One of the top favorite tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurants in Tokyo. The tonkatsu set meal has a crispy coating that is fragrant and full of the goodness of the fat, making it delicious even on its own. I have never encountered such an amazing coating before! The pork loin meat is rich in sweet fat and strong umami flavor. It is not overly fatty, so you can enjoy it without worrying about feeling heavy. Yet, you can still taste the creamy sweetness of the fat. The frying technique is amazing. Unlike the recent trends of low-temperature frying or rare frying of SPF pork, this place uses the traditional style, resulting in the most delicious tonkatsu! It goes well with the three types of salt and homemade sweet sauce, but it is delicious even without any condiments! The tonjiru (pork miso soup) is full of umami and rich in flavor. The way they use ginger is exquisite! It is filled with plenty of ingredients. The cabbage is crunchy. It's rare to see parsley on top these days, so it's a nice touch! The pickles are well-pickled and authentic. The rice is delicious, and overall, I am very satisfied. It is a wonderful restaurant where you can always be satisfied whenever you visit. Especially the tonkatsu has an amazing coating, and I am impressed by the skill in oil and frying. The atmosphere of the restaurant is pleasantly traditional, making it a comfortable place to be in. If you want to have tonkatsu in Tokyo, I highly recommend this place or "Yoshihira"! Thank you for the meal.

Today, I visited Maruichi, a tonkatsu restaurant located at the east exit of Oimori Station for the first time. I arrived at 12:15 and sat at the counter. There was no waiting time, which was lucky. They mentioned that only photos of the food are allowed. I chose the hirekatsu set meal with a small portion of rice. The coating was crispy, the meat was thick, tender, and delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. September 22, 2023, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo.

Tonkatsu Maruichi is a tonkatsu restaurant located near Oimori Station on the Keihin Tohoku Line. The tonkatsu is thickly cut, giving a satisfying feeling. The miso soup comes with lots of ingredients, making it a great deal. They offer a variety of condiments on the table, including sweet and spicy sauce, soy sauce, two types of salt, mustard, and shichimi. If you order extra rice, it comes in a large bowl, perfect for those with a big appetite. Behold the exquisite tonkatsu at Maruichi! On a certain day in September when Typhoon 13 was approaching, I finally visited Maruichi. I had tried twice before but it was closed both times, so this was my third attempt to visit this must-visit restaurant. I arrived just one minute before the 5:00 pm opening time, and two men were already waiting. The L-shaped counter had 5 seats and there were 3 or 4 small tables in the cozy and clean interior. As it was my first visit, I went for the straightforward tonkatsu set meal for 1,800 yen. Just like other famous nearby restaurants like Maruyama and Tenpukyu, the owner had an imposing presence. While reading Abe Kobo's "The Ark Sakura," I patiently waited for my tonkatsu set meal. When the sound of the oil frying the tonkatsu started to get louder, I knew it was almost time. After about 20 minutes, the golden tonkatsu set meal was finally in front of me. It came with shredded cabbage, parsley, fresh lemon, cucumber and daikon pickles, miso soup, rice, and a choice of 3 sauces – sweet, spicy, and 2 types of salt. I first tried it with the Antarctic salt, enjoying the tender pork, crispy coating, and subtle sweetness of the fat. Next, I tried the sweet sauce, which was Maruichi's original and paired perfectly with the tonkatsu. Lastly, I tried the spicy sauce, which was more of a standard flavor. Personally, I preferred the sweet sauce the most. The miso soup was hearty with plenty of meat, carrots, onions, and burdock root. The cucumber pickle was delicious, perfect for someone who loves pickles like me. I had a fulfilling day enjoying the tonkatsu set meal at Maruichi, and I will definitely be going back!

According to the reviews on Tabelog, this was my second visit to Tonkatsu restaurant this year. I had been neglecting Tonkatsu lately, so I decided to visit the best Tonkatsu restaurant in Japan for lunch on Saturday. Despite the scorching heat, the popular restaurant had a line forming even before opening. I waited in line for 30 minutes and the bottled beer I had afterwards was irresistible. I decided to go for the large loin instead of the limited 350g loin this time. It was still a satisfyingly large portion. Despite the recent Tonkatsu boom leading to an increase in chain Tonkatsu restaurants, Maruichi in Omori has maintained its deliciousness over the years. The quality of the Tonkatsu ingredients, the breadcrumbs, the frying technique, the fresh and delicious rice served in a wooden container, the rich pork soup, the well-marinated pickles, the generous portion of parsley—all of these factors combined make Maruichi the best Tonkatsu restaurant in Japan in my opinion. I enjoyed my meal on this day and I will definitely visit again before the end of the year. Thank you for the delicious meal. Recently, the top Tonkatsu restaurants in the Tokyo metropolitan area are as follows: 1. Maruichi Omori - 5.0 (Unknown) 2. Ikegami Enraku - 4.9 (Hirafu Mitsubuta Pork) 2. Narikura - 4.9 (TOKYO-X) 4. Kamata Maruichi - 4.8 (Hayashi SPF) 5. Marugo - 4.7 (Hirafu Mitsubuta Pork)

・Visited around 6pm on a weekday ・Arrived early so didn't have to wait for a seat ・Ordered the Tonkatsu set meal (1800 yen) this time since I had the pork cutlet last time ・The food arrived in about 20 minutes after ordering ・Although it wasn't as good as the pork cutlet, the tonkatsu had some fat and was delicious for the price ・The miso soup was also excellent and deserves high praise ・As a salt lover, I appreciate having a choice of salt ・Will definitely go back again

Located a 3-minute walk from Omori Station, this tonkatsu restaurant is situated along the railway tracks. They close at 7 pm in the evening. After finding the tonkatsu in the tonkatsu set meal too large last time, I decided to try the small tonkatsu set meal this time. Compared to the regular tonkatsu set meal, the small tonkatsu set meal was about half the size. It was a bit small for me, but for most people, it might be too small. However, the tonkatsu had a lot of red meat and was very delicious!

It's understandable why this place is popular. I arrived around 11:20 and there were about 7 people in line. Truly a famous restaurant. The meat itself was juicy and had a nice firmness, very delicious. However, the top part of the meat was a bit dry, maybe because they get a lot of orders right when they open. The miso soup was a bit salty and had a good amount of meat in it. There was a lot of cabbage which was nice. I had the large pork cutlet set meal, not sure of the brand. When putting sauce on, be careful because it comes out quickly. Alternatively, you can put the sauce in the pickles dish and dip the cutlet in it.

Visited at 11:15 with 4 customers already there. They opened 30 minutes early for us, which was great as the summer waiting time can be tough. I had the tonkatsu set for 1800 yen, and my companion had the small tonkatsu for 1400 yen. We ordered while waiting in line and our food arrived in about 10 minutes. The restaurant was full within 38 minutes, with mostly solo diners. Once again, the food was delicious and we finished everything.

After receiving chiropractic treatment at Konan-dai, my partner and I were discussing where to have dinner on the way back. We decided to go to Kyoto! We hopped on the Wangan Line towards Omori to visit Maruichi. However, it was still before 3 pm, and at this rate, we would arrive before 4 pm. So, we decided to wander around Omori Atore to pass the time. Maruichi opens at 5 pm, and we needed to line up at least 15 minutes before to avoid missing out on the first wave of customers, especially on a scorching day with temperatures over 35°C. Luckily, there was an Italian Tomato Cafe right across from Maruichi. We found a window seat where we could see the line forming at Maruichi while sipping on iced coffee. As expected, we were able to join the line with less than 12 people ahead of us. We made it inside without breaking a sweat! After about 18 minutes of waiting, our tonkatsu and my partner's hirekatsu set arrived. The crispy coating, tender meat, and sweet fat were pure bliss! It was worth all the planning and strategizing. Thank you for the delicious meal!

This is always a popular spot with long lines. In Omori, there are several tonkatsu restaurants that are considered top-notch, and even beyond those, there are many delicious eateries, making it a highly competitive area. The atmosphere here is truly welcoming. I ordered the small tonkatsu set, and while it looked small at first, it turned out to be just the right amount. The cabbage side dish was also delicious. The price could be a bit lower, but I understand that they must be using high-quality ingredients.

After a long time (according to my Tabelog records, it's been 10 years!), I visited Maruichi in Omori. Despite the scorching heat, we were able to enter in about 10 minutes. My colleague ordered the Oofin Katsu set meal, while I ordered the Ootonkatsu set meal with less rice. We placed our orders while waiting in line at the storefront. The food arrived in about 10 minutes after we entered the restaurant. The large pork cutlet was tender, with a sweet fatty taste that was delicious! I enjoyed it with the rock salt and mustard on the table, mixing it with the rice (laughs). The generous serving of cabbage was to my liking with the sweet sauce on the table instead of the spicy one. I exchanged a piece with my colleague and tried the fin katsu, which was light and tender but still packed with the flavor of the meat! Thank you for the meal!

I went to Ota Stadium to watch high school baseball. My friend's son's school won, so we decided to eat tonkatsu to celebrate and connect the experience. We went to this restaurant and only had to wait for about 5 minutes in line at 1 pm. I ordered the pork cutlet with shrimp fry, which was very filling and delicious. The meat quality was great, and I liked that I could customize the taste with various sauces and salt. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

Maruichi 2023/7 Oimori, a long-established tonkatsu restaurant located in Oimori, just a 2-minute walk from JR Oimori Station. The opening hours are 11:30-13:30 and 17:00-19:00, closed on Wednesdays, Sundays, and holidays. The interior of the restaurant has a slightly old-fashioned Japanese style with an L-shaped counter for 5 seats and 2 shared tables for 4 people. On the counter, there are various condiments available such as soy sauce, original spicy sauce, original sweet sauce, wasabi, Hin Giya salt, Nan no Kiwami salt, Andes red salt, chili sauce, habanero, shichimi togarashi, disinfectant alcohol, cups, and a thermos-like cold water pot. The background music is from FM Yokohama. The restaurant is non-smoking with a shared restroom outside. I visited on a weekday at 11:30, and it was already almost full, with about 8 people waiting in line by 11:50. The customers were diverse, and there were 4 staff members, two middle-aged men and women, and two younger women. The main menu items (including tax) are as follows: 【Set Menu】 Small tonkatsu set 1400 yen Tonkatsu set 1800 yen Large tonkatsu set 2300 yen Small hirekatsu set 1600 yen Hirekatsu set 2000 yen Large hirekatsu set 2500 yen Pork loin cutlet set 3700 yen (limited) Shrimp fry set (limited quantity) 3800 yen 【A la carte】 Miso soup 300 yen Oshinko (pickles) 400 yen Large rice 50 yen Extra rice small 100 yen, regular 200 yen Shrimp fry 1250 yen Extra serving combo (for 2 people) 6700 yen (limited quantity) 【Drinks】 Soda 250 yen Bottled beer small 650 yen, large 850 yen Kosui water 850 yen Yamada Nishiki sake 1250 yen There is a note saying "Please help us reduce food waste." I ordered the small tonkatsu set. The pork loin meat was tender with a sweet fat content, slightly rare in terms of frying. The coating was crispy as if freshly fried. It was quite delicious, although the portion was small. It came with a large amount of shredded cabbage, parsley, and a lemon wedge. The pickles included 2 slices of daikon pickles and 2 slices of cucumber pickles, which were average in taste. The miso soup was flavorful with ingredients like carrots, onions, and pork. The rice was of good quality, cooked firm, and the portion was decent. I left the restaurant feeling full and satisfied. Definitely a popular spot with delicious food. I would like to try the small hirekatsu set next time, and the pork loin cutlet set and shrimp fry set also caught my eye.

The long-awaited first visit. I arrived around 1:30 pm on Saturday, and there were still about 6-7 people waiting outside. Luckily, a few groups came out of the restaurant at just the right time, so I only had to wait about 15 minutes before being seated. I decided to go for the limited special pork cutlet set, although the tempting premium pork cutlet caught my eye. The limited pork cutlet came in a generous 350g portion, so I opted for a smaller portion of rice. The dish was served surprisingly quickly, in about 15 minutes. The pork cutlet had a good balance of fatty and lean meat, with a strong sweetness from the fatty parts. The meat was surprisingly chewy and satisfying in volume. There were two original sauces and about four other condiments like salt, soy sauce, and habanero, providing plenty of options for flavor variation. Personally, I preferred the original sweet sauce. The pork cutlet was delicious not only on its own but also when poured over the generous portion of cabbage. The 350g pork cutlet disappeared in no time. The breading and flavor were reminiscent of traditional pork cutlets, which is probably why this place has remained popular over the years. It was indeed as delicious as rumored.

I want to eat delicious pork cutlet on a Saturday afternoon. I asked my partner if we should go to Omori, and they smiled, so it was decided. We arrived early around 5:15 PM to line up, and passed a slow-moving overweight guy on the way. There were already about 8 people lined up, and the staff at the restaurant was taking orders with the menu in hand. We ordered the usual pork cutlet and decided to try the fillet cutlet this time. The guy we passed earlier finally arrived and lined up behind us. I felt a small sense of superiority for passing him earlier as we waited. After about 20 minutes, our food was finally served with mustard on the side. My partner pointed out that they hadn't taken a picture yet, so I took a picture with the mustard. My partner said the fillet cutlet was tender and delicious, and the fatty part of the pork cutlet was also tasty, but the fillet cutlet was really good! It was definitely worth the trip. Thank you for the meal.

I had the tonkatsu set meal for lunch, which cost 1,800 yen. I enjoyed it very much with just salt, hot mustard, and lemon without using sauce. I have also been to Maruwa in Sakuragicho, but in my opinion, Maruwa was better. While Maruichi's meat had a satisfying size and texture, I struggled with the strong saltiness of the miso soup.

I arrived at the restaurant around 11:30 am on a regular day. It was just opening time, so I was nervous, but I was able to get in! Within 10 minutes of entering, the restaurant was full. I ordered the pork fillet cutlet set meal for 2,000 yen. They had two types of sauce, sweet and spicy, with the sweet one being the original Maruichi sauce. There were also 5 types of salt. The set meal included the tonkatsu, cabbage, rice, miso soup, and pickles. It was served in about 15 minutes after ordering. The pork fillet cutlet was quite substantial! I started with the sweet sauce. The breading was crispy and had a good texture. The meat was cooked thoroughly but still tender. The sauce had a hint of acidity within the sweetness, making it tasty and easy to eat. The miso soup had a rich flavor depth, the best I've ever had. The rice was cooked well and tasty, although some parts were a bit mushy. It was so delicious that I want to go back again. Thank you for the meal!

Visited around 11:30 on a weekday in June, no wait to enter the restaurant. Ordered the pork cutlet set meal with small pork cutlet, cabbage, lemon, parsley, rice, miso soup, and pickles. On the table, there were sauces (spicy/sweet), 3 types of salt, and mustard for flavor customization. The meat was light in taste, so it might not be satisfying for those who prefer salty flavors. The cabbage was a bit too moist, which was slightly disappointing. Thank you for the meal!

A famous tonkatsu restaurant in Omori. Visited right at the opening time of 11:30. Ordered: Tonkatsu set meal (1,800 yen) with small rice and less cabbage. The breading was crispy, and the meat was just the right thickness. Perfect balance. The miso soup was rich and flavorful, every detail was perfect. Thank you for the delicious meal!

A tonkatsu restaurant near Oimori Station. It was selected as one of the "Tonkatsu Hyakumeiten 2022" by Tabelog. I had the tonkatsu set meal (1,800 yen). They also have small (1,400 yen) and large (2,300 yen) sizes. A bit on the pricey side for Oimori? The breading was crispy! The meat was on the lighter side but the flavor was rich. They offer three types of salt, two types of sauce, soy sauce, mustard, and other condiments. Money spent: 1,800 yen Rating: 3 points 5 points: Definitely want to visit again!! 4 points: Would like to revisit if given the chance! 3 points: Would consider revisiting. 2 points: Once is enough. 1 point: No need to go.
