☆ Location
Located in the backstreets of Azabu-Juban, this temple-like restaurant stands out in the residential area. The atmosphere and ambiance here are unique and special. You will be pleasantly surprised when you visit for the first time.
☆ Reservation Process
I made a last-minute reservation for dinner on a Friday and it was accepted over the phone. It may depend on timing, but it worked out for me.
☆ Atmosphere & Service
The restaurant is housed in an old traditional Japanese house with lots of antiques inside, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. However, it can get quite cold in the winter as the insulation seems lacking. They provided heaters by the tables, but it still got chilly towards the end of the meal. It's recommended to dress warmly if you get cold easily like me. The staff provides warm tea continuously, which is appreciated. The service is a bit dry with minimal explanation of the dishes, but the owner and the female staff were friendly and made the experience pleasant.
☆ Ordered Items
- Sukiyaki Course for ¥9,000
- Tuna and Avocado
- Oden (Japanese hot pot dish)
- Main Sukiyaki dish
- Rice
- Drinks
- Bottled beer
- White wine
The Sukiyaki is prepared at a separate table and served in a dish. It seemed to be a Kansai-style Sukiyaki cooked with sugar, unlike the Sukiyaki I am familiar with. It has a sweet and rich flavor, which may be a matter of personal preference. The beef, said to be Omi beef, was tender and delicious with a hint of sweetness. The portion size was moderate, and considering the price, there are other places that offer better value for money. However, the experience of enjoying Kyoto-style Sukiyaki in this unique ambiance was worth it. Thank you for the meal! ♫

It's a wonderful space that feels like a world of Ghibli, like a jazz bar or cafe, and you wouldn't think it's a sukiyaki restaurant. The meat was tender and delicious. However, what caught my attention was the customer service. The owner, a man, had a very polite demeanor, but in contrast, the wife, a woman, had a rather unfriendly attitude that I, as someone who works in customer service, found hard to believe. I wish she would be a little kinder to customers. The food and atmosphere are great, so I recommend it in that aspect, but in Azabu-Juban where there are many competing restaurants, it's important to be careful as this place is not a cheap street food joint and the customer service should reflect that.

Eating Wagyu sukiyaki in a traditional farmhouse in Azabu-Juban. The thick, high-quality Omi beef used in the sukiyaki is impressive. It's great that you can enjoy this classic dish all year round.
- Premium brand beef sukiyaki course (2nd floor seating: 8000 yen)
A super luxurious course where you can enjoy high-quality Omi beef sukiyaki.
- Fried and simmered daikon
Both the daikon and fried items are soft and flavorful.
- White ae
- Champagne (1800 yen)
I didn't see the price of the drinks, so I just ordered randomly, but it was surprisingly expensive! Still, it was delicious.
- Tuna and avocado dish
I forgot to take a photo and only have a screenshot from a video.
- Sukiyaki
Thick slices of high-quality Omi beef cooked in sugar. The meat is incredibly thick! It has a solid texture and the thickness of the beef is unmatched. It's great that the staff cook it all for you, ensuring it's delicious.
- Rice, pickles
Lastly, you can make a sukiyaki bowl by putting the sweet vegetables and meat on rice, pouring beaten egg over it. The presence of the thick meat is outstanding. The combination of the creamy egg and sweet meat is amazing.
- Dessert
Persimmon and probably Shine Muscat! Sweet and juicy.
The restaurant doesn't provide much explanation about the dishes or meat, and they cook everything quickly and then leave. The quality of the meat is top-notch and delicious, even when it cools down. The service varies depending on whether it's a part-time worker, the owner, or the owner's daughter. The lack of pandering to customers is refreshing.
The difference in course prices between the 1st and 2nd floor seating is interesting. The 2nd floor seems to be more expensive. The 2nd floor private room had a nostalgic atmosphere, like an old house, which I really liked. The 1st floor is filled with carefully selected plates and glasses, creating a spectacular sight. The seats surrounded by antique furniture and displayed dishes have a retro feel. It feels like stepping into an antique shop. You can forget about the hustle and bustle of the city. In addition to sukiyaki, they also offer courses like duck hot pot and shabu-shabu.

The restaurant is located in a 70-year-old traditional Japanese house. Inside, there is a bar counter with various types of alcohol, and upstairs there are beautifully decorated dishes and a great atmosphere. Before the pandemic, they were very busy and it was lucky that we could easily make a reservation. The appetizers were delicious, but the highlight was definitely the sukiyaki! It's a Kansai-style dish where you sprinkle sugar on slightly grilled meat and pour soy sauce over it. The owner makes it, and it's absolutely delicious. This restaurant is definitely on my list to visit again.

I visited without a reservation at 19:30 because I really wanted to eat sukiyaki!! Ah, it's been a while since I had sukiyaki. The meat was cooked with sugar and the leeks were sweet and tender, perfect balance with white rice! Everything was just perfect! Since being discharged, I've been enjoying every meal so much, it's so fun!笑

First visit. Planned to celebrate a friend's birthday but unexpectedly friend canceled. Gathered some friends and visited with 4 people. The exterior looks like an old traditional house. Inside, it's also an old traditional house. We were led to the second floor, climbing very steep stairs. There were 2 private rooms prepared. We were seated in one of them, feeling very cozy. Everyone's mood lifted. Sukiyaki was already prepared, and the menu only had drinks. There was no food menu. The sukiyaki was prepared in the Kansai style. There was also oden, and we were able to enjoy it very much.

Located down a side street off the bustling Asakusa shopping street, this hidden gem is a traditional wooden house serving sukiyaki. We had the whole second floor to ourselves and enjoyed a course of sukiyaki made with premium Japanese beef. The meat was thick and incredibly delicious! The atmosphere of the restaurant was also charming, and we were thrilled to have discovered this great spot. Instagram ID: kuidaore.8.

A hidden gem of a traditional Japanese house serving sukiyaki with a cozy atmosphere. The owner is very kind ☺ The appetizers and sukiyaki were delicious, and even the black tea, chocolate, and raisins were all tasty.

Sukiyaki course with a sweet sukiyaki sauce. Dip the meat and vegetables in raw egg. Perfect. Other side dishes were also delicious. The interior has jazz music playing, creating a unique atmosphere like Totoro's world.

"Sukiyaki showdown. It has a super retro vibe and a very hidden gem atmosphere. I happened to be craving sukiyaki and found this place, they made it with a delicious broth and sugar. It's close to Roppongi, but it's so hidden that it's not crowded at all, and I love the old folk house atmosphere. Highly recommended when you're lost in Roppongi!"

The taste was quite average. It was disappointing how the staff lacked communication skills. They were unfriendly and showed no hospitality. The meat was cooked quickly and the hot pot was prepared carelessly. As soon as we ordered drinks, plain rice was brought out, and it felt like they were rushing us to finish quickly. Even though it was a course meal, we finished eating within an hour of starting. There was no time to leisurely enjoy our drinks.
