[Tokyo, Chuo-ku] On November 29, 2019 (Friday), there is an izakaya specializing in tebasaki (chicken wings) and Nagoya cuisine in Kyobashi 3-chome. It is a chain with 76 locations in Japan and 9 overseas. The location is just north of Ginza Chuo Street. Exit from exit 3 of Metro Kyobashi Station (Tokyo Square Garden exit), head south towards Ginza on Chuo Street. Proceed diagonally right at the first traffic light (not a right turn), and it will be on the basement floor of the building on your right. It is a 3-minute walk from Metro Kyobashi Station, a 6-minute walk from JR Yurakucho Station, and a 10-minute walk from Tokyo Station. No regular holidays. The seating consists of 8 counter seats, 66 table seats, and 33 sunken kotatsu seats (total of 107 seats). The restaurant is divided into smoking and non-smoking areas, with half of the table seats designated as non-smoking. As someone from Aichi, having Nagoya cuisine in the Ginza area is a delight. Although you can drop in without a reservation, this time we reserved a non-smoking table and visited with 3 people. "Yamachan" is now a common name, but I wondered how crowded it would be, and it was quite lively, with the restaurant bustling with people. Some of the menu items include: [Tebasaki] Maboroshi no Tebasaki (pepper), Kuro Tebasaki (sauce) [Nagoya cuisine] Miso Kushikatsu, Miso Tonkatsu, Dote-ni, Dote-meshi, Ebi Tempura Musubi, Zaru Kishimen Taiwanese ramen toppings, Teppan Napolitan, Ankake Spaghetti [Cold dishes] Neo Yamachan Salad, Aburi Shimesaba, Buta Pon, Tsundere Kamaboko [Hot dishes] Torikawa Age Sansho Soe, Buta Mayo Kimchi, Reba Nira Itame, Natto Omurice Takoyaki-style Gyoza, Teppan Tamasen, Cheese Takkalbi, Taiwanese-style motsu nabe [Ending dishes] Taiwanese Yakisoba, Teppan Napolitan, Teppan Sauce Yakisoba, Nagoya Curry, Hamamume Ochazuke Onigiri ------------------------------------------------ ■ Drinks ◎ Draft Beer (Medium glass ¥539) The brand is Suntory "Premium Malt's" Aromatic Ale. It has a wide range of flavors and consistent deliciousness. Other options include Ginga Kogen Beer, Sapporo Black Label, Asahi Super Dry. Tebasaki is said to go well with beer, so the emphasis on beer selection is commendable. ◎ Calpis Beer (¥495) As the name suggests, a beer cocktail blended with Calpis. When you drink it... you may feel the bitterness of the beer more strongly than usual. Similar to "sprinkling salt on watermelon," the sweetness of Calpis brings out the bitterness of the beer. Surprisingly, you can feel the hop aroma of the beer rather than the Calpis fragrance. ------------------------------------------------ ■ Maboroshi no Tebasaki (5 pieces ¥528) This is the signature dish of Yamachan! Deep-fried chicken wings with plenty of pepper. The presentation may be sloppy, but has it always been like this? The taste is truly spicy, and it pairs perfectly with beer. There may be a knack to eating it, but it's okay to eat it casually without thinking too much. ------------------------------------------------ ■ Hiden no Kuro Tebasaki (3 pieces ¥462) Chicken wings stewed in Worcestershire sauce, a new flavor of tebasaki. Moderately spicy, with the acidity of the sauce. For those who are not fond of the peppery tebasaki, it is worth trying this flavor. ------------------------------------------------ ■ Dote-ni (¥429) A staple of Nagoya cuisine. The two people I was with seemed to really like it, but I feel like it could be served in a more rustic ceramic dish to enhance the atmosphere. ------------------------------------------------ ■ Miso Kushikatsu (3 pieces ¥363) It may look a bit thin, but it's crispy and delicious. You might be able to eat these one after another. ------------------------------------------------ ■ Miso Quail Egg Fry (3 pieces ¥286) A knowledgeable menu item! Even in my hometown (Aichi), I used to eat quail egg fry a lot as a child. Was that a regional thing? (By the way, Aichi Prefecture boasts 70% of the national share of quail egg production) The mild quail egg, rich Haccho miso, and crispy coating are a great combination! ------------------------------------------------ ■ Ankake Spaghetti (¥759) The two people with me this time had never tried ankake spaghetti before, so we ordered it. The thick noodles are stir-fried and coated with a red sauce, similar to Napolitan, but with a noticeable black pepper flavor.
