Located about 3 minutes from Higashi-Ginza Station, near Kabuki-za, is "Ishidaya" run by a couple in traditional Japanese attire. Recently featured on the TV show "Matsuko no Shiranai Sekai" as a popular lunch spot for delicious boiled fish in Ginza (open only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays), the restaurant has become even more popular. The couple, who enjoy visiting kilns, have recently acquired Mino ware dishes from their trip to Gifu. This adds to the charm of the restaurant, as diners can also enjoy the tableware. Today, I visited with the intention of trying the boiled fish. I opted to change the grilled fish in the "Basic Course" (¥9,500 including tax) to boiled fish for an additional ¥2,500. There is also a "Boiled Whole Fish Course" (¥11,000 including tax) available. The "Basic Course" consisted of a starter, a platter including bamboo shoots and wood buds, sushi rolls, simmered shrimp, rolled omelette, tofu with green peas, and other dishes. The soup had a unique aroma with a slice of yam on top. The sashimi platter included red snapper, blackthroat seaperch, and sea bream, each with a distinct flavor and texture. The main dish was the boiled fish, which I changed to kasago fish. The kasago had a delicate and elegant taste, with a rich broth. The side dish of simmered taro had a gentle flavor, and the mugwort gluten had a strong presence. The meal was accompanied by lotus root and shiso leaf rice, a new addition with a delightful aroma of shiso. For dessert, I opted for the "Hoshiei Liver" as a strong dish, which was like butter and highly recommended. Other options included homemade salted fish roe, pickled fish, and duck simmered in vinegar. The dessert choices included various traditional Japanese sweets and a choice of matcha. I had a delightful time listening to stories about meeting Matsuko in the studio. I look forward to visiting again soon.
