Introduction~ A lively chicken specialty bar along the Ueno train tracks ~ After getting off at Ueno Station, head in the opposite direction of Ameyoko and Ueno Park, towards the street leading to Okachimachi, where you'll find Torimichi Sakaba for a drink! Perhaps due to the influence of COVID-19, the street seems less crowded... and the restaurant was not full, so we could easily walk in. The staff were mostly of Asian descent, and the female staff were very polite and welcoming. Menu~ Reasonably priced, making it easy and enjoyable to drink and eat at this bar~ ① Assorted skewers (5 pieces for 490 yen) - At less than 100 yen per skewer, it's quite affordable! From chicken thighs to negima, pork belly, bonjiri, and quail, it's a great lineup. Enjoyed them with the sauce. ② Deep-fried tofu (390 yen) - Warms you up on cold days, and at a reasonable price! A must-order for me when I go to izakayas. ③ Chicken thigh yukke (490 yen) - I don't often have the chance to eat this, so I tried it. Covered in green onions and quail egg yolk, it was delicious. ④ Squid salted guts (290 yen) - A decent amount for a very cheap price! It's also available with white rice, making it a great combination. It's a really lively and fun restaurant. The second floor closes around 1 o'clock, so you'll be moved to the first floor. You can smoke at your table. Everything I ate was delicious. However, I think they should reconsider the presentation of the pickles platter. When it was brought out, I was surprised. It looked like they just put together leftover pickles for the platter.

This is my first visit! I was curious about the fire extinguisher sour so I came to drink it - it was easy to pour, but the ice melted quickly so maybe it's better to order one drink at a time? The cost performance seems good? I didn't really like the texture of the liver sashimi! The tongue sushi was a bit tough, I wish it was softer, it's good for lunch drinking but it's a bit small and crowded, if you want to drink quietly, maybe try another place...

There are several 24-hour izakayas on a street near Ueno Station and Okachimachi Station. I arrived after 9 o'clock and found that the counter seats were available while the table seats were about half occupied. I got permission from the floor staff to sit at a counter seat separated for couples and decided on my order while looking at the menu. I ordered a large draft beer for 750 yen (excluding tax), "Sand Liver Crunchy" for 350 yen from the daily recommendations, "Octopus with Wasabi" for 290 yen from the appetizers, and three skewers of grilled items for 100 yen each (salted cartilage, chicken heart, tsukune). I also enjoyed nibbling on the Hijiiki simmered appetizer for 390 yen. I realized I forgot to order sashimi, so I checked with the staff about the availability of "Raw Chicken Liver" for 490 yen. They confirmed they had one more portion, so I ordered it. The octopus with wasabi and sand liver crunchy arrived surprisingly quickly and made the table look even more luxurious. The sand liver was more enjoyable than the typical portion at budget izakayas. The grilled items also arrived faster than expected, in just 12 minutes. I chose awamori with soda for 430 yen from the shochu selection. The grilled items were not cheaply made and I particularly liked the tsukune. Finally, the white liver was excellent and felt like more than just one portion. I was pleasantly surprised by the satisfaction I got from this meal. I paid with a QR code and the whole experience took 40 minutes.

We used it with 4 people. We were able to enter even on busy days. It's a decent place for the price. You can smoke at your table, so it might be good for smokers. The seating is a bit tight, so it might get smoky. If you like the option to smoke at your table, definitely check it out.

I was craving yakitori so I wandered around Ueno. I was drawn in by the 250 yen draft beer at the storefront and decided to go in. I ordered the "toriaezunama" and wasabi pickled nagaimo. I ordered two skewers of momo and liver with salt, and tsukune with sauce. The skewers come in sets of two, so if you want more, you have to specify. The appetizer was chapchae, which was surprisingly delicious. While enjoying the nagaimo, I waited for the yakitori. The yakitori came out in pieces. The liver was slightly firm on the outside but tender inside. It wasn't dry, so for the price (110 yen including tax), it was good enough. Nothing else particularly stood out. Feeling a bit unsatisfied, I added a ham cutlet. The thick ham was fried crispy and cut into four easy-to-eat pieces. The sauce was poured on the corner of the plate, which was a bit disappointing as I wanted more. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

The first thing that caught my eye was the famous "Digestive System Sour". I enjoyed drinking it at first, but halfway through I was completely drunk... It's equivalent to 5 regular sours so be careful. This time, I visited "Torimichi Sakaba Ueno Honten" located at Ueno Station. I recently visited Torimichi Sakaba Ueno Honten, which is conveniently located near Ueno Station. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is lively and gives you high expectations for delicious food. The yakitori was carefully grilled, and each skewer had a melt-in-your-mouth texture that was truly fantastic. The liver, in particular, was exquisite and the best I've ever had. It paired perfectly with the alcohol, allowing me to have a pleasant time. The staff's service was also very polite and likable. I definitely want to visit again next time. I highly recommend that you stop by when you're near Ueno Station. It's a very satisfying restaurant.

Unfortunately, it's raining this week, almost every day. It already feels like the rainy season with the cool yet humid weather. I arrived in Ueno in the afternoon and had a 3-hour meeting there, followed by dinner with a friend in the area. Despite the rain, Ueno was bustling with energy. I remembered a place in Shinjuku called Torimichi Sakaba, so I took my smoking friend there. We started with a toast with bottled beer. Since we weren't too hungry, we opted for some light snacks: - Soy-marinated cream cheese: Cream cheese marinated in soy sauce, perfectly flavored and versatile with any drink. It was quite filling and delicious till the end. - Crunchy gizzard: A recommended dish of the month, boiled gizzard with green onions and ponzu sauce. It was piled high and very tasty. - Asparagus wrapped in pork belly: A classic combination that never fails. The flavor of asparagus and the richness of pork belly were excellent. - Bacon-wrapped cheese: Generous servings of thick bacon wrapped around large pieces of cheese. A bit more crispiness in the cooking would have been better, but the combination of bacon and cheese was spot on. - Special hand-kneaded tsukune (with egg): Highly recommended and it did not disappoint. The tsukune was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, similar to a hamburger. My friend had the mentaiko cheese version, which was also delicious. We might try all the varieties next time. - Thick rolled egg with cheese: A large portion with plenty of cheese. The rolled egg was excellent as well. There were multiple flavors available, which was a nice touch. Overall, the cost performance was great, and the speed of service was fast, which was convenient for someone like me who is impatient. The highball was strong, and the lemon in the carbonated water had a subtle fragrance that was delightful. I ended up drinking more than planned because it was so good.

Torimichi Sakaba This time I had plans in Tokyo... so I decided to go solo bar hopping in Ueno! I've always admired the downtown feel of Ueno, which is different from Fukushima! The main dish at this restaurant is chicken cuisine. Here is the lineup of dishes: <Dishes> 1. Appetizer: Chinese-style wood ear mushroom salad 2. Negima skewers 3. White liver sashimi <Drinks> 1. Citric acid sour 2. Fruit jelly sour (lemon mint flavor) - Appetizer: Chinese-style wood ear mushroom salad The first thing I had was the Chinese-style wood ear mushroom salad appetizer! A simple dish with wood ear mushrooms and shredded konjac. It also has chili oil added, but the vinegar taste is strong and refreshing! This simple dish is perfect for the first bite on an empty stomach. - Negima skewers Skewers come in 1 type with 2 pieces each. I was torn, but went with the reliable negima! I like liver, but I usually have it as sashimi (mentioned later). The negi (green onion) here is more crunchy than tender! Similarly, the meat is not too tender but has a firm texture from being cooked thoroughly. - White liver sashimi It was my first time trying white liver, but I felt safe eating it since it was cooked at a low temperature. I looked it up and found out that it's the fatty liver part of the chicken! That's why it's so rich! This... it just melts on your tongue! Like cream. I'm hooked. <Drinks> - Citric acid sour I was torn between beer and a little sweetness, so I went with the citric acid sour! It had a strong sweetness and less acidity! - Fruit jelly sour (lemon mint flavor) I was curious and ordered it! Because the menu was right in front of me... I like mint flavors so I chose the lemon mint flavor. The top part is a regular lemon sour, but the jelly is mint flavored! Is this the collagen part? You can enjoy a new texture by mixing it while drinking, and it's visually appealing too! <Atmosphere & Customer Base> The customer base ranges from groups of men and women to parties, with many foreign solo customers as well! Most of the staff were foreigners! There are many popular restaurants around, making the atmosphere lively both inside and outside the restaurant!

I accompany my master to his favorite Torimichi Sakaba. Torimichi Sakaba is a popular izakaya that can be found everywhere these days. I must admit, I ended up having one too many highballs. I recently had oysters in Hiroshima, but the ones here were equally delicious. The crispy fried coating was so good. The wasabi pickled yam was so flavorful that even someone like me who doesn't drink much alcohol couldn't resist having a few drinks. If only they served this with just alcohol, everyone could go on a diet, right? Apart from the nutrients, I think that would work. The great seasoning here must be the reason. The creamy taste was not just one-dimensional, but had a complex flavor. The cream cheese soy sauce pickles were like thieves stealing alcohol, making me think I wouldn't want to be in that world, yet I couldn't help but enjoy them. This kind of food probably increases the number of drinkers like my master. They are so delicious, right? The pork dumplings they boast about were truly amazing, with a sweet taste and a soft texture that made them stand out. You can't help but admire the sweetness of the meat and filling. They were really delicious. It's clear why Torimichi is becoming popular even in this area with many izakayas. It was very tasty and surprisingly affordable. I thought this would be a great place for everyone to go. It's quite rare in Ueno, isn't it?

The all-you-can-drink option includes draft beer. I wanted to try the fire extinguisher sour drink though. I wasn't expecting much from the horse sashimi, but it was delicious! The yakitori was just average. The atmosphere is typical of Ueno, which I don't mind. You can also smoke here, although I don't.

On Sunday evening, after enjoying cherry blossoms at Ueno Park, we went to a second restaurant because we still wanted to chat more. We randomly walked into this restaurant that seemed easy to get into. The place was almost full, but we were seated at the counter. We started with a highball for a toast, then enjoyed dishes like simmered tripe, plump and thick flounder, yakitori, cucumber, and addictive cabbage. Even though we were already full from the first restaurant, we ended up eating a lot! Everything was delicious, especially the flounder! Since it's a casual izakaya, the prices were very reasonable, and even though we drank quite a bit, it didn't cost more than 3000 yen per person. It's a welcoming place to easily walk into as long as you're not looking for a fancy restaurant. Thank you for the meal! 🍻🌟

The open-air table seats facing the street are also bustling. This time, I went with a friend who loves alcohol and we were also hungry for dinner, so we decided to come here. The restaurant spans the first and second floors of the building, as well as the basement. We were seated on the second floor, and almost all the seats were taken! It was so crowded that it was hard to hear my friend sitting across from me. If you're mainly focused on drinking, you can be satisfied with around 2,000 yen. Since we were also here for dinner, we decided to eat well. We started with "horse sashimi," "Caesar salad," and a mixed skewer platter. The skewers come in sets of 5 for 539 yen. If you order wisely, you might even get a Senbero (cheap set with drinks)? We also tried the recommended "assorted oden" and the addictive "salmon and avocado with wasabi soy sauce." Despite the crowd, the two waitstaff were efficient, bringing out dishes one after another. In busy restaurants like this, having excellent staff is crucial. I was drinking sake, but I felt like I was getting drunk, so I switched to non-alcoholic drinks. I noticed an interesting thick rolled omelet on the food menu. The "thick rolled omelet with seaweed" had a unique texture that I had never experienced before! We also ordered the "deep-fried young chicken," which was hearty and delicious. Finally, we finished with "salt yakisoba" and "kimchi fried rice." This izakaya is versatile, catering to both casual drinkers and those looking for a substantial meal. It's a great place to enjoy the essence of Ueno. It might be nice to drink outside on a sunny day too? Thank you for the meal.

When I want to eat cheap and delicious izakaya food, I often use Torimichi Sakaba. Not only in Ueno, but also in Shibuya and Shinjuku, there are branches which makes me happy. I haven't reviewed them, but I think I have visited almost all of the stores. I usually have a simple meal of yakitori and gyoza here, but when I ordered the sukiyaki that I hadn't eaten before, it was quite delicious so I want to introduce it. - Sukiyaki can be ordered from 2 servings. The pot contains chicken, chicken meatballs, Chinese cabbage, shimeji mushrooms, tofu, carrots, watercress, leeks, etc. It is cooked on a gas stove for about 10 minutes and it's done. The gentle salt-flavored chicken meat umami broth is incredibly delicious. The vegetables soaked in that broth are also quite delicious, so you can eat as much as you want. There are also chicken bones with the meat, and the deliciousness around the bones of the meat is excellent. For the finishing touch, you can choose between udon or zosui (rice porridge). The zosui, soaked in the umami and fat of the chicken, is exceptionally delicious and a great way to finish the meal. - Karaage: I always order this crispy karaage here because I like it. The pre-seasoning is mild, allowing you to enjoy the deliciousness of the chicken itself. The size of each piece is substantial, giving it a satisfying texture, so I recommend it. - White liver sashimi: Safe and secure white liver sashimi that has been cooked at low temperature. When you put it in your mouth, it has a meltingly smooth and soft texture. When you lightly dip it in the sesame oil provided on the plate, the flavor becomes more pronounced and easier to eat. I regret not ordering this liver sashimi before. It was so delicious that I should have ordered more. The place is open 24 hours, and it seems to be recognized by many drinkers in Ueno, as it was bustling even in the bright hours and almost full. Next time, I plan to try the cheese tteokbokki recommended by the female staff. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the main store of Torimichi Sakaba in Ueno! I had the Digestive Sour (Highball), fried tofu in dashi broth, and more. Ueno is the second stop on the bar hopping, so I chose stomach-friendly foods. I don't remember eating some of the dishes even though there are photos of them, probably because I was quite drunk when I entered the restaurant (sorry). The Digestive Sour was so impactful and fun that I have to mention it. This place is an izakaya where you can eat yakitori at a good cost. The 1-liter Digestive Sour has a push mechanism to dispense the drink - you can choose between sour and highball. It's enough for about 5 servings, so it's great for sharing with friends. Just be careful not to spill it when you're drunk (I may have spilled a little). The visual impact was fantastic and it was great for starting conversations. I want to explore more bars in Ueno in the future, and next time, I'll make sure to try the chicken dishes too!

Continuing from the New Year, we decided to have a morning drink in Ueno. I wonder what we really want to do. Probably just want to drink alcohol. If we get tired of drinking, we can go to the museum or zoo to kill time. Even in Ueno, it seems that only 24-hour open shops are available in the early morning, and while wandering around, we found "Torimichi Sakaba". Checking on Tabelog, it has a rating of 3.24, which seems good for a chain restaurant. So, we decided to make a pit stop there. As the name suggests, Torimichi Sakaba specializes in chicken dishes. Among them, the items written in red are their specialties. Let's go for all the items in red: "Raw chicken liver" for 539 yen, "Fried chicken wings" for 649 yen, "Chicken thigh skewers" for 110 yen each x 2, and "Green onion skewers" for 110 yen each x 2. For drinks, we ordered "Draft beer" for 429 yen x 2, "Shiso shochu Tantaka" for 473 yen, and "Black Kirishima with hot water" for 473 yen. First, the chicken liver. Oh, this is good. It has a richness without being overwhelming. This should fulfill our daily vitamin A intake. The highlight was the fried chicken wings, they are huge! I can't contain my excitement for oversized food as usual! And there are 4 pieces, so I guess I'll have 3 and my wife will have 1. When I tried it, the crispy surface and savory sauce combination made it really delicious! Even though my hands got sticky, I finished all 3 quickly. They seem to use "Kyoto Beni-dori" or "Oyama-dori" brand chickens, which were surprisingly tasty. Thank you for the meal! This place made me want to drink a little more leisurely.

When it comes to Ueno, the underpass izakaya street is the place to go for a quick drink. I met up with an old friend after a long time and decided to try out this place. To be honest, I've always wanted to challenge myself to visit one of the izakayas under the Ueno overpass, but I finally mustered up the courage to do it this time, haha. This izakaya is located about a 3-minute walk from Ueno Station. The charm of Ueno izakayas is the outdoor seating, and this place is no exception. The underpass in Ueno is known for its cost-effectiveness, and this place is no different. We ordered a variety of dishes a la carte. As someone who plays sports, being able to choose what I want to eat or avoid that day is a big advantage. The menu offers a variety of unique items like "chicken gyoza," which you don't see everywhere. We started with the Chorogi salad, served in a salad bowl with a satisfying crunch from the vegetables and seaweed. The chicken gyoza were quite large and juicy, providing a good bite. The assorted yakitori skewers and pork kimchi were also delicious. The rolled omelette was exceptionally fluffy! We also tried the grated mountain yam with wasabi, another unique and tasty dish. I didn't have high expectations for a casual drink at an Ueno izakaya, but each dish was well-prepared and delicious. I'll definitely choose Ueno for a quick drink with friends next time. The restaurant has a good amount of seating space, with tables, small private rooms, and even a second floor. With so many izakayas to choose from in Ueno, it can be overwhelming, but you can't go wrong with this place for a quick drink!
