A restaurant located in Ningyocho where you can enjoy a giant oyster fry the size of a fist. Established in 1970. From October to the end of April, they only offer oyster fry set meals, and from May onwards, you can savor bonito from the first catch to the returning bonito, depending on the season. This restaurant operates only for 2.5 hours on weekdays, serving a limited 50 servings of oyster fry set meals made with oysters from Hiroshima.
Location: 2 minutes walk from Ningyocho Station
Business hours: 11:00 - 13:30 (Last order 13:15)
Closed: Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays
Crowdedness: I visited on a weekday afternoon and waited in line for about 30 minutes.
Today, I ordered the "Sanyu Oyster Fry 3-piece Set Meal" (¥1580). From October to April, it seems that they only offer oyster fry set meals, as I was asked by the staff while waiting in line, "Would you like 2 or 3 pieces?" Extra rice is available for an additional ¥150, and payment is required in advance. After a short wait at my table, the Sanyu Oyster Fry arrived. It was about the size of a fist, and I couldn't even finish a quarter of it in one bite. There are various ways to enjoy it, with salt, sashimi soy sauce, shichimi chili pepper, sauce, and lemon provided. The oyster fry has more oysters than batter, and it's so large because they stack multiple oysters to make one fry. Depending on the season, they stack 4-15 oysters per fry, using smaller oysters in October when they start selling, and larger, plumper oysters in January-February. The batter remains crispy, with a creamy oyster inside. The rice is pleasantly chewy. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want to try oyster fry.
