モンチッチ
Yesterday was Tsubame Grill, today was Din Tai Fung. Two consecutive days at the Tamagawa Takashimaya series. Din Tai Fung, after 6 years. Despite entering at 4:00 PM, there was a wait for 2 groups. Din Tai Fung's popularity is impressive. I remembered when it opened in Shinjuku Takashimaya in 1996, there were a frightening number of pipe chairs lined up for waiting customers (there are no pipe chairs now, but people are still lining up). The monitor displayed a 12-minute wait, but we were seated in 2 minutes. The seating arrangement seems to be good for social distancing, with tables spaced far apart. The window seats offer a great view, overlooking the Yugao area. Tableside service is provided. The set menu with xiaolongbao is recommended. There is also a wide variety of a la carte dishes, making it suitable for drinking occasions. They also offer craft beer. I have listed all the menus at the bottom. The ordering system has changed from verbal to writing on paper, which I'm not sure if it has always been this way or recently changed.
- Bottled beer (770 yen): I chose Lager instead of the draft beer, which unfortunately was not cold enough. This resulted in a lot of foam when poured.
- Koshu Ryusen 8-year Decanter (2,200 yen): I chose the 8-year version, which took a considerable amount of time to be served. The glass was wet, indicating that it was rushed to be washed.
- Mung bean sprout salad (530 yen): A spicy and tasty appetizer with tofu, green and white onions, and mung bean sprouts.
- Soy sauce simmered eggplant (640 yen): A classic dish with miso sauce, served quickly as a cold dish.
- Chicken marinated in Shaoxing wine (770 yen): The Shaoxing wine flavor was strong and delicious. I chose the scallion sauce, which was the right choice.
- Xiaolongbao: I opted for the set with 4 xiaolongbao instead of ordering them individually. The xiaolongbao at Din Tai Fung is truly delicious and sets the standard for this dish.
- Dan Dan noodles set (1,650 yen): The flavor of the sauce seemed artificial and overpowering, not to my liking.
- Hot and sour soup noodles set (1,600 yen): The peppery hot and sour soup was delicious, and the noodles were enjoyable.
- Mango ice (680 yen): A delightful dessert with a unique Taiwanese twist, different from regular shaved ice. The mango flavor was enhanced by the sauce.
Overall, the total cost for one person was 4,200 yen. I will definitely return for the xiaolongbao.
