Chukasoba Tamagawa @ Fuchu City, Tokyo @ Ramen
I love this ramen shop and the owner's personality, so I visit quite frequently. This review is from my visit in the afternoon on January 2, 2023, which is 4 months since my last visit. I also visited on February 25, 2023, but this time, it has been 2 and a half months since my last visit. Located next to the Suntory beer factory along the Chuo Expressway, in the Odawara Tokyo Comprehensive Wholesale Center, this shop not only serves amazing Chukasoba but also has a charming owner, Mr. Ota. On the last day of Golden Week, when most other shops were closed, only three shops were open in the quiet Odawara Tokyo Comprehensive Wholesale Center, and this was one of them. This wholesale center has a large parking lot with 800 spaces, making it convenient. It is located in the middle of the first aisle where restaurants are lined up. The shop has only 6 seats surrounding the kitchen. There is also a shared dining space in the aisle. The counter seats are separated by transparent acrylic boards. Depending on the time, you can also eat on the opposite side of the aisle in the shared dining area. The menu includes Chukasoba for 740 yen, Hachioji Ramen for 740 yen, Fish Broth Morning Ramen for 500 yen, and mixed noodles. Toppings include flavored eggs and bamboo shoots. There is also a Negi-Charge Don and rice. The fish broth morning ramen for 500 yen, suitable for mornings, is a light ramen. Orders are placed through a ticket machine. The friendly and pleasant owner, Mr. Ota, runs the shop alone. Despite having no prior experience in running a ramen shop before opening this one, Mr. Ota's skills are excellent, and he always comes up with innovative ideas, resulting in very delicious ramen. The noodles are made by Mikawa-ya Seimen in Higashi-Kurume, with straight thin noodles for Hachioji Ramen and curly medium noodles for Chukasoba. My preference is for the medium noodles, but the refreshing taste of Hachioji Ramen is also addictive. The tonkotsu, seafood, and kombu dashi with soy sauce soup are heated in a pot for each bowl, and the two types of low-temperature cooked chashu are sliced with a slicer for each serving, showing the meticulous cooking. Today, the two of us had the limited edition Ebi (shrimp) Ramen for Golden Week (which will continue until mid-June). - Ebi Shio Ramen 840 yen - Ebi Miso Ramen 900 yen The bowls come with green onions, bamboo shoots, kaiware, chashu, and seaweed, topped with plenty of dried small shrimp. The Shio Ramen uses the usual thin noodles, while the Miso Ramen uses medium curly noodles. The soup contains a shrimp extract similar to American sauce, spreading a rich shrimp flavor in the mouth, making it a delicious ramen. Personally, I felt that the Miso Ramen had a better overall balance. Since it is within the market, the shop's operating hours are until 2:00 pm (sometimes 3:00 pm depending on the day), but it is a shop that I still want to visit frequently. Highly recommended. ★★★★★ Parking available. Free parking for 800 cars at the wholesale center.
