The restaurant has about 2 tables and 4 staff members. The items ordered were as follows: - B Set (4 raw oysters + 1,000 yen raw beer) - Apple Sour x2 (300 yen each) Ice is made by an ice maker, and the shochu brand is unknown, but it's a green apple sour. The pig's ear dish is seasoned with a sweet and salty flavor that goes well with alcohol. It tastes good even when sprinkled with ichimi togarashi. It's like a Chinese restaurant on the roadside in Ueno, smoking is allowed, and it seems to be affiliated with Tenteiraku.

A Chinese-style street food stall near Ueno Ameyoko, on the Ueno Park side. They offer Cantonese-style dishes like simmered chicken and pig's feet. Skewers start at 100 yen and the prices are generally low. The staff are energetic and make the experience enjoyable. The food is delicious and the overall atmosphere gives off a fun foreign vibe.

Exquisite pig trotters can be enjoyed at the Chinese food stall "Kushikushi-ya" in Ueno Pig Trotters. Do you like them? I personally enjoy both boiled pig trotters with vinegar miso and simmered pig trotters seasoned with soy sauce. I recently went to Ueno for cherry blossom viewing and visited the National Museum, so I stopped by Ameyoko. Ameyoko has changed quite a bit. When I visited during the pandemic, there were hardly any people, food and beverage establishments were closed, and many small retail stores had closed down, but now it was bustling with energy. About 70% of the customers were foreigners, but it's nice to see the area lively again. After walking around Ameyoko, I got thirsty and decided to take a break. I was drawn to a sign advertising 10 live oysters for 1000 yen, and I entered a Chinese food stall called "Kushikushi-ya" where there were a variety of cooked meats such as pig trotters and pig ears displayed. Foreign tourists seemed intrigued and were making purchases. The stall had a wide range of menu items, and the 1000 yen snack set was a great deal. Pig trotters, pig ears, lamb skewers, and a drink all for 1000 yen. And the portions were generous. The pig trotters were so delicious, with tender meat easily coming off the bone. They were seasoned with soy sauce, sugar, and Chinese spices like star anise. The pig ears had a nice texture, and the lamb skewers were flavorful with plenty of spices but not too spicy. It was a really good deal for 1000 yen!! I couldn't eat all 10 live oysters, so I had 4 for 100 yen each. They were small but tasty. I also tried a warm tofu soup with dried tofu, which the staff said was their most popular dish. I didn't understand why it was the most popular, but as a tofu lover, I enjoyed it. I love the lively atmosphere of these food stalls. Some of the staff couldn't speak Japanese, but they provided polite service. I would love to visit again when I'm in Ueno. Oh, I should have bought some pig trotters to take home...

I decided to stop by a skewer restaurant called "串串香屋" to eat one more dish before heading home. Looking at the menu, it gave me a sense of déjà vu, as if I had seen it before. I ordered chicken wings (6 pieces for 300 yen) and sharpin (1 piece for 200 yen) which I hadn't tried yet. The chicken wings arrived first. They had a refined taste, cooked to perfection and were deliciously tender. I liked them so much that I even ordered a 12-piece set for 600 yen to take home. The sharpin also arrived, cut into four pieces. The skin was crispy, much better than the street food versions I've had before. I paid with PayPay and the receipt showed "天天楽". It was just as I suspected!

The name of the restaurant is KUSIKUSIKOUYA. Located in front of JR Ueno Station, this place offers a variety of unique dishes that make you feel like you're at a street food stall overseas. I ended up having just one drink at a table outside, but the pig's feet, yakitori, and bowl set for 1000 yen was an incredible deal. Despite the busy location, I quickly felt at ease in the lively atmosphere and ended up ordering more dishes. The prices are cheap, the service is fast, and I highly recommend this place.

The second stop on the Ameyoko bar hopping journey was a Chinese street food stall. Located on the left side of the two-way street just after entering from the Ueno direction, the shop caught my eye with its mountain of meat. Inside, there were tables and a counter, and I was able to find a seat at one of the tables which was empty. The set menu offered a great deal with the "Drinking Set for 1,000 yen" which included a specialty dish and a drink. I chose the C set (pig trotters, pig ears, lamb skewers) and the B set (4 pieces of fresh oysters), along with beer and lemon sour for drinks. The pig trotters were delicious, cooked in a Shaoxing wine and star anise broth to a melt-in-your-mouth texture. The pig ears were also tasty and had a nice crunchy texture. The lamb skewers were good, but as a Hokkaido native, I prefer Genghis Khan (grilled lamb). The fresh oysters were plump and delicious. Despite feeling full from sushi earlier, I couldn't resist ordering a cup of sake (400 yen). I ended up chatting with the Chinese ladies next to me, sharing a hot pot dish and ordering chicken feet without bones, which were surprisingly tasty. After enjoying a fun time and feeling completely stuffed, I had to end the Ameyoko bar hopping journey after just two stops. I packed up the leftover pig trotters and chicken feet, and also bought a smoked chicken for takeout. Until next time, I vow to limit myself to just two drinks and snacks to ensure I can continue the bar hopping adventure properly. Goodbye for now, Ameyoko.

There is a shop in Ameyoko where you can get a set of "4 live oysters and a beer" for 1000 yen. When I ordered, they gave me an extra 2 oysters for free, so I ended up with 6 oysters in total! I recently tried out the spicy hot pot, which was delicious. It was so authentic that I couldn't even recognize about half of the ingredients, but it was amazing! 😊✨

Ameyoko street-side store. An open-air shop with a unique atmosphere in Ameyoko, where they sell maguro tuna on the side of the street. We casually stopped by for some day drinking and bar hopping. In front of the shop, there were pig feet, chicken meat, and it had a vibe similar to the Chinese restaurant in Spirited Away where the parents turn into pigs from eating too much. Initially, three of us ordered the Set A for 1000 yen each, which included 4 xiao long bao, 2 lamb skewers, a draft beer C, pig feet, pig ears, 1 lamb skewer, a draft beer F, smoked chicken, and sausages. The table was filled with a generous amount of food. The pig feet came in a set of three, and the pig ears, smoked chicken, etc., were piled high on the plates. The lamb skewers were delicious. I'm not a fan of pig feet, so I passed on the oysters that were 1000 yen for 10 pieces, even though it was tempting. It was a hot day, so I refrained from ordering them as they were displayed outside. I forgot to take a picture of the drink menu, but juices were 100 yen, sours and other mixed drinks were 330 yen, and beer was around 400 yen, I think. Anyway, I thought it was cheap. There was no cover charge, so we could easily enjoy the atmosphere and have some day drinking fun.

At some point, Ameyoko has become an Asian shopping street with influences from China, Taiwan, Korea, Turkey, and Japan. It feels like a night market where you can take a break. The street is lined with restaurants offering a variety of meats like pork, chicken, and beef. I chose set C from the casual drinking sets (A-F), and when I mentioned that I didn't like lamb, they kindly switched it to grilled Xiao Long Bao. The pig's feet and pig's ears were served in larger portions than shown in the menu photos, and they were hot and tender. The Xiao Long Bao was filled with plenty of filling and meat juice, very delicious. The chaotic noise and lively atmosphere of Ameyoko, along with the beckoning talks, provide a unique experience, perfect for those who used to be backpackers. I plan to visit again for a more relaxed and leisurely time. I had only eaten about 1/3 of the food when I finished my beer, so I asked if I could take the rest home, and they gladly packed it for me. Casual Drinking Set: ¥1000 Date: Tuesday, around 2 pm Frequency: First visit Location: About a 5-minute walk from Ueno Station

"串串香屋" is a Chinese restaurant located about a 5-minute walk from JR Ueno Station's Hirokoji intersection. They offer a variety of authentic Chinese dishes such as lamb skewers, beef skewers, pork belly skewers, grilled gizzards, and grilled xiaolongbao. However, they also have some more unusual items like duck rack for 1,000 yen, pig's face for 2,500 yen, pig's ears for 300 yen, and duck neck for 1,000 yen. The menu includes both Chinese characters and Japanese translations for easier understanding. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere with open-air seating, and the food is served generously. The reviewer recommends trying the chūhai set for 1,000 yen, which includes options like grilled xiaolongbao and lamb skewers with a beer, or other sets with different combinations. The reviewer also notes that canned beer is a better deal than bottled beer at this restaurant. Overall, the reviewer enjoyed their experience at the restaurant, especially the delicious food and the surprisingly affordable Kubota sake.

Next door to the seafood skewer shop, while waiting, I checked out the menu of the neighboring restaurant that caught my interest. I love Asian food, and I wanted something hot, so I decided to have some grilled soup dumplings and noodles before heading to my next appointment. I also planned to grab a coffee later, so I ordered 4 soup dumplings, but they brought me 6 on a plate, which is so typical of Chinese places (lol). I should have said something when they brought it, but I forgot because it was so cold. It reminded me of the time in Korea when I ordered 100 pouches and they said they'd give me a discount if I bought 300. Japanese people really don't complain much, do they? I also ordered beef and glass noodle soup, and it had a curry flavor! I wasn't expecting that. It was a guilt-free, light soup that warmed me up. The big grilled soup dumplings filled me up (lol). But street stalls are still cold. My body was warm, but my toes got chilly. Some of the soup leaked out of the dumplings, and some overflowed from my mouth (lol). But it was delicious. I'm curious about the fried bread... do you eat it as is? No one seemed to be eating it. Is it sweet, or what's the deal? But it's so big, I wonder if it would give me heartburn. I'll have to try it sometime! Thanks for the meal. The bill was slyly for 6 dumplings. Truly Chinese, right? (Well, who knows how many people are involved, haha)

Ueno, Taito-ku, Tokyo. A Chinese-style pub in Ameyoko called Kushikushi Koya. The nearest station is Ueno Station, a major gateway in the north, served by the Yamanote Line and Keihin-Tohoku Line, as well as Keisei Ueno Station on the Keisei Main Line. The menu offers a variety of unique dishes, creating a fun atmosphere reminiscent of a night market. After being turned down by several planned restaurants, our drinking party finally secured a seat at this Hokkaido cuisine pub, Chin Chin Ken. We wanted to finish with fried rice, but unfortunately it was sold out. It was around 10:30 pm when we were walking through Ameyoko towards Ueno, and we were lured into this restaurant by a hostess. The staff were mostly of Chinese descent, as were about half of the customers. The interior had a few counter seats and tables, with most seating outside. We ordered verbally and paid afterwards. Today's order: - Tohoku Ryampi (600 yen) - Fried rice x2 (400 yen each) - Taiwanese sausages x3 (200 yen each) - Grilled Xiao Long Bao (6 pieces) (600 yen) - Harbin sausage (400 yen) - Green tea highball x2 (300 yen each) The fried rice was moist and delicious, the Xiao Long Bao had a generous amount of meat, and the Tohoku Ryampi was a spicy stir-fried dish with chewy rice noodles, bean sprouts, and chives. The Taiwanese sausages and Harbin sausages had a unique flavor that paired well with the drinks. The drinking party ended around 11 pm. Perhaps we'll try Kanda next time.

It feels like a Taiwanese street food stall. The atmosphere is nice, but leaving ingredients outside is a bit concerning in terms of seasonality and hygiene. I had a set of oysters and beer, grilled xiaolongbao (6 pieces), spicy tofu skin, Taiwanese sausage, yakisoba, and lamb skewers. I opted for grilled oysters instead of raw ones. Each oyster was large and quite delicious. I switched my beer to a highball, which was rich and tasty. The spicy tofu skin had a spicy flavor, and it came with a large bottle of chili oil, which made it even tastier. It was quite spicy. The xiaolongbao lacked a bit of juiciness. The sausage and skewers were sweet and savory. The yakisoba was just average. You can take home any leftovers.

While walking around Ameyoko, I was lured in by a sign advertising 5 oysters for 1000 yen. However, it turned out to be a Chinese restaurant. I decided to go for the deal of 4 oysters and a draft beer for 1000 yen, which also came with a bonus pan-fried dumpling. You could choose between raw and grilled oysters, and I opted for the grilled ones. The oysters were quite large, and while I prefer them grilled, it was a bit difficult to cleanly remove them from the shell since they weren't pre-cut.

I love this kind of store because I am used to going to China. The staff all seem to be Chinese. They sell various meats like duck and pork at the storefront. Some people may not like it, especially in this day and age where hygiene cannot be guaranteed. I've been scolded by my family to refrain from going out, but I love this place. We ordered one dish each to satisfy our hunger a bit before having sushi for dinner. The spicy beef tendon and smoked half chicken were delicious, making me crave for beer. There were many other tempting dishes as well - I wish we could have tried more here instead of going for sushi. I will definitely come back here again. Thank you for the meal.

In Yokohama Chinatown, I often bought this unique delicacy with a Chinese aroma - beef Achilles tendon. While the norm is to have just the tendon part, mine was different. This Chinese-style simmered Achilles tendon has a delightfully chewy texture. The scent of star anise is not overpowering, but the Chinese flavor of the beef tendon is nostalgically delicious. You can enjoy Chinese ingredients in the store, but taking it home and having it as a snack with drinks is the best. It's easy to take home, so I would love to buy it as a souvenir when I visit Ueno in the winter.

This is a story from early March. I received some great information about delicious pig trotters from a reliable source, so I rushed to Ameyoko. When you pour spicy sauce on the pig trotters and eat them, you can drink endless green tea highballs. Feeling confident, I ordered some mara kombu, which turned out to be the spiciest kombu I've ever had, making the green tea highballs endless.

Anyway, it's really cheap. You can also enjoy the atmosphere of Ueno. I wish they would be a bit more particular about the oysters, but hey, for this price, I shouldn't complain, right? (laughs) Fresh oysters are like 8 for 1000 yen. The price may vary depending on the season. But one thing for sure, it's cheap.
