I walked up Dōgenzaka from Shibuya, but if you take the Inokashira Line, it's faster to go from Kamiyama Station. The location is easy to find along Ura-Shibuya Street. This time, I tried the premium sukiyaki course. Starting with appetizers like tempura and raw oysters, followed by three slices of sukiyaki meat each, it was a substantial meal that even included dessert. With a bit of alcohol, it came to around 23,000 yen for two people, which felt like a good deal. If you want to eat sukiyaki in Shibuya, I think I'll go back again.

"Shinsen 'Matsumoku' is a long-established sukiyaki restaurant in Shibuya. Located up the slope of Dogenzaka, just before Shinsen Station. The meat melts in your mouth, and the finishing kishimen noodles soaked in the sauce are exquisite! It's great to have a place like this in the young town of Shibuya. It's also child-friendly, so it's convenient for moms. The staff is very kind."

Located on the uphill slope of Dogenzaka in Shibuya, this place looks like a bar from the outside but inside it feels more like a cozy traditional Japanese restaurant. [Appetizer] The simmered daikon radish with yuzu flavor was a delicious and high-quality appetizer. The daikon was well seasoned and tasty. [First Dish] The shirako (milt) was soft, chewy, and melted in the mouth, pairing well with alcohol. [Second Dish] The assorted sashimi platter included chu-toro, shellfish, engawa (fluke fin), and rolled sardine. It was beautifully presented and tasted great, perfect for leisurely enjoyment. [Main Dish Sukiyaki] It felt like there was about a 20-minute gap between the sashimi and sukiyaki dishes, with a vegetable platter served first for you to cook yourself. The Saga beef with marbling was incredibly tender and melted in the mouth, especially when dipped in the egg. [Ending and Interlude] For the finale, you can choose between white rice with pickles and clam miso soup or pickles and kishimen noodles. [Desert] The dessert was a refreshing combination of ice cream and melon. This quiet restaurant offers a relaxing atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of Shibuya, making it a highly recommended spot for a leisurely dining experience.

I am from Yokohama, the birthplace of Gyunabe (beef hot pot). I love Gyunabe. I have tried various Gyunabe restaurants in Tokyo such as Asakusa Imahan, Ningyocho Imahan, Okahan, Hinoyama, Ishibashi, Imafuku, Botan, and Chinya, including the now-closed Yoshihashi. Gyunabe brings people together and has a sense of cultural enlightenment. My favorite Gyunabe restaurants are Ningyocho Imahan and Matsukiya. I have also visited three historic Gyunabe restaurants in Yokohama: Ota Nawano Ren, Araiya, and Janomeya. Among them, I prefer the lunch at Araiya. I have also visited Matsukiya and Ningyocho Imahan, which require reservations. In terms of cost performance, Ningyocho Imahan is the best. In conclusion, while homemade Sukiyaki using high-quality meat is the best, dining out for Sukiyaki is also enjoyable for special occasions. Matsukiya is my personal favorite for dining out. Sukiyaki is a popular choice for entertaining guests or tourists. Foreigners enjoy it, especially when served in a traditional Japanese room. I recommend trying both the 5000 yen and 7000 yen Sukiyaki options. The additional meat and side dishes are also delicious. The restaurant offers a wide variety of drinks, but strangely, the highball is disproportionately expensive. Nonetheless, it is not a major issue. I recommend trying their original sake, which is marinated with meat. The pricing is very reasonable, and they also offer lunch options now. It is a highly recommended restaurant with a great price range.

I had some errands to run in Shibuya and came across this restaurant. It specializes in sukiyaki and shabu-shabu. Since I'm not a fan of fatty meat, I opted for the shabu-shabu course. Before the shabu-shabu, they served small dishes like sashimi, all of which were quite delicious. I forgot to mention the shabu-shabu meat, but it had a good amount of marbling.

Shibuya Sukiyaki for 2000 yen! The landlady is lovely and the atmosphere is cozy like visiting your grandma's house ☺️ If you know Shibuya well, you might be familiar with this restaurant. They used to suspend lunch service, but recently they seem to be open for lunch again, so I paid a visit! For lunch, they offer sukiyaki, sashimi set meals, shabu-shabu, etc., but I was there for the sukiyaki! The "Black Wagyu Sukiyaki Set" for ¥2,200 comes with a small pot filled with 3-4 large slices of meat. It's a proper and delicious sukiyaki, not some cheap imitation! You can have free refills of rice, and they also make a delicious "ojyaa" using the sukiyaki sauce and egg at the end. It shines like gold and tastes amazing. They even serve two types of ice cream for dessert, making you feel truly pampered. The interior of the restaurant is spacious and has a traditional Japanese feel, reminiscent of a ryokan, giving you a nostalgic sense of coming home. The landlady, her husband, and their son run the place like a family business.

Established over 140 years ago, Matsukiya is a long-standing sukiyaki restaurant located a 6-minute walk from Shibuya Station. Founded in 1880, the restaurant has a history that includes locations in Iidabashi, Ueno, and Asakusa before settling in Shibuya in 1933. Tomorrow, I have a new client presentation at a food company, so I decided to visit Matsukiya to get pumped up. Although I have interacted with them on social media, this will be my first visit. 【Sukiyaki Course - 4,400 yen】 - Small dishes: High-quality delicacies from Odawara, including exquisite pickles. - Black Wagyu Sukiyaki: Beautifully prepared in front of you, featuring eggs from Tochigi. Indulge in the sweet and savory world. - Kishimen (or rice): Absorb the flavors of beef and vegetables with plenty of egg and shichimi seasoning. - Dessert: Apple sherbet and vanilla ice cream, served with warm hojicha. Atmosphere & Service: Comfortable tatami seating and lively, cheerful service. A rich and relaxing experience. In summary, I chose kishimen over rice and was pleasantly surprised by the additional servings of rice, miso soup, and pickles provided as a service. Thank you so much! In Shibuya, at the long-established restaurant "Matsumokuya" in Kamiyama, you can have proper sukiyaki for lunch as a set meal. According to Tabelog, the opening day was in 1880 (!!). When I visited for lunch on a Saturday, there were no other customers. The atmosphere at lunchtime is somewhat laid-back, almost pastoral. Upon entering, there is a bar counter in the front, followed by table seats, and at the back, there are tatami rooms with a quite unique layout. The menu includes the famous "sukiyaki set meal," as well as "sukiyaki course" and "sashimi set meal." The set meal is ¥2,200, and the course is ¥4,400, both on the high-end for lunch. I ordered the "sukiyaki set meal," which arrived in about 5 minutes. The sukiyaki pot came with kinpira and tamagoyaki on a side dish, raw egg, miso soup with clams, pickles, and rice. Rice refills are free. The main sukiyaki consisted of three large slices of loin meat, each about 40-50g. Being loin, it had a good amount of lean meat, perfect for a hearty meal. The broth was gentle and relatively light. The quality of the egg was good and complemented the meat well. Other items included grilled tofu, green onions, shirataki noodles, and Chinese cabbage. As a kaiseki restaurant with sukiyaki as the main dish, the miso soup with clams and pickles were delicious. For dessert, lemon sherbet and vanilla ice cream were served. When it comes to sukiyaki, enjoying a hearty hot pot is great, but having sukiyaki with that sweet and salty sauce clinging to high-quality beef in a casual set meal is also wonderful. After soaking in a hot spring in the middle of the city, I visited here. Having sukiyaki for lunch after a hot spring bath feels like being at a ryokan. For someone like me who rarely eats high-quality brand beef, either indulging occasionally or grabbing a beef bowl at Yoshinoya or Matsuya, having sukiyaki for lunch was a blind spot for me! Eating good quality meat in a decent amount, mixing it with sauce and egg, and enjoying it with rice is just the right choice! I used it for lunch. This restaurant is famous for sukiyaki, but for some reason, I felt like having fish that day. I chose the sashimi set meal. Hmm, ordering a sashimi set meal at Matsukiya, I must be a fool. The sashimi was nothing special, but the chawanmushi (savory egg custard) and miso soup were excellent. I enjoyed it.

From lunch, I indulged quite a bit at the long-established sukiyaki restaurant "Matsumokuya." Despite being an old establishment, the atmosphere is not intimidating, rather it feels very cozy. Sukiyaki at this place is great. You get 4 slices of meat per person, along with side dishes, dessert, rice, miso soup, or noodles. The staff cooks the meat for you, so it's convenient. You can enjoy the meat with shichimi seasoning, not just with raw egg. The meat melts in your mouth and is delicious. The sashimi on the a la carte menu is also good.

I have been wanting to visit this place for a while, but I was turned down a few times due to being fully booked. Finally, I was able to make a reservation. As it gets colder, I start craving sukiyaki. I'm sure many people feel the same way. When I visited, I found out that this is a historic restaurant. I decided to splurge and ordered the top sukiyaki course. The beautifully marbled meat was delicious. I would like to come back in a season other than winter to enjoy their steak. I am also curious about the bar counter where long-time regular customers gather.

The lingering atmosphere of the old flower town and stylish shops and restaurants are mixed in the Kamiyama area. Matsukiya has a history of 80 years, and I admire their long-standing presence in this changing Shibuya neighborhood. Today, with a group of four, we visited the restaurant with high expectations for the sukiyaki. We had made a reservation for today's menu, so there was no need to hesitate over the tempting choices. We started with appetizers like sashimi and tempura before moving on to the main sukiyaki course. The sukiyaki was prepared right in front of us by the gracious hostess, adding just the right amount of dashi to balance the sweetness. The richness and umami flavors kept increasing with each serving, making the sukiyaki truly exceptional. The thickness of the meat, the perfect egg mixture, and the delicious vegetables all contributed to a satisfying meal. The final dish of kishimen noodles was the perfect ending, leaving us all in agreement that we would definitely come back to this restaurant.

I finally had the chance to visit this restaurant that I've been wanting to come to after hearing about it from a friend. The entrance looks like a bar, so if you didn't know, you might mistake it for one. Once you go inside, there are tables and tatami rooms where you can enjoy your meal. I decided to go for the sukiyaki course, and it was a great choice. The portion was big and the quality of the meat was excellent, but I couldn't finish it all. I wish they had a healthier option with more vegetables and fewer meat slices. At the bar near the entrance, there were regular customers enjoying their drinks, probably having been coming here for years. It made me think that even as time passes and things change, there are places like this that remain constant, filled with memories of people and events. I might not be able to come here often, but when something good happens, I would like to visit this place again. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I visited this long-established restaurant in Shibuya that I wanted to try at least once. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant is modern, which was different from what I had imagined, but the bright interior was comfortable. I ordered the sukiyaki. The cooking is done entirely by the veteran staff of the restaurant. Customers just need to enjoy the meal provided. It may be convenient, but for those who prefer to eat at their own pace... The Omi beef was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I finally visited a restaurant that I had been curious about! We asked the hostess to manage the sukiyaki pot for us, but we ended up taking over because we wanted to eat the meat while it was still hot. The hostess seemed to keep making more for us as she saw us eating the meat right away. The taste was excellent. I tried adding extra premium meat to compare with the regular sukiyaki, but I personally preferred the regular meat for its balance of meat and fat. Smoking is not allowed at the tables.

Established in 1890, Shibuya Matsukiya is known for its sukiyaki. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you are hit with the aroma of the meat's fat! The staff will cook everything right beside you, so all you have to do is enjoy. The beef, cooked to perfection, is incredibly delicious. The appetizers, sashimi, and desserts that follow are also outstanding.
