Three minutes walk from Shinjuku Sanchome Station in Tokyo, there is a Hong Kong-style food stall called Kowloon, offering a set of five-flavor fried rice and shrimp chili for 950 yen. It is located a little off the main street, but I believe it is quite a longstanding Chinese restaurant as I have known it since my student days. I arrived just before 2 pm with no customers ahead of me and four customers behind me. There used to be a real lunch menu displayed at the storefront, but now it's gone, which may have made it less inviting for new customers. The food arrived about 10 minutes after ordering. The fried rice, despite being labeled as five-flavor, was quite ordinary with only one shrimp on top, but the taste was good. The shrimp chili, as a side dish, had a decent portion and was not too spicy, making it enjoyable even for me. It was my first visit in two years, and I left satisfied. Thank you for the meal!

I had been curious about this restaurant for a while. When I called to make a reservation, they said they couldn't take reservations for two people. I wondered if it was only for groups? Haha. I ordered salted duck eggs, stuffed intestines, coriander dumplings, and Sichuan mapo tofu. They all had basic flavors of local Chinese cuisine at a reasonable price. However, the Sichuan mapo tofu was disappointing and lacked the authentic Sichuan flavor.

The restaurant had an atmosphere that clearly indicated it was a great place, and I just knew the food would be delicious. I ordered a variety of dishes, and they were all so tasty. The stir-fried shrimp, tomato, and egg dish was outstanding! I want to eat it again. The stir-fried cashew nuts with plenty of ginkgo nuts was also delicious. I definitely want to go back!

This is my first visit. Located about a 5-minute walk from Shinjuku-sanchome Station, this place had one other customer when I visited around 1:30 pm on a weekday. The interior has table seating, a counter, and even terrace seating, with a decent number of seats available. The staff, though a bit rough around the edges, gave off a definite street food vibe. I ordered the mixed fried rice and mapo tofu set for 900 yen. It arrived in about 6 minutes. It's rare to find something under 1,000 yen in Shinjuku-sanchome, and the portion size was good. The fried rice, despite being labeled as mixed, mainly consisted of one shrimp and egg, with a bit of ham mixed in. However, the moist fried rice was not too dry and had a soft texture, making it quite delicious. The soup had plenty of seaweed and egg, with a gentle flavor typical of Chinese soup. The pickles were a unique Taiwanese-style spicy radish pickle. The mapo tofu was quite heavily seasoned, almost too much to eat on its own. It had a salty-sweet taste from the generous use of Chinese miso-based seasonings. Honestly, it would have been better with a side of plain rice. The fried rice seems to be the signature dish of the restaurant, and it's both tasty and affordable. Choosing what to pair with the fried rice seems to be the fun part of dining here. Although I skipped the garlic-filled dumplings today, they would probably go best with the fried rice. Maybe next time I'll try the fried rice and dumplings set. Thank you for the meal.

I wanted to have a daytime drink and saw people outside enjoying drinks after 4 pm, which looked nice. However, there were no seats available outside. Inside was also nice, and I quickly got a table at BANBANJIE. The food was delicious, especially the coriander dumplings that paired well with beer. The sweet and sour pork was also tasty, but I wish it had been more sour.

I visited on a Saturday night. The weather was cool and nice, so I sat at the counter. The dumplings had a chewy, thick skin and were crispy on the outside. The garlic stir-fried pea shoots were delicious. There were so many things I wanted to try that I couldn't finish, so I want to go back again!

I went for lunch at a restaurant in Shinjuku 3-chome, a 5-minute walk from JR Shinjuku Station East/South Exit and a 2-minute walk from Shinjuku 3-chome Station. The restaurant has counter seats, table seats, and terrace seats, suitable for various occasions. This time, I ordered the soupless tantanmen set for lunch. The soupless tantanmen was decent, not outstanding but not bad either. For 950 yen, it comes with rice, pickles, and soup, which is a good value in Shinjuku. There are other menu options, so I'm thinking of trying something different next time.

A shop I've always wanted to visit, located a 2-3 minute walk from Shinjuku Sanchome Station. The outdoor table seats have a lively atmosphere reminiscent of a street stall. Inside, the staff and the whole vibe give off a genuine Chinese feel. I was excited!
Ordered items:
- 5 dumplings for 500 yen
- 3 chive buns for 580 yen
- Sichuan-style stir-fried young chicken tempura for 850 yen
- Garlic fried rice for 850 yen
First, the dumplings. I don't really like them at all! The skin is thick, the filling lacks juice, and there's a bit of a strange taste. These are definitely some of the worst dumplings I've had.
The chive buns were my second time trying them. The first time was at a recommended Chinese restaurant in Otsuka, which was delicious. Maybe that set the bar too high... These weren't bad, but they felt lacking.
Skipped the tempura and went for the fried rice. It didn't feel like it was made by a pro Chinese chef, but more like a home-cooked meal in terms of taste. It's not bad, but it gives off a strong homemade vibe.
Maybe I set my expectations too high, but the atmosphere was nice and the prices were affordable, making it a good spot for a casual gathering. In terms of taste and value for money, it's just average. Thank you for the meal.

After the pandemic, I had a daytime drinking session with friends for the first time in years. For our second stop, my senior took us to this place. We ordered a bottle of Shaoxing wine for a toast. We enjoyed sausages, dumplings, and stir-fried pea shoots, all of which were delicious. The best part was dining outdoors, which felt great! I think it would be fun to bring my family here too. I will definitely come back.

A restaurant that serves Chinese cuisine at outdoor table seats, just like a Hong Kong street food stall. There are different charms for both daytime and nighttime. Of course, there are also indoor seats available. I enjoyed dishes like century egg, salami, and coriander dumplings. The drink menu is extensive, and it's recommended to leisurely drink while snacking. The long spring rolls are crispy and light, almost like a snack. The daikon rice cake has a chewy and sticky texture. It was a place where I had various encounters. In Japan, we also enjoy eating outside during nice weather, but it seems that outdoor seats are especially popular with foreign customers. It was lively and very enjoyable.

I live in Osaka and I'm on a business trip in Tokyo. I've been drinking every night and feeling tired, so today I decided to have dinner alone near Shinjuku San-chome. Most of the Chinese restaurants were about to close (around 9 pm) and wouldn't let me in, but Kowloon let me in. The dumplings were really delicious, so I immediately ordered 2 more servings (see photo). It's been a while since I've had such delicious dumplings.

On days when there is no bento lunch, I wandered around and ended up entering a restaurant due to my desired shop being under construction. The restaurant's name seems to be inspired by Kowloon Walled City, giving a local vibe to the place. The waitress inside was friendly and welcoming. The daily special was spicy stir-fried squid. I chose the lunch set with mapo tofu, which was recommended along with their famous fried rice. The set included fried rice, mapo tofu, soup, and pickled vegetables for 900 yen. The food arrived in less than 10 minutes and tasted pretty average. It might be a good idea for them to combine the fried rice with mapo tofu and another dish on one plate to create a deluxe fried rice set.

Suddenly craving Chinese food, I searched and randomly entered a restaurant. Started with the dumplings, so delicious!! Then I had the garlic fried rice. It was really tasty, my friend and I kept saying "yum yum" to each other while eating. I will definitely go back to have the fried rice again.

I came looking for shrimp fried rice, but they didn't have it... So I settled for seafood fried rice instead. The shrimp was small, but it was there so it was okay! I also ordered jellyfish, shrimp mayo, and daikon mochi, but I felt like it wasn't enough so I ordered eggs and tomatoes, which turned out to be unnecessary... The shrimp mayo was big and delicious though!

I visited this place in Shinjuku Sanchome for the first time, and it has a deep and mysterious atmosphere, like something out of a movie. You can see the kitchen clearly from the counter seats! The sound of the chef tossing the wok blends perfectly with the interior, creating a unique and immersive experience. I had Shaoxing wine on the rocks, squeezing lemon slices and adding more as I drank, a new way for me to enjoy Shaoxing wine that I really liked. The dumplings had a chewy skin, which I think is a common feature in Chinese restaurants, but I loved it. The generous portion of pickled vegetables made me smile. I ended up just drinking and enjoying that alone (since it was the second stop). For the third stop, I went to Gifu-ya in Omoiden Yokocho. Thank you for the delicious meal! I will definitely visit again!

I was looking for a second bar to go to in Shinjuku 3-chome. The first bar was Italian, so I was looking for a Japanese, yakitori, or Chinese place for the second one. As I wandered around Shinjuku 3-chome, I was overwhelmed by the lively atmosphere while searching for a place. I found a bustling Chinese restaurant and decided to go in. They were in the middle of cleaning up, but a table opened up in about 2-3 minutes. I ordered gyoza and stir-fried garlic chives, and they were delicious and piping hot! I want to go back again!

I got off at Shinjuku Sanchome Station and walked out onto Suehiro Street. As I ventured a little further in, I noticed a row of charming shops. This restaurant is located in a narrow alley in that area. It's a popular Hong Kong cuisine restaurant. I decided to have lunch there that day. It was just past 1 o'clock, so it was relatively empty. I entered the restaurant and sat at a table. I started off with a draft beer. A cold beer in the middle of the day is so refreshing. Now, what should I order for food? I usually go for the set meal, but today I opted for the Five-Ingredient Ankake Yakisoba. Ankake Yakisoba with a beer sounds perfect. As I leisurely enjoyed my beer, the Five-Ingredient Ankake Yakisoba was served. I ordered another beer. The combination of the crispy yakisoba noodles and thick ankake sauce was delicious. The seasoning was on the stronger side, but not overpowering. Enjoying the yakisoba with beer was the best. I also appreciated the soup and pickled vegetables on the side. The portion was quite generous, so by the time I finished, I was pleasantly full. The prices were reasonable, and the restaurant's foreign ambiance added to the experience. I had a delightful lunch.

Located in a narrow alley in Shinjuku Sanchome, this Chinese restaurant exudes a nostalgic atmosphere. I had the daily special of pork and wood ear mushroom stir-fry with fried rice set. The fried rice wasn't too dry, with a relatively light flavor. The pork and wood ear mushroom stir-fry had a rich seasoning, complementing the dish well. The miso soup with seaweed was a bit on the salty side. While the location and exterior of the restaurant make a strong impression, the taste is that of a typical Chinese restaurant. It's a good place to enjoy the ambiance without any worries. Thank you for the meal.

There is a Hong Kong-style street food stall in a back alley of Shinjuku Sanchome. It was quite crowded, but luckily we were able to find a seat. I ordered a Oolong Highball for 390 yen, which was reasonably priced. The taste was okay. The menu had a wide variety of dishes, ranging from 500 to 800 yen, which I found to be quite reasonable. I ordered dishes such as Spicy Stir-Fried Pork and Lotus Root (750 yen), and they were all delicious. The food was tasty, reasonably priced, and overall, I had a good impression of the restaurant. I would definitely want to visit again if I'm in the area.

The area around Sanchome in Shinjuku is lined with restaurants and bars, and this restaurant is located in a narrow alleyway, reminiscent of a Hong Kong street. I have visited this place for lunch several times before, but this was my first time having dinner here. Since we didn't make a reservation, we sat at the counter as a party of two. We started with a toast with draft beer. We ordered the recommended crab meat xiaolongbao and a generous portion of sausage. The sausage arrived promptly, thinly sliced like salami, with a rich and delicious flavor that paired well with alcohol. The xiaolongbao took a bit longer to arrive. The slightly brownish color of the skin gave it an authentic feel. The piping hot soup-filled xiaolongbao was indeed delicious. Since the food was so good, we decided to order one more dish. We chose the shrimp and tomato scrambled eggs from the stir-fry section. The restaurant was getting busier, and the outdoor terrace seating was also full due to the rain, so we were glad to be seated inside. Despite the crowd, the stir-fry dish was served relatively quickly. The balance of red tomatoes and yellow eggs was visually appealing and appetizing. The flavors were not too strong, allowing the taste of the tomatoes and eggs to shine through. With plenty of shrimp adding a nice texture, this dish was quite delicious. We ordered three dishes in total, all of which were tasty, making the beer go down smoothly. Considering the taste, the prices were reasonable, making it a great spot for enjoying Chinese cuisine. The ambiance was also nice, making it a good restaurant overall.
