Vien Tai @ Tokyo Chofu City (Sengawa) @ Thai Cuisine
This long-standing and beloved restaurant has relocated from Fuchu to Sengawa. It is located just southwest of Seibu Sengawa Station, behind Seiyu. You can enjoy authentic Thai cuisine at this restaurant. This location used to be another Thai restaurant, so if you visit without knowing, you might think it's different. In December 2020, Chop T was relocated to Fuchu (with a new owner), and Vien Tai moved from Fuchu to this location, so they swapped places. It's interesting, isn't it? There is no counter, and they use a combination of 2-person tables. An automatic temperature checker and alcohol spray dispenser are installed outside the entrance, and large sturdy acrylic panels are placed on the tables. The menu is very extensive, with 12 types of salads alone.
Chiang Mai Sausage 990
Shrimp and Garlic Fry 1,100
Basil Stir-Fried Rice with Squid 1,100 (mild spiciness)
Braised Pork Feet Rice 1,100
Lychee Juice 400x2
Today, many items were sold out, so the Tom Yum flavored shrimp fried rice that I initially ordered was also sold out, and I had to switch to pork feet. The Chiang Mai Sausage is a thick, spicy sausage with a strong texture, perhaps spicier than chorizo. To help with this, shredded cabbage and roughly chopped cabbage are served as a side dish, which helps to reduce the spiciness when eaten together. It has a refreshing aftertaste due to the lemongrass. The Shrimp and Garlic Fry has a moderate amount of garlic and comes with 5 shrimp, crispy carrots, and tomatoes, making it delicious and refreshing. However, I wish it had a bit more volume. The Basil Stir-Fried Rice with Squid is said to be quite spicy, so I asked for it to be mild. It looks like a stir-fry from a Chinese restaurant with squid, onions, bamboo shoots, and mushrooms, served with white rice and a fried egg on top. It has a rich soy sauce flavor and is also spicy! This is considered mild, so it would be amazing if it were original. I didn't really like the way the jasmine rice was cooked, so I ended up giving up halfway through. The Braised Pork Feet Rice consists of soft-cut pork feet with pickled mustard greens, Chinese cabbage, and a fried egg on top. It has a strong star anise flavor that goes well with the white rice, but it is quite sour and spicy. Honestly, compared to the Fuchu days, the quality and quantity seem to have declined a bit, which is a bit disappointing. However, the service is friendly, and it's a convenient place to enjoy authentic Thai cuisine. Thanks to the 20% PayPay refund that started in November, dinner was very cost-effective.
