I heard that a popular restaurant known for serving fresh seafood dishes at a reasonable price in Yaesu-Nihonbashi area opened in Ikebukuro in June (2015), so I made a reservation and went to check it out. The restaurant is called "Uogei Ikebukuro" and it is located on the 2nd floor of a building about a 3-minute walk from JR Ikebukuro Seibu Exit. The interior of the restaurant is very clean and has a sushi restaurant-like atmosphere. They offer a limited-time special on their sour drinks until 7 pm, with a whopping 1000ml serving. The sour drinks come in flavors like grapefruit and lemon, and they are quite large and heavy. The appetizer for the day was steamed clams, which were plump and delicious. We also ordered a seafood sashimi platter, a green salad with 10 types of vegetables, shrimp and clam garlic sauté, sea grapes, grilled yellowtail collar, and eel and yam stick sushi. The dishes were all delicious and the portion sizes were generous. The restaurant got crowded with salarymen around 6 pm, so I recommend making a reservation in advance.

The food is incredibly delicious, and I have never regretted any of my orders, so I find this place very handy. The appetizer was satisfying with large, delicious clams. The chef's choice grilled fish dish with sea bream was very enjoyable. Depending on how busy it is, there may be delays in taking the initial order or in serving the food.

I visited the restaurant on a regular night around 7 pm and the place was spacious, so we could get in right away. We ordered using a smartphone system. The portion size for each dish was generous, so I recommend ordering a few dishes to share if you're in a small group. They had a wide variety of sake options which were very delicious.

I was secretly worried that my favorite fish cutlet restaurant, Fish Jo, would be forced to close down during the peak of the pandemic when they had shortened operating hours (in fact, the Nihonbashi branch, which I had always been fond of, closed down... so disappointing!). But now, I am relieved to see that the bustling atmosphere has returned. The sashimi and other dishes are exceptionally delicious, as expected from a fish market-run establishment, but the tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelette) is also incredibly tasty. And you absolutely cannot miss their shrimp fry! It's plump, large, and the tartar sauce is of exceptional taste. After discovering the deliciousness and cost-effectiveness of their shrimp fry, I can't bring myself to order it from any other izakaya. Whenever I have errands in Ikebukuro, I will definitely go back!

The interior of the restaurant is spacious with a large counter and plenty of seating to relax. The appetizer is shrimp seaweed? The draft beer is Premium Malts. From the daily special menu, the seared fatty tuna belly is a luxurious dish priced surprisingly at 980 yen. Served with a side of pickles, it pairs well with Tokyo sake, Sawanoi. The land highball is a limited-time offer at 420 yen. The fish and chips are a cut above, made with high-quality white fish. The sushi is exceptional, with all the toppings being delicious. This high cost-performance, high-quality restaurant in Ikebukuro is a must-visit.

I heard about this shop on the FM radio and decided to visit. The first floor has a counter and the second floor has table seats. The drinks include "green tea highball, aged shochu, recommended sake" and the food includes "appetizers (simmered whelk, octopus vinegar dish), assorted sashimi, jumbo shrimp fry, sweet potato tempura, appetizer sushi, 5 types of nigiri sushi, apple compote." It was a delicious meal, thank you very much.

I visited on a Sunday night without a reservation and was able to get in easily. I ordered a serious sashimi platter and a few other items like sushi. The sushi was not that great, more like the level you would expect from an izakaya. I was satisfied overall. However, the problem was with the sashimi platter - the fish had a mysterious salty taste as if it had been soaked in saltwater. The slices were also too thick, leaving a unpleasant lingering feeling in the mouth even after leaving the restaurant. The price was cheap so I guess it's understandable, but I wouldn't really recommend it. Also, the sea bream miso soup was too fishy.

This shop was my first visit, but I used to go to this shop when I was assigned to Nagoya. As the copy says, it's a izakaya run by a fishmonger, so they only serve dishes made with fish haha. I had already enjoyed drinks at two other places, so I was already too full to eat more, but I had to order this one thing - the "Serious Sashimi Platter for 999 yen". Isn't that amazing? I don't know any other place in Tokyo where you can eat this at that price haha. I also ordered 2 servings of hot sake. I've lost count of how many times I've ordered it haha. The total cost for 3 people was 6,650 yen, which is still a great value for the quality!

"Uojo" is a chain of fish izakayas that offers a variety of fish-based dishes. It is a popular spot for fish lovers as it is known for its affordable and delicious offerings. Visiting the Ikebukuro branch on a weekend around 6 pm, the restaurant was almost full with customers. I ordered the must-have "Serious Sashimi" (999 yen) and my personal favorite, the "Fishmonger Joe's Scotch Highball" (450 yen). The appetizer (400 yen) was scallops. The sashimi platter included black rockfish, kaiware, sea bass, tuna, red snapper, albacore, scallops, and whitebait, all of which were fresh and tasty. I recommend choosing the Serious Sashimi for its great value. Next, we ordered the also must-have "Tuna Tempura" (680 yen), which was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, offering a delicious contrast of flavors. We then tried the "Two Types of Fish Collar (Simmered or Grilled)" (780 yen), which allowed us to enjoy the best part of the fish. We chose black snapper and red snapper collars, both of which were flavorful and satisfying. The "Extra Large Shrimp Fry" (380 yen per piece) was another favorite, offering a large shrimp at an affordable price. We also ordered another round of Tuna Tempura. Feeling like having a more substantial dish, we tried the "Kamaage Shirasu Pizza" (880 yen), which had a perfect balance of crispy pizza crust, savory shirasu, and cheese. Overall, it was a satisfying visit with a selection of personal favorite dishes from the menu. For first-time visitors, I recommend trying these dishes to experience the best of Uojo's offerings.

The taste and cost performance were both excellent! The service was great and I definitely want to visit again. The sashimi and shirako ponzu were fresh and really delicious. The grilled fish head included two types, amberjack and sea bream, allowing us to enjoy different flavors. The restaurant has a wide range of seating options from counter seats to table seats, making it a great choice for those looking for a good value seafood izakaya in Ikebukuro. Highly recommended!

A sushi izakaya in Ikebukuro. The open atmosphere and clean tables were nice, but the food wasn't very delicious. Even the assorted sashimi platter and the 300 yen medium fatty tuna were bland and tough. The sakura mochi ice cream for dessert might have been the best part. Thank you for the meal.

The lunch at this izakaya in Ikebukuro had a feeling of being priced at a flat rate of 1,000 yen. It seemed a bit expensive compared to other single-price lunch options in the area. Located on the second floor of a mixed building near Ikebukuro East Exit, it was my first time visiting this place. The "grilled fish set meal" (1,000 yen) consisted of Mebaru fish grilled in the Kyoto style. The fish had a unique flavor, similar to a type of mullet, but it was quite delicious with good fat content. The sashimi, although fresh, didn't quite meet my expectations in terms of quality. The two side dishes to choose from also didn't impress me much. The fish head soup was difficult to eat due to the small bones and scales in it. Overall, the portions were small, and I felt that the price was a bit high as mentioned earlier. The time spent dealing with the fish head soup caused me to finish my lunch past 2:30 pm. The staff were already preparing for the evening while people were still eating, which was a bit off-putting. It would have been better if they had approached me about it or simply not allowed customers in so close to closing time. The daily menu was incredibly diverse and all dishes were delicious as they were made with seasonal ingredients! The white fish and firefly squid on the daily menu were especially recommended for this time of year, and they were truly exquisite and fresh. The prices were reasonable and the interior of the restaurant was bright and clean. I would definitely want to visit again!

It's been a while, I was guided to a table for four on the second floor by the elevator, where alcohol disinfection and temperature checks were done. A bot pointed to a tea set on the table and said to help myself to tea. It was a weekday lunch, and they had sashimi set meals and seafood bowls. I was in the mood for a seafood bowl this day. The seafood bowl arrived in about 8 minutes. The pickled vegetables were fresh and had a good amount of saltiness. The spicy cod roe tofu was served without soy sauce, but it was still good. The vegetable salad had a Japanese-style dressing. The seafood bowl had large pieces of sashimi, including tuna, squid, salmon, conger eel, yellowtail, minced tuna with green onions, salmon roe, shrimp, and egg. The ginger was spicy but not too strong. The rice was normal-sized grains and vinegared, but slightly hard. The miso soup was light. The drink bar had iced oolong tea, iced coffee, orange juice, and hot coffee, among others. It was easy to eat and refreshing after the meal. PayPay was accepted as payment. The staff were friendly and had lovely smiles. Thank you for the meal.

Ikebukuro Station East Exit, 2nd floor of a building, a chain izakaya specializing in fish dishes with lunch available on weekdays. It was my third visit and the menu had changed again since my last visit. They greeted me with a lovely smile and escorted me to my seat, offering hojicha tea. There were two large set menus to choose from, one with fried dishes and the other with a daily rotating selection of grilled, fried, or simmered fish. You could choose two out of five side dishes, along with mini sashimi, pickles, rice, and miso soup with free refills. I ordered simmered fish, scallops and seaweed in vinegar, and stewed eggplant, which arrived promptly in 3-4 minutes. The sashimi was a bit soft, the simmered fish was flavorful with a slight firmness, and the scallops and seaweed in vinegar were sweet and fresh. The stewed eggplant was garnished with plenty of bonito flakes and had a subtle flavor. The rice was warm and delicious, and the miso soup was light. The pickled cabbage added a nice touch. I enjoyed iced oolong tea and orange juice from the drink bar. Overall, the fish-centric menu was enjoyable, but it felt a bit lacking in some areas. I used to visit occasionally for the squid salted guts, which is no longer on the menu. Despite the changes, the variety and value of the dishes make it worth a visit. A cup of tea would make the experience even better. Thank you for the meal!

I'm back! Since the state of emergency, this restaurant has only been open for lunch, and I've been eagerly waiting for their night sashimi platter with beer. Finally, they have resumed night service! They even have a great deal now - an appetizer plus 5 dishes for 1,980 yen (per person). And they now offer all-you-can-drink for individual items too! The sashimi was sparkling and the grilled yellowtail collar was delicious as always. The kind manager and friendly floor staff were in good spirits. The restaurant had a decent number of customers too. I hope they continue to do well in the future!

Introduced to this place by a friend. Before I even considered ordering sake, I got carried away and ended up drinking mostly highballs. I drank too much again this time. Haha. I tried the liver and shirako for the first time this season! You can choose between ponzu sauce or tempura, which is nice. I went with the reliable ponzu sauce. It was quite rich and delicious! The appetizer was miso-stewed salmon belly, which was surprisingly tasty. It might change depending on the day, but I lucked out today! I love salmon belly, and the portion was generous, so I was happy! The shrimp fry was recommended by my friend. Yeah, the shrimp wasn't overly stretched out, and the meat was firm all the way to the tip. The sashimi platter was decent. Just delicious. We ordered the simmered rockfish when we least expected it. I was too drunk to even take a picture. Haha. Well, off to the second place! Thank you for the meal~

I have been to this restaurant many times, but this is only my second review. Today, due to the influence of the coronavirus, there were significantly fewer customers. I ordered the usual sashimi assortment and grilled fish, and was surprised to see a rare 4-piece tuna set! It was priced at 1,980 yen. I couldn't resist ordering it... The set included simmered eyeballs, butter-grilled cheek meat, salt-grilled tail, and sashimi of the tuna's forehead. It was my first time trying the forehead sashimi, and it tasted like fatty tuna... The cheek meat was also delicious! It seems to be a limited quantity item, but if you see it, be sure to order it! ✊

I have visited a few times, and the sashimi is particularly delicious. I like sitting at the counter. Watching the chefs prepare the dishes right in front of you is definitely one of the highlights of sitting at the counter. The sashimi platter is also beautifully presented and fresh. I also like the bright and cheerful atmosphere of the restaurant.
