minutes to get a seat. Since I was dining alone, I was seated at a table for 4 with someone else, facing each other. The staff worked together efficiently in serving and cleaning up, so even though it was busy, the turnover was quick. I ordered the curry udon with a soft-boiled egg and cheese topping, along with mentaiko rice. I chose the regular level of spiciness. The udon had medium thick noodles that were soft. The spiciness at the regular level wasn't too hot. Even though I didn't order a large portion, I felt like there was a decent amount of food. The prices are not particularly cheap, but compared to other lunch options in the area, the udon might be more affordable...!

About a 3-minute walk from Meguro Station East Exit, there's a popular udon restaurant that always has a line during lunchtime. Their specialty is curry udon. Even though I accidentally wore white clothes, when you order the curry udon, they give you a paper apron. I ordered the cold version of the curry dipping noodles because I have a sensitive mouth. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I have always wanted to visit Konomiya, a famous udon restaurant in Meguro. Every time I came, there was always a long line and I never had the time to wait. But finally, this time I was able to visit! The curry udon here is well-known, so that was the only choice for me. There were various types and toppings to choose from, but I decided to go with the regular spiciness level, which was already quite spicy according to reviews. I added a soft-boiled egg and corn as toppings to make it a bit milder. I also ordered a side dish of vinegar-marinated eel and cucumber for a refreshing addition to my meal. The eel was plentiful and delicious, and the combination of cucumber, eel, and seaweed in vinegar was perfect. Then, the curry udon arrived. It looked thick and the thick noodles were coated well. The curry had plenty of onions and beef, which was a pleasant surprise. I've had curry udon 4.5 times in the past year, and this was the most delicious one yet. It was past 7 pm when I visited, and there was already one group waiting inside. When I left, there were about five groups waiting, showing how popular this place is. They even provide paper aprons at the beginning, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. If I can avoid the line, I would definitely come back for this amazing curry udon anytime. Delicious meal, thank you!

Kake Udon: 650 yen *Including tax. On a weekday afternoon, I would like to introduce a famous udon shop in Meguro. They are known for their curry udon, but this time I will be introducing their kake udon. I had to go to the bank during my lunch break, and I was running out of time. I couldn't eat the hot curry udon quickly, so I ordered the kake udon instead. But this kake udon is delicious. Most udon shops charge over 1,000 yen, but this one is only 650 yen. It's filling, has a good texture, and the broth is very gentle. It really comforted my tired body and soul. It helped me calm down after getting frustrated at the bank earlier. It was raining heavily due to a typhoon that day, so there was no line, but usually there is a long line, so make sure to go with some extra time. By the way, I ended up soaking wet on my way back to the office.笑

Today is Meguro! Recently, when I try to find a famous udon shop in that area, all I see are curry udon shops popping up haha. The curry udon here is super rich curry! It's so intense that it feels like they're just putting regular curry on it! What I'm trying to say is, it goes really well with rice!

The nearby ramen shop I was looking forward to was closed by a hair, so I ended up having lunch curry udon at this popular shop. The curry soup had a rich flavor, the noodles had a nice chewiness, and the cheese and corn toppings were perfect. However, the best part was the shrimp tempura topping I ordered. The crispy batter was incredibly delicious. Next time, I'll order the tempura udon.

Less than a 5-minute walk from the east exit of Meguro Station is "Konpira Chaya". There is usually a line, so you may have to wait a bit, but it's great that they have continuous service. I love their curry udon so much that I haven't been able to review it yet, but I come back quite often. The owner, Katsuhiko Oto, has been at Meguro Station for 35 years and has even appeared on TV shows. The most popular dish, "Gyu Curry Udon", originated from Oto-san eating curry on top of udon as a staff meal. The udon is not Sanuki udon, but the Japanese-style soup with a slightly junky curry flavor really hits the spot and makes me feel energized. After finishing the udon, you can order rice as a finisher and turn it into a risotto. I'll just close my eyes to any guilty feelings at that point haha. Gyu Curry Udon for 1190 yen. Thank you for the meal! ❤️

Personally, my favorite type of restaurant is one that is open year-round, from 11 am to 11 pm, and serves delicious udon noodles that you can sit down and enjoy. I recently visited this place around 3 pm after missing lunch. Even at this time, about 80% of the seats were taken, with everyone ordering curry udon. Despite the tempting smell of curry, I wanted something lighter, so I opted for the cold Konpira udon. The menu described it as udon with fried tofu, seaweed, and thick grilled egg, but it also came with additional toppings like lightly flavored wheat gluten and fish cake. For cold udon, the dipping sauce and condiments are served separately. The udon noodles were a bit softer than I prefer, but surprisingly, I really enjoyed the dipping sauce. It had a rich, salty flavor with a nice aroma of dashi and soy sauce. Slurping the thick udon noodles dipped in this flavorful sauce was a delightful experience. I also enjoyed the side dishes of grilled egg and fish cake in between bites of udon. Sprinkling some shichimi spice on top added a nice kick. Although the balance of toppings and noodles was a bit challenging at first, this reinterpretation of traditional hot udon as cold dipping udon turned out to be quite delicious.

This curry udon has a unique and flavorful broth that is quite appealing. The noodles have a perfect texture that complements the curry well, which explains its high rating. I also tried the rice and powdered cheese, which were surprisingly good. It would be even better if they had more vegetable options on the menu.

◆Current information as of the visit: Tabelog 3.64, Michelin 2022, 100 Famous Restaurants 2020◆About the restaurant: This udon shop is famous for its beef curry udon and is quite popular. The menu is very extensive, offering options like zaru udon and beef curry tsukemen. Please note that the curry dishes are beef-based, and there is no regular curry udon available. Payment is cash only, and there is not much price difference between the lunch and dinner menus, with lunch being slightly cheaper by around 100 yen, so it is relatively less crowded in the evenings.◆Impressions: I visited on a weekday evening after coming from a yakitori restaurant. The restaurant was only about half full, so we were able to sit down and order right away. The atmosphere inside was clean, and the service was warm and friendly. I ordered the hot beef curry udon without hesitation, and here are my thoughts: The udon noodles were firm, making it a bit of an overkill for curry udon, but still delicious. The curry udon had a hint of sweetness, making it universally appealing and the beef was cooked just right. The curry sauce was thick and coated the noodles well. I ordered it hot, but it wasn't too spicy, and I could eat it without breaking a sweat. The portion size was decent, and I left very satisfied. The prices are a bit on the higher side due to the location in Meguro, but the high level of satisfaction made it worth it. This is a must-visit curry udon shop!◆Items ordered (food only)✔︎✔︎✔︎Beef Curry Udon Hot (Spicy) - 1190 yen◆Remarks:◆Note※The Michelin and 100 Famous Restaurants ratings include information from past points in time.※Prices include tax.⭐️Rating Criteria⭐️3 or below - Satisfied with just one visit⭐️3.5 - Delicious, a decent recommendation⭐️4 - Very delicious, highly recommended (would recommend to friends)⭐️4.5 - Amazing/Will revisit/Highly recommended (confidently recommend to food enthusiasts)⭐️5 - Ultimate satisfaction/Would visit for life/Absolutely recommended (recommend to all)※Ratings are given based on the level of satisfaction considering the price. Since my last visit, this restaurant has become very popular, with long lines always forming. I happened to be nearby this morning when there was no line, so I decided to try it out. It had been a while since I last visited, so I was excited. This time, I chose the Cheese Beef Curry Udon. It had slices of cheese on top, which melted by the time the udon was served, blending into the curry as a hidden flavor. It was really good. The slight mellowness and rich taste were irresistible. The curry roux here is also excellent, and the udon noodles were perfectly chewy. I was trying to cut down on carbs, so I initially thought I'd skip the rice, but the leftover curry roux was too good to waste. I couldn't help but order some rice as well, although I might regret it later. Today, I've decided to run to burn off the extra calories. Overall, both the udon and the curry roux here are deserving of being selected as one of the top 100 restaurants. If you plan to visit, I recommend coming before 11:30 a.m.

I ordered the curry udon with mochi at an udon restaurant a few minutes' walk from Meguro Station because it looked visually appealing and delicious. The thick, creamy curry that coated the udon noodles paired perfectly with the thinly sliced, easily edible mochi, making it very tasty. I would love to go back again.

- Cheese Beef Curry Udon 1310 yen, Spicy Large Size 160 yen I arrived at around 17:20. As I thought, it was still not crowded at this time, and I was seated immediately without any wait. I ordered the Cheese Beef Curry Udon, and it arrived in about 10 minutes. I thought the napkin was a paper apron when I saw the person next to me wearing it. The curry was a thick, normal type with a bonito broth. The udon had plenty of beef slices, which made each bite exciting. The hand-made noodles had a good chewy texture, almost too high-spec for curry udon. It felt like a waste to have these noodles in curry udon. The slightly powdery texture of the noodles was nice, indicating that they were hand-made. The cheese was just a slice on top, and even though it raised the price by 120 yen, it came with corn, which was almost the main ingredient due to the balance of the portions. The large size was quite a lot, mainly in terms of noodles. The broth seemed to be the same amount, but it was never lacking. The cheese and corn were good for adding variety to the taste as the quantity increased. The shichimi spice on the table went well with the curry. The bottle shape made it easy to sprinkle evenly, and when mixed with the curry, it created a delicious combination of chili pepper and curry flavors. The curry had a thick consistency, so it made some noise when eating. Everyone, from young to old, including office workers and beautiful women, ate with slurping sounds, making it easier to enjoy without worrying about the noise. The sign on the table suggested mixing the remaining curry and rice to make a risotto-like dish, but I recommend eating the remaining curry as it is, without mixing with rice, as the udon ingredients may make it too sticky. It would be nice to have a soup base like in soba or tsukemen. Payment is cash only, and PayPay is not accepted.

Visited alone for lunch on a Sunday. Arrived around 11:45 and was able to enter without waiting in line. I had previously tried to visit but there was a line of about 10 groups, so I had to give up. I was lucky this time. I ordered beef curry udon with salmon rice on the side. The rice dishes are a good deal during lunchtime. I enjoyed adding shichimi spice halfway through and mixing in the salmon rice at the end. The service was surprisingly fast, with quick turnover and attentive staff. Thank you for the meal. I will definitely visit again.

The udon restaurant in Meguro is famous for its curry udon. Most customers order the curry udon, and I didn't see many other options being ordered. I tried the seasonal limited eggplant cheese curry udon and also added rice. The dipping sauce here is quite thick, so I recommend putting the leftover dipping sauce on the rice and eating it together! Thank you for the meal.

JR and subway lines, only 2 minutes walk from Meguro Station, visited after about 15 years. During lunchtime, I was looking for a place to eat and found out that they were open all day until night, so I decided to enter after a long time. The Beef Curry Udon for 1190 yen was delicious with plenty of thinly sliced beef, soft onions, and slightly chewy udon noodles all mixed in curry. You can also add extra noodles or rice, and it's recommended to pour the leftover curry sauce into the udon after finishing your meal. The Tempura Udon came with plenty of tempura and seaweed on the side, and the udon broth had a strong soy sauce flavor typical of the Kanto region. It felt like experiencing this taste again after being used to the Kansai style for a long time. Instagram ID: kuidaore.8.

I had dinner in Meguro, which is rare for me. I remembered Kompira Chaya, a place I used to visit in my junior high and high school days, and decided to visit again! I had a salad with fresh wakame from Naruto, which was perfect for sharing between two people or for one person. The cheese beef curry udon had thinly sliced beef and hand-made udon that was chewy. The cheese and corn went well together! I also ordered a small bowl of rice, which was just the right amount. I enjoyed eating the curry udon with the rice, and at the end, I poured the curry udon soup over the rice! It was amazing. The staff cleared the dishes quickly, and as soon as I placed my water glass down, they brought the bill. It felt a bit rushed, but there was a line forming outside, so it was understandable. Overall, it was lucky that we could get in without waiting in line.

A famous restaurant near Meguro Station known for its curry udon. I tried their cold vegetable tempura udon instead of the curry udon that I had before! While it was delicious as curry udon, I personally felt that the udon was too thick when eating it with regular broth. I felt a slight powdery texture and it made me feel a bit tired while eating. However, the portion size is generous and the vegetable tempura is also plentiful for the price (1320 yen), so it may be good for those who want to eat a lot. It's a very reasonable price in front of Meguro Station.
