There is a tempura restaurant called "Tempura Koshichi" that I was curious about, located a short walk from Wakamatsu-Kawada Machi Station. I decided to try it out because they offer a daily tempura set meal for 1000 yen. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very charming. I arrived 15 minutes before opening and was the first in line. A couple of other customers arrived shortly after, but the staff kindly opened the doors 3 minutes early saying, "It's hot today, please come in." I ordered the daily special set meal that I was curious about. The tempura set consisted of 6 types of tempura, including shrimp, kisu fish, squid, cucumber, daikon radish, and potato. Additionally, the daily special set included 3 types of sashimi, which were tuna, scallop, and spicy cod roe. The tempura was served 10 minutes after ordering, and everything looked delicious. I started with the unique cucumber tempura, which was surprisingly tasty. The tempura batter was crispy on the outside, while the inside was warm and flavorful, showcasing the sweetness of the cucumber. Next, I tried the daikon radish tempura, which was also crispy on the outside and warm and tender on the inside. Both were lightly seasoned, allowing the natural flavors to shine through. The sashimi was fresh and delicious, and I was particularly impressed by the yellow condiment in the center of the set meal plate called "okaka." It was a standout dish with a rich umami flavor. Finally, I tried the main tempura items - shrimp, squid, and kisu fish. The shrimp was crunchy and succulent, the squid was tender and sweet, and the kisu fish had a crispy exterior and a fluffy interior. Each tempura piece was perfectly fried and seasoned, delivering exceptional taste. The highlight of the meal was the original okaka, which the chef explained was made from leftover bonito flakes used to make dashi for miso soup. The chef added other ingredients to create a unique and flavorful okaka, which was truly outstanding. I learned that the okaka is also available for purchase, and I made a mental note to buy some on my next visit. Overall, the quality of the tempura was exceptional, and I look forward to returning to enjoy tempura and sake in the evening, while also bringing home some okaka as a souvenir. It was a delightful dining experience!

Regular check-up day. Today, the appointment was at a different time than usual, so I decided to have lunch near the hospital. When I arrived at the restaurant, it was just before 12:30 and it was full. There was only one group waiting in line, so we were able to enter without waiting too long. I love tempura, but just having tempura alone feels a bit lonely. After looking at the menu, reviews, and what others were eating, I secretly decided to order the daily special set with an additional oyster tempura and half portion of rice. The daily special set came with tempura and sashimi, along with rice, miso soup, and pickles. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was cozy, just like grandma's house. For those who like tatami seating, it's a great place to relax. The tempura included whiting, shrimp, squid, radish, and cucumber. The deluxe set also had scallops and snow crab, which looked tempting too. But I couldn't resist adding the oyster tempura. The tempura was crispy and not greasy, even until the end. The cucumber tempura was interesting, like fried melon. It was soft with a juicy texture. It was delicious even without any dipping sauce. The radish tempura was tender and flavorful. I remember the fried radish trend, but I prefer tempura over fried. The whiting, squid, and shrimp were all excellent. Getting freshly fried tempura at this price is a treat. The homemade bonito flakes sprinkle magically transforms someone who doesn't usually eat much rice into a rice-loving person. The sesame and bonito flakes sprinkle with dashi was delicious. But with pickles included, finishing the sprinkle means you need a substantial amount of rice. There was also sashimi available. Adding the oyster tempura was a great choice. It was plump and creamy. Despite feeling full, it didn't leave me feeling heavy. It was truly delicious.

Near Waseda Station, there is a tempura restaurant known for its quality. During lunchtime, it was already fully booked when I visited. I ordered the daily special set meal for 1000 yen. It included five pieces of tempura, three types of sashimi, miso soup, pickles, and rice. The portion was huge and the tempura was light and crispy. With the salt and sauce for dipping, the rice went down easily. The quality of the meal for only 1000 yen was amazing. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Lunch on 09/07 (Thu) ... Tempura Takashichi ... Daily special for 1,000 yen ... Cash payment ... Good service speed, delicious taste, good tea, good portion size, great value for money, friendly service ... Just 1,000 yen for a set meal with 8 plates of freshly fried tempura, it's awesome. They also serve sashimi and sprinkle on top. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice, so it's a good place even for foreigners.

I visited this restaurant for lunch on a Saturday. Despite being a well-known establishment, it didn't feel intimidating for newcomers. When it opened, local residents seemed to gather quickly and the place filled up in no time. I ordered the daily special set meal, which was delicious. The tempura was light and crispy, the sashimi was thick and fresh, and the wasabi had just the right amount of kick. Although the portion may seem modest at first, it was quite satisfying. I noticed they had snow crab in a pot in the showcase, which piqued my interest. It seems like another popular item on the menu. I would love to try it next time.

Just before noon, I entered the restaurant without any wait. Soon after, customers started coming in one after another and the place was quickly full. I looked at the menu for a while, but since all the regulars were ordering the daily special, I decided to do the same. The crispy tempura included green peppers, eggplant, daikon radish, shrimp, smelt fish, and squid, which was more than enough. In addition, there was sashimi, miso soup, dried bonito flakes, and pickles, all for only 1000 yen, which was amazing. The tempura was first served without any dipping sauce, but the ingredients were so flavorful that it wasn't necessary. I later tried a bit of salt, which was satisfying enough. The plump shrimp and squid were delicious, but the unusual daikon radish was a new and delightful experience - hot and juicy yet crispy. The side of dried bonito flakes was also surprisingly tasty! It's no wonder there are many regulars here. I left completely satisfied. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I followed komug710 and saw a post about this place during the day, which got me curious, so I decided to visit that night. It was quite close by, and I was in the mood for tempura! Originally, I wanted to have tempura rice bowl, but since it was nighttime, I wanted to have it with some drinks! This restaurant has been around since the Meiji era, with the current owner being the 5th generation. They specialize in tempura, which is quite impressive! It's located on Natsume-zaka street (named after Natsume Soseki's father, apparently). The portion sizes here are no joke! I ordered the shrimp tempura set, which came with a whopping 6 shrimp! It also included small shrimp, vegetable tempura, cucumber, and daikon. We ordered separately, but the table was filled to the brim, and we couldn't tell where our portions ended! The shrimp were cleaned beautifully, and even eating the heads was a breeze. The angel shrimp and banana shrimp were delicious. All of this for just over 2000 yen was a steal! My friend ordered the Omakase for 3500 yen, which was also a generous portion with excellent quality. Since we visited early, the oil seemed fresh, and the tempura was delicious. The hostess was warm and welcoming, making it a great dining experience!

I visited the tempura restaurant "Tempura Takanana" on Natsumezaka Street. It is a historical building that suddenly appears after a short walk from the station. Despite it being a weekday lunchtime, the restaurant was full. I was seated in a raised tatami area and had to wait. [Interior] The interior has a Japanese atmosphere, with a bright and spacious layout. There are a few seats at the counter and a few tables in the tatami area. The customers ranged from families to elderly people and young couples. [Food] I had the "Joten Don" for 1800 yen. It included lion chili pepper, sandfish, snow crab, conger eel, oysters, angel shrimp, freshly peeled shrimp, squid, pumpkin, and eggplant - a total of 10 items. You can add your preferred amount of dipping sauce to finish. The side dish of the day was squid with vinegar miso sauce, which was delicious. The staff provided detailed explanations of the dishes in a cute voice, reminiscent of Mirai from the first Gundam series. This family-run restaurant offers warm and friendly service. I hope they continue to thrive for a long time. Thank you for the meal.

Visited this famous tempura restaurant during my day off. Located a 7-minute walk from Waseda Station, along Natsume-zaka Street, this century-old establishment is beloved by generations of Waseda University students and business people. Winner of the '22-'23 Tempura Top 100 award. Despite being turned away several times due to temporary closures, I finally arrived early one Tuesday to find the shop open. I was the first customer and managed to order the oyster tempura and daily set meal with less rice. The kitchen, with its low counter, allowed me to see the chef's skilled hands at work. Before I knew it, the place was filled with foreign tourists and business people, all ordering the daily set meal. The food arrived in less than 10 minutes. The oyster tempura was juicy and perfectly cooked, with a crispy batter and a refreshing touch of lemon. The daily set meal included tempura of shrimp, squid, smelt, eggplant, pumpkin, and green peppers, along with rice, miso soup, side dishes, and pickles. Everything was delicious, and the value for money was exceptional. I can see why this place is loved by people of all ages. I look forward to coming back with my family next time. Thank you for the wonderful meal. I will definitely visit again.

I got off at Wakamatsu-Kawata Station for the first time to visit Ten-shichi, a shop that blends into the scenery halfway up the hill. I sat at the counter seat with a tank of sawagani crabs from Miyazaki Prefecture. The lunch menu starts at 900 yen, but I splurged a bit and ordered the 2,000 yen anago tempura rice bowl. The daily special set of another customer seemed like a great deal. As for my anago tempura rice bowl, it had overflowing anago, vegetable tempura with shishito peppers, red bell peppers, and onions. On the side, there were salt for the anago bones, miso soup, and pickles. It was delicious and a good value for the price.

The shop has a traditional atmosphere with a good old-fashioned storefront. I arrived right at 11:30 and there were already quite a few people there. I ordered the daily set meal and oyster tempura for 1500 yen including tax. The set meal included squid, shrimp, and fatty tuna which were all very delicious. The tempura consisted of parsley, green beans, white eggplant, squid, shrimp, and smelt. The tempura had a fluffy texture overall, not greasy at all. It was delicious with a light and fluffy coating, keeping the ingredients moist and tender inside. I usually like crispy tempura, but I also enjoyed this style. Probably because it's the daily special, the sashimi and tempura contents may vary depending on the season. The oysters were also delicious! I'm very happy to have a tempura restaurant like this nearby, and I would definitely like to come back again.

This is a small, cozy, and friendly neighborhood restaurant run by a family. Their tempura is always delicious no matter what you order, and if you leave it up to them, they will serve you generously with seasonal ingredients. The wife and mother are very kind and attentive, making you feel right at home.

I used to live near this restaurant for about 16 years, so I have become good friends with the owner, the previous landlady, the current landlady, and their daughter. Whenever I come back to Japan for health check-ups during my temporary return from overseas, I always visit the International Medical Research Center Hospital and make sure to stop by this restaurant on my way back. This time was no exception, as I visited two days after returning to Japan. I ordered my favorite tempura rice bowl and also added a sashimi platter to my daily special set meal. Eating the tempura rice bowl here always makes me feel like I'm back in Japan, enjoying delicious rice, flavorful miso soup with seaweed, and seasonal tempura. The broth for the tempura is well-prepared, which is why this restaurant has been able to thrive for so long. While there are more expensive and exquisite tempura restaurants out there, this place is perfect for when you want a tasty tempura bowl after a hospital visit or just want the owner to fry something special for you. They treat their regular customers well and are also very welcoming to new customers. I look forward to seeing what new initiatives the daughter will bring to the restaurant. Thank you for the delicious meal. I will definitely be back!

I ordered the Tempura Jojo Set meal for 1,800 yen at a tempura restaurant I was curious about. A confident and efficient woman took my order. I remember the tempura toppings were as follows... The oyster was incredibly delicious! The tempura of daikon radish and cucumber was fresh and new to me. I am also interested in trying their tempura bowl. It includes swimming crab, scallops, sweetfish, angel prawn, freshly molted shrimp, cucumber, daikon radish, princess mushroom, oyster, seaweed roll, and squid.

I ordered the lunch special set meal (1,800 yen including tax). They bring it to you freshly fried in two separate servings. The daikon radish and tempura shrimp were delicious! The most popular item is the daily tempura set lunch. It's a place that is easy to enter for a wide range of customers, from students to regular elderly customers, and the friendly owner explains the dishes as she brings them to you.

I visited the tempura restaurant "Tempura Koshichi," which is ranked 29th out of 100 in the Tempura Hyakumeiten in 2023. The restaurant is located in the back streets of Kagurazaka, making it convenient for those traveling by car. The exterior of the restaurant exudes a sense of tradition as it is a long-established store along the street. The interior mainly consists of tatami seating, giving it a cozy atmosphere. Established in 1884, this restaurant is currently run by the 5th generation, embodying a rich history and tradition. It is also recognized as a top restaurant in the Tempura Hyakumeiten. During my first visit for lunch, I tried the mixed tempura rice bowl, tempura set meal, miso soup, pickles, and tomato. The dishes were beautifully presented and tasted delicious, providing a sense of comfort and stability. The family-run business exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere. Overall, Tempura Koshichi offers classic and delicious tempura dishes, making it a great dining option.

I had some business at the hospital and was looking for a good restaurant on Tabelog, and found a nearby restaurant with a high rating! I arrived about 3 minutes before opening. Customers started coming in one after another, and it quickly became full. I ordered the daily special. It came with sashimi for only 1000 yen, which was very reasonable. The tempura was crispy and fluffy, and I was very satisfied!

I had some business at a nearby hospital and decided to slip into this restaurant during lunchtime. The place was almost full and bustling with customers. Among them, there was a group of students who seemed to be from China, maybe Waseda University students. The hostess was trying her best to explain in English, mentioning different names for squid and shrimp depending on the type. Even though our native languages were not English, there were some communication gaps, but the warmth was still conveyed, which was nice. I opted for the 1000 yen daily special set meal, which included tempura and sashimi, a great deal. The freshly fried tempura was delicious, so next time I'll go for the tempura set. Keep up the good work!

Today's company lunch was decided to be tempura at a place we don't usually go to - Tempura Takashichi. I didn't realize there were so many tempura restaurants within walking distance. The daily tempura set meal is only ¥1,000 (tax included), which is a great deal. I didn't have high expectations for the price, but the tempura was surprisingly crispy and delicious. Eating it with salt was the best way to enjoy it. I think this tempura is on a whole different level. I would like to try their tempura rice bowl next time. This is a wonderful restaurant that I look forward to visiting regularly. There seems to be a line during lunchtime, so I'll make sure to come early next time!

I went during the daytime on a regular day. I was able to get in easily. I ordered a beer and the daily tempura set meal. The landlady was very friendly. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also good. The price was cheap at 1000 yen, but I was a little disappointed because I was expecting the tempura to be more crispy. However, I would like to try their tempura bowl next time and make a judgment again, as I think the friendliness of the landlady and the atmosphere of the restaurant are good.
