Just opened near Ueno station, on Showa Street, is the hot pot restaurant "Nabemaru." As you step inside, you'll notice a rotating rail on the tables, carrying various plates of ingredients. The rotating platform is imported from the home country. The prices are straightforward: skewers are all 100 yen, appetizers are all 300 yen, and you can choose from 12 different soups like herbal, spicy, tomato, curry, seafood, pickled vegetables, mushroom, soy milk, sour and spicy, Sichuan pepper, kimchi, and pork bone for 380 yen each. I chose the healthy option of soy milk soup this time. You can order lamb and beef for 680 yen each. They also offer radish cakes, dumplings, spring rolls, and xiaolongbao, so you won't get bored. There's a counter with over 10 sauces like sesame, ponzu, spicy, and chicken oil to create your own original sauce. Each person has their own IH heater at the counter table, where you can cook your ingredients in the mild soy milk soup, adding vegetables, mushrooms, and meatballs. It's exciting to see the ingredients spinning around the restaurant, sparking conversations with friends. The variety of ingredients keeps things interesting, and you can focus on your favorites. The self-service rotating system allows you to order according to your appetite, reducing food waste. It's a fun and social dining experience, but you can also enjoy a solo meal. I was reminded of a similar experience in Taiwan, where I stayed next to a solo hot pot restaurant. I was impressed by the concept of solo dining, and Nabemaru brings that experience to Tokyo. I look forward to visiting again!
