I stopped by for lunch only. The taste was reliable as expected from a long-established restaurant. However, the atmosphere couldn't compare to local places with plants like potted trees. Also, the staff's service felt more like a typical office worker, and there was a sense of pressure as closing time approached. I hesitated between ordering anmitsu and a sundae, but the anmitsu was actually more delicious.

The Nakamise Street was crowded with inbound tourists and students on a school trip, making it difficult to move forward. On the left side towards Sensoji Temple, there is my favorite shop "Funawa". If you want to buy the sought-after sweet potato yokan, it's best to visit the main store a little off Orange Street, but since I only wanted sweet potato kenpi, I decided to use the No. 1 store on Nakamise Street. I like sesame, and after putting it in my mouth, the sesame flavor lingers, blending nicely with the sweetness of the sweet potato kenpi. If you have the chance, I recommend getting the sesame-flavored one. Thank you for the meal.

[Travel Support] Participated in the "Edo Flavors Journey" tour with my husband, which included sushi from Tsukiji and eel rice from a long-established store. Since it was a weekday, the cost per person was reduced from 9900 yen to 7920 yen with travel support. Additionally, each person received a 2000 yen coupon. The Hato Bus tour departed from Tsukiji and headed to the Skytree. The group had free time on the 350m high observation deck. The weather was nice that day, but Mt. Fuji was slightly hazy. When we arrived around 1:30 PM, the sun was high and bright, making it challenging to take photos. However, the 360-degree view of Tokyo was fascinating and not boring. There was a corner where you could look down through a glass floor, which was quite scary. After the Skytree, we visited Asakusa. We prayed at the Kannon temple and shopped at Nakamise Street. Just like Tsukiji, this area was bustling with many foreign tourists. The storefront of Funawa on Nakamise Street was also crowded. They were selling packs with three anko balls and a piece of sweet potato yokan as the smallest unit, so I left it to my husband, who came back with a combination of strawberry, orange, and matcha flavors. I wished there was at least red bean or white kidney bean in it. Surprisingly, the orange one was delicious too. Yokan is very tasty when eaten occasionally. It's definitely a unique experience from Funawa. Anyway, Asakusa has gradually changed since I last visited. The first shock was seeing Umekindo, the bean shop right after the Kaminarimon gate, turned into a trendy cosmetics store. I can't believe I can't have those hard-to-eat but delicious salted beans anymore. The Senbei shop Hinode at the corner of Rokku and Shin-Nakamise has become a famous Gâteau Chocolat store. And the former movie theater in Rokku has been under construction for a long time, but it seems that the View Hotel Rokku will open next month. Some people manage to succeed and make a profit, but without those who continue the traditional Asakusa, the town's charm will disappear. It's challenging to find the right balance. The daily tours, excluding Wednesdays, will be held until March 17 this year. There were quite a few solo travelers on the tour. "Fune Wa Nakamise 1st Store" Asakusa I received a set of the famous sweet potato yokan and anko balls from the long-established Japanese confectionery shop "Fune Wa" in Asakusa. Located in a tourist area, this shop is a popular choice for souvenirs. I felt like having sweet potato yokan for the first time in a while, so I decided to buy it. The anko balls were a first for me! The sweet potato yokan is made only with satsuma sweet potatoes, sugar, and salt, allowing you to fully enjoy the natural sweetness and flavor of the sweet potatoes. The anko balls, wrapped in agar with different colored fillings, were not only cute in appearance but also had a good texture and delicious taste. Each piece was satisfying and filling, and although you can't eat a lot at once because they are fresh sweets, sometimes you just crave that simple taste. - Order: Assorted set (3 sweet potato yokan, 6 anko balls in 6 colors) - Store Name: Fune Wa Nakamise 1st Store - Access: 3-minute walk from Asakusa Station - Business Hours: Weekdays 10:00-18:00, Weekends 10:00-19:00 - Budget: ¥1,000 to ¥2,000 per person - Instagram: @funawa_1001"

I purchased from the 1st store this time. Each store has different items available for purchase, so you can enjoy each one. I went in the fall, so I bought a baked sweet potato pie made with seasonal ingredients. It was just the right amount of sweetness and delicious. Asakusa Nakamise has a variety of food stalls, so this is the most delicious one. I would like to buy it again when I go there next time. You can also buy it as a souvenir, so I think this is a great souvenir to bring back.

When it comes to Asakusa, you have to try something from Funawa, and this time I wanted to try the sweet potato butter dorayaki that I had looked up in advance! When you purchase it from the ticket machine, you immediately receive the product from the pick-up window. The combination of the simple sweetness and smoothness of Funawa's sweet potato yokan, along with the richness of the butter, was excellent and very delicious. It was quite filling as well. Thank you for the meal.

I forgot the official name, but it was a sweet with red bean paste sandwiched between dorayaki skin. I bought the lemon cheese flavor. Other than lemon cheese, it seems like takeout is available. The Crimia soft serve also looked delicious.

I used to be impressed with the 500 yen soft serve ice cream I often ate a long time ago. But recently, I feel like the taste of soft serve ice cream has changed. After trying different places, I came here for the final critique. It seems that it doesn't suit my taste anymore. Furthermore, this time the cone had a berry flavor, which I didn't ask for. I prefer the regular cone. I think I will switch to exploring different soft serve options.

Recommended by a gourmet expert, I received a sweet potato yokan as a souvenir. I have visited Asakusa many times, but because it is close to my hometown, I never really thought about trying it, and now I regret it. The sweetness, richness... it is so delicious. It's more like a sweet potato dessert than yokan. It may be a bit rich for those who don't like sweet things or find sweet potatoes heavy. I am also not a fan of Japanese sweets or sweet things, but when warmed up, it becomes smooth and delicious like a Western sweet potato dessert, with a lingering taste of the sweet potato's richness and sweetness that makes you want to keep eating. It says it's best to warm it up in the oven to bring out the aroma, but 30-40 seconds in a 500W microwave is perfect. It's fluffy, smooth, and moist. Before I knew it, I had eaten a lot and only had one left when I took a photo. I will definitely go buy more.

I had some business in Asakusa, and since the weather was warm, I felt like having some ice cream. I found a sweet potato yokan soft serve and decided to try it. I couldn't eat while walking, so I enjoyed it at the counter next to the shop. It had a rich flavor like cheesecake and a nice sweet potato aroma that lingered in my nose. It was lightly sweet and easy to eat in one go.

Here is a classic souvenir shop in Tokyo, called Funawa. I always rely on them for souvenirs. Their main store is in Asakusa, and they have several branches along Nakamise Street. The deliciousness of their classic sweet potato yokan is well-known, but this time I tried their sweet potato yokan soft serve for 350 yen. The cute staff told me not to eat while walking and to enjoy it in the designated area. The soft serve had a strong sweet potato flavor that became more prominent as it melted in my mouth and warmed up to room temperature. It's a taste I love. It came with thin slices of sweet potato yokan and sweet potato snacks as toppings, which provided a refreshing touch and added some extra flavor. It was even more delicious than I expected. The portion was so generous that it would be just right for two people to share. They also sell baked sweet potato yokan, but I always thought sweet potato yokan should be eaten raw. However, it turns out it's also good chilled. They were sold out shortly after opening, but I heard they also have sweet potato dumplings, so I'll have to try those next time. Thank you for the meal.

If you go to Asakusa, you must buy 2 pieces of sweet potato yokan (240 yen). The sweetness of the sweet potato is just right, not too sweet for my taste. I bought 2 pieces, one to eat as is and the other to bake. However, the expiration date is until the next day, so it's short. Oh! The staff told me that you can freeze it and eat it as ice cream.

Yesterday, I tried going to Funawa in Asakusa. Yay! I bought sweet potato yokan and sweet potato pie. The store was really new and they even sold stationery. Wow! I was surprised! It's been a while since I had this sweet potato yokan, and it was so delicious! The paper bag was cute too. The sweet potato pie was crispy and tasty. It was fun! Ah, I loved it! ❤️

In Asakusa, there are several shops of Funawa that offer soft serve ice cream. The flavor is true to Funawa's sweet potato yokan. It is topped with real sweet potato yokan, providing a balanced sweetness and a delightful aroma of sweet potato. Highly recommended.

Family of four on a trip to Tokyo. lured by the delicious-looking display in Asakusa and made a purchase. Before moving on to the sweets review, it should be noted that the shop is located next to the Nakamise 3rd store where you can try the sweet potato yokan. The anko balls come in six flavors: "red bean, white kidney bean, matcha, strawberry, orange, coffee." This time, white kidney bean and coffee were purchased. Sweet Potato Yokan - 130 yen A sweet potato yokan measuring about 15mm square and 60mm long. It has a light and fluffy texture with a gentle sweetness of sweet potato, but personally, I prefer the baked version with a buttery richness. It can be enjoyed until the next day. Anko Ball - 87 yen each A ball with a diameter of about 20mm, wrapped in agar jelly, similar in size to a piece of ice. It can be enjoyed until the next day. White Kidney Bean - Smooth and lightly sweet white bean paste. Coffee - A combination of the white bean paste and coffee flavor. It is easy to eat with less bitterness than expected. Recommended for red bean lovers. It can be enjoyed until the next day. Golden Sweet Potato Coins - 388 yen A pack of about 35 thin slices of sweet potato chips with a diameter of about 30mm and a thickness of 1mm. They are thin, crispy, and light due to being non-fried. The gentle sweetness of sweet potato is directly experienced. It's like a sophisticated version of sweet potato snacks. It can be enjoyed for about two months.

Sweet potato yokan made only from sweet potatoes, sugar, and salt. The expiration date is until the day after the purchase date. I bought a box of 5 sweet potato yokan for 648 yen as a souvenir. It was tightly packed and surprisingly heavy for its size. The sweet potato yokan was cut into rectangular pieces and placed directly in a paper box. As soon as I opened the box, there they were, the sweet potato yokan. The simple packaging was appreciated. The cross-section was beautiful, with a golden color and a substantial weight when held. It tasted like sweet potatoes, but different from baked sweet potatoes. The sweetness was similar to raw sweet potatoes. The moist and fluffy texture made it necessary to have a drink on hand. Eating one piece could satisfy your hunger to some extent. I tried eating it at room temperature and refrigerated, but I still craved for some water (laughs). Maybe frozen sweet potato yokan would be better for the upcoming hot season? I will try eating it frozen next time.

Established for over 100 years, the traditional Japanese confectionery shop Asakusa specializes in sweet potato yokan, which is made by skillfully kneading the natural aroma and sweetness of sweet potatoes to create a moist and delicious treat. This classic flavor, enjoyed since childhood, is a must-try. Another recommended item is the Hisago Mochi, which is also delicious. I visited their new store called "FUNAWA," where they offer sweet potato pie and soft serve ice cream. One popular item is the baked sweet potato pie, priced at 120 yen each. The buttery pie filled with simple sweet potato paste is a delightful treat that pairs well with tea or coffee. They also offer packaged options, making it a great choice for gifts. Overall, this long-standing confectionery shop offers delicious traditional sweets.

One of the popular Asakusa specialties is the sweet potato yokan from Funawa. There are three shops facing each other on Nakamise Street, so you can buy from any of them. This yokan allows you to enjoy the taste of sweet potato itself. Although it is called yokan, it is different from red bean paste yokan. It has a smooth taste like sweet potato. It is easy to eat and enjoyable. I also bought the two-color kin-tsuba with sweet potato and chestnut flavors, which caught my interest. The red bean grains are firm, and you can clearly taste the sweetness of the chestnut with a thin, translucent skin. It looks delicious just by looking at it. I was also curious about the anko-dama, so I bought one. Anko-dama comes in six flavors: red bean, white kidney bean, matcha, strawberry, orange, and coffee. I chose the coffee flavor. The smoothness around it is like crumbs, and it has a taste of both anko and coffee. It's fun to try different flavors and the variety of colors is enjoyable.

Tokyo to Yokohama family trip, third stop on our food tour in Asakusa was the famous shop called Funawa for their sweet potato yokan. This was definitely made from sweet potatoes! Since it was a food tour, we tried the plain version, and it had a natural sweetness from the elegant sweet potatoes. It was more about the subtle flavor rather than a strong impact. I think it would be nice to try it warmed up or baked with some butter.
