Today's dinner was at YAKITORI KIGIYA Ikebukuro Nishiguchi, in front of Ikebukuro Art Theater. It's been a while since I visited KIGIYA. I was surprised when I looked at the menu! I first visited the main store in Nishiguchi 12 years ago, and back then, a skewer of pork head meat (Kashira) was 150 yen. Now, it's 275 yen. Almost double the price. Certainly, in the 12 years since then, they have successfully expanded their chain in Ikebukuro, but charging 275 yen for one skewer of Kashira seems excessive. The taste and portion size haven't changed at all. I never thought a day would come when the leading yakitori place in Ikebukuro would do this. In the past, there was only the main store in Nishiguchi, with a mother working diligently in the kitchen and chatting with customers in between. Unfortunately, with this bold pricing and the absence of the mother figure, I felt like this might be the beginning of the end for KIGIYA.

After snacking while watching a baseball game at the dome, we wanted to eat yakitori and experience the hustle and bustle of Ikebukuro. We ended up at this restaurant. We underestimated the portion size of the grilled dishes, which were very generous. We had already eaten quite a bit of motsu-ni, sashimi, and other appetizers, so we were quite full. It was a happy dilemma. For the amount we ate and drank as a duo, the price was just right. The food was delicious. We will definitely visit again.

Cost performance is the best! The variety of dishes is abundant! Each dish is voluminous! Be careful not to order too much ⚠️ Among them, my favorite menu is the spring rolls and skewers! The spring rolls were about twice the size of normal spring rolls and were filled with plenty of ingredients. The outside was crispy and very delicious! I ordered skewers with pork tongue. Is it pork because it's tongue? It had no peculiar taste, was juicy, and had a satisfying texture! I might like it more than chicken... All the skewers were large, so I think I could be satisfied with 2 or 3 skewers... The ham cutlet was not so good... The appetizer was shishito peppers, which could be divisive as some people may not like them. They were spicy and made my tongue tingle a bit. The spiciness made it hard to taste the other dishes, so while it was delicious as a dish, I couldn't help but think that it might be better not to serve it as an appetizer.

The location is about a 10-minute walk from Ikebukuro West Exit. I made a reservation in advance and arrived at 7:00 pm. We were seated on the second floor and ordered through a mobile device. It felt a bit impersonal to order yakitori, a casual dish, using a digital device. We ordered a variety of yakitori (chicken thigh, liver, heart, and intestine) and a simmered offal dish. The portions of yakitori were quite large and satisfying, which is a characteristic of this restaurant. The chicken liver with spicy miso was delicious, and the crispy intestine was also very tasty. The chicken heart had a rich flavor, but the chicken intestine was a bit tough and disappointing. The simmered offal dish was very tender and tasty. The conversation at the dinner meeting was lively, and the drinks kept flowing. I had black Hoppy beer, two refills, and a kakuhai highball. One thing that was a bit disappointing was that when I wanted to add shichimi spice to my dish, I had to call the staff over and specifically ask for it. It would have been nice if the shichimi was already on the table. Also, the system of ordering through a mobile device didn't seem to fit well with a yakitori restaurant. It felt impersonal and lacked interaction with the staff, which made the experience less enjoyable. Additionally, there were a couple of mix-ups with our orders, which made me question the efficiency of the mobile ordering system. Overall, while this restaurant is a well-known yakitori place originating from Ikebukuro, personally, I still prefer the yakitori from the Akimotoya group of restaurants.

I used it for a company social gathering. I hadn't had alcohol in a while, so I had a good time and only took these two photos. There were dishes like low-temperature cooked meat and grilled pork, some of which I didn't know what they were or tried for the first time, but everything was delicious with no disappointments. The non-meat dishes were also delicious, of course. The cost performance was great, it was the best! I would like to use it again.

Second visit. Made a same-day reservation and arrived around 7:30 pm on Friday. Wanted to try the popular simmered dish and rolled omelette, but they were sold out. Recommended dishes were potato salad and grilled chicken. The spring rolls had a unique flavor with a pepper base. Good value for money, even with ordering 3 drinks, the total was just over 4,000 yen.

Despite the substantial portion sizes, the cost performance was excellent.

Ikebukuro's popular yakitori spot. It is definitely delicious, but I think the prices have gone up compared to before. However, the food is so tasty that I'm willing to overlook that. It's more about savoring the delicious food rather than eating a lot. Good for when you want to enjoy something tasty!

The appetizers were also reasonably priced, generous in portion, and delicious, making it a highly satisfying experience. I personally would definitely come back for the potato salad and yakiton.

I waited with anticipation, but maybe I had set my expectations too high. The vinegar tripe was different from what I have had in Fukuoka, with less acidity and more fat. The grilled pork tongue was as expected, but it didn't have that special feeling of being a must-eat here. However, there was a sense of comfort and reliability. It felt like a place where you come in and leave quickly, with a sophisticated touch.

The restaurant name is written as "Hayashiya" and pronounced as "Hayashiya." I use it multiple times on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. There are several branches in Ikebukuro, so it's great that you can almost always enter without waiting. The size of the grilled skewers is large, and whether you order motsu-ni (tripe stew) or spring rolls, everything is delicious. There is a wide variety of alcohol, and the oolong highball and sake are delicious. When I go to an izakaya in Ikebukuro, I almost always go here. I will come back again!

After finishing the first party, we decided to go for a second round because we felt like it wasn't enough. The first party was focused on Japanese sake, so we opted for a food-centric second round. We chose this restaurant where we had delicious yakitori before. It was already 8:30, so we were worried it might be crowded, but luckily it wasn't! We had already been drinking quite a bit, so we ordered an appetizer (390 yen), an assorted yakitori plate (3 types for 580 yen), and 2 tsukune skewers (250 yen). We were looking forward to it, and when it arrived, it was great! The assorted yakitori plate for 580 yen was really cheap. We pulled the skewers apart to make them easier to eat. The first bite was amazing. It was so delicious. I can't quite describe the taste, but it felt really good. The texture, the flavor, everything was just right. We quickly finished it and ordered another assorted yakitori plate. That was enough for us. It goes well with highballs too. By the way, I think the drinks are reasonably priced as well.

The person who took me there said, "This is definitely the main store," but isn't the owner different here? There are other stores with the same name! I haven't been to the other one, but the main store seems to be exceptionally delicious. My personal opinion is that the high-quality tofu and konjac served as appetizers are the best! The three kinds of low-temperature cooked dishes are good, but I wish they were seasoned with a little salt and cooked a bit more. The grilled dishes are perfect and delicious! The aroma of charcoal is also amazing. As for the fried dishes, well, the squid tempura was so good that I couldn't stop eating it. The highlight for me was the kikubara (chicken neck), which you don't see often, so I was happy to have it! Also, the tsukune (chicken meatball) was exquisite in my opinion! If I were to make a request, it would be to serve it with a raw egg yolk because the sauce was so delicious that it would be heavenly! Another favorite of mine was the cream cheese with smoked cheese. This is just my personal opinion, but most places serve smoked cheese on a sliced piece of cheese, which tends to be expensive and runs out quickly when shared among multiple people, right? But at this restaurant, they finely chop the smoked cheese and mix it with cream cheese, creating a perfect balance and allowing for easy sharing, which I found to be fantastic. I thought it was a nice idea from the restaurant staff! I was so engrossed in eating that I didn't take many photos as usual, but everyone, please try this restaurant when you're in Ikebukuro!
