However, there is no Hidakaya in Gunma where I live. I wanted to eat something simple, so I ordered soy sauce ramen. I also ordered gyoza. I debated between fried rice and gyoza, but ended up choosing gyoza. I thought I ordered the 6-piece gyoza, but they brought me the 3-piece instead. Maybe my pronunciation was off. By the way, the staff on the floor was a foreigner. Soon after, my ramen arrived. The noodles were thin and yellow. They were tasty. The soup was a typical soy sauce base, but it felt a bit shallow. It seemed like they didn't spend much time on it. I could see some bonito or dried fish powder in the soup. But for this price and taste of ramen, and the fact that you can have it from morning until late at night, is quite nice. The gyoza was crispy and delicious too.

The other day, I stopped by at Hidakaya on my day off after drinking. The restaurant was not crowded, so I ordered the Gomoku Ankake Ramen, yakitori, and gyoza. It didn't take long for the food to arrive, and I was satisfied with both the taste and portion size. And it was cheap! I will definitely visit again!

This time, I had stir-fried liver and leeks, grilled dumplings, and bamboo shoots with three glasses of shochu highball. The shochu highball is strangely 20 yen cheaper than green tea highball, lemon sour, or whiskey highball, and it has a slightly sweet taste that makes you wonder what kind of sweetness it is. Despite the curiosity, I keep ordering it because it's cheap. Thank you for the meal.

The gyoza (6 pieces) for ¥210 was tasty, not incredibly delicious but addictive. The spicy tonkotsu negi ramen for ¥560 was not too spicy, with a rich tonkotsu broth and finely chopped green onions, a satisfying portion. Overall, the atmosphere at the Yotsuya-Sanchome branch was pleasant, with good service. In April 2013, around noon, I visited the restaurant feeling a bit under the weather and ordered the "Japanese-style tsukemen" for ¥490, added "finely chopped green onions" for ¥110, and "half fried rice" for ¥240. The place was about 50% full, but quickly filled up after noon. The middle-aged female staff was unusually friendly, which I found refreshing for a place like Hidakaya. The food was surprisingly tasty, making me question their business model of not aiming for exceptional taste. Overall, I thought having a drink at Hidakaya once in a while wouldn't be a bad idea, especially when feeling a bit sick.

Peeking through the glass gap in the shop, you can catch a glimpse of Shinjuku Street. I enjoy a drink while watching people rushing home after work. The alcohol prices are reasonable, and I tend to have 2-3 drinks like at an izakaya. I ordered the limited-time "meat soba" for my meal. The soy sauce-based soup is topped with egg, onion, and a generous portion of pork belly. The highlight is definitely the pork belly. While the chashu is delicious, the flavor of the pork belly is exceptional. Just like with marbled meat, the deliciousness of meat lies in the fat, and the pork belly, with its rich fat, is the perfect part to savor the taste of pork. I realized later that this would taste even better with rice or fried rice, combining the pork belly with a rice dish.
