I stopped by Asakusa for a New Year's Eve shopping trip. It was cold despite wearing warm clothing, winter in Asakusa is chilly. When it's cold like this, you start craving something warm, like soup. That's when I stumbled upon the Ieyasu Asakusa store. The name is nice too. I thought, what will Ieyasu do next year, maybe udon, and decided to try it out.
[Atmosphere]
At the entrance of the store, they were making noodles. When you place an order, they cut a portion of noodles and cook it right there, so it felt different from stores that pre-make noodles. You can feel the store's dedication to noodles. There are three two-person tables near the entrance, with three or four chairs each, so it's convenient for two people with luggage. In the back, there were two tables with six chairs. I sat at the table closest to the entrance. There was a family of four in the back. Later, a family of five arrived, but they were guided to the second floor, so it seems there are seats upstairs as well. The two male staff members were friendly and provided service with ease since there were empty seats.
[Menu]
Ieyasu Udon 1,320 yen (tax included). It took about 10 minutes for the udon to arrive since it's made to order. Since it was New Year's Eve, it wasn't too crowded, maybe because soba is more popular around this time. So, it might have been made to order due to stock availability. Making it from scratch was refreshing and the handmade texture of the noodles was nice, not as smooth as instant noodles. The broth had a unique taste with chicken, pork, beef, green onions, wakame, and a meaty flavor, recommended for those who like meat udon. It also had tempura bits, and there were menu items like "Chikara Udon," so I was expecting a sweet broth like in Kansai-style udon, but it wasn't like that at all. As someone from Osaka, I would describe it as a unique udon that is like a Tokyo-style udon with a Kansai-style flavor, not as intense as Tokyo soba broth.
[Summary]
The cost-performance ratio is not great, but in this cold weather, a quick stop at this store on the main street is very convenient. It has a slightly touristy atmosphere, but I didn't think the taste would disappoint, so I felt like it's a good place to go to when in need.
