On a certain holiday, I decided to go out for lunch in Nakano. I didn't have a specific place in mind, so I was just wandering around the food and drink street in the north exit, looking for a nice restaurant. As I was walking, I stumbled upon Yakiniku Like in Sun Mall shopping street! (Come to think of it, I've never tried Yakiniku Like before, so I decided to go in)
Yakiniku Like in Nakano Sun Mall is a fast food yakiniku restaurant. There are counter seats separated by acrylic boards and small tables for two along the wall. Since I was alone, I took a seat at the counter. A cute staff member approached me and asked, "Is this your first time dining with us?" I replied, "Yes, I'm a complete novice, so please guide me," and she explained while operating the tablet in front of me in a familiar tone. To summarize the staff's explanation:
1. Order using the tablet
2. When the food is ready, you will be notified on the tablet, then take your number card (LIKE CARD) and go to the pick-up counter
3. Chopsticks and paper towels are in the bottom drawer
4. Self-checkout using the number card (with barcode)
I quickly placed my order. While waiting for the meat to cook on the roaster, I immediately received a notification on the tablet saying, "Your order is ready." I took my number card to the counter, picked up the set, and placed it on my counter by myself. I was surprised to see that the wooden tray fit perfectly into the counter groove! (It's well-made) The set included Upper Loin & Harami Set (150g) for 1160 yen, along with rice, soup, and kimchi. I opted for a small portion since I was planning to go for drinks later, but 150g is surprisingly a lot. There are several types of sauces to choose from, so pick your favorite. Grab the meat with tongs and cook it on the roaster. It's a smokeless roaster, so it doesn't get smoky, which is good. Dip the cooked meat in the sauce and take a bite... Mmm, delicious! Both the Upper Loin and Harami were tender and had a rich flavor. I realized that this was my first time having "solo yakiniku." It's quite nice to enjoy yakiniku for a little over 1000 yen. Yakiniku Like is a place where even a solo diner can easily drop by. The era of gathering around the roaster and enjoying yakiniku together may come to an end due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The system and the times seem to align perfectly, as the chain is rapidly expanding its number of stores.
