Less than a 10-minute walk from Akasaka Station on the Tokyo Metro... heading towards Nogizaka, on a slope after turning right at the Akasaka-Rokuchome intersection, there is a Japanese set meal restaurant called "Wajoteishoku". I have been working in this area for quite some time, and there are still many restaurants I want to try, so whenever I have some free time, I search on Tabelog to find new places. One day, I came across this restaurant by chance, which offers high-quality Japanese set meals during lunch hours only, so I decided to check it out. Here is my review of my first visit.
On a certain weekday after 1 pm... even at this time, the restaurant was almost full... luckily, as a solo diner, I was able to enter without waiting, but I heard that the 3 customers who came after me had to wait for a while... it shows how popular this place is. The ordering process is modern, using a ticket machine to purchase meal tickets, but please note that only cashless payment is accepted... no cash is accepted.

- Grilled Salted Mackerel Set Meal (1375 yen)
There are 9 lunch menu options... including rice bowls and ginger pork, but I chose the grilled mackerel which was at the top of the menu... the operation of ordering as soon as you purchase the ticket was interesting to watch... The restaurant is run by 2 staff members, one in charge of cooking and the other in charge of serving and customer service... the bright and polite service was very pleasant... while waiting for my order, which arrived in about 10 minutes, I could see the vibrant cooking happening behind the counter... Now, as usual, I recommend referring to the photos for more details, but the main mackerel dish looked amazing with its perfect amount of fat... a crispy sear and a generous amount of grated daikon radish... let's dig in... "Hmm, this is good!" The flavor of the mackerel with more fat than expected was delightful... it seemed like the bones were carefully removed, so I could enjoy eating without worries. The spiciness of the grated daikon was also perfect, making it a refreshing dish... Next, I was truly impressed by the mushroom soup... served in a soup bowl with a handle, the flavor of the mushrooms was sensational... the rich miso-based broth with plenty of mushrooms had a comforting warmth and a compassionate deliciousness... The quality of such dishes in this restaurant is truly high, and I genuinely believe that they are delicious. The side dishes such as burdock and leaf vegetable ohitashi, and pickles were also very well-prepared and tasty. The rice was also exceptionally delicious... slightly firm yet fluffy, and very tasty. In conclusion, this restaurant exceeded my expectations... especially the amazing flavor of the mushroom soup was truly impressive... They must be using quality ingredients, and although it may be slightly pricey for everyday use for a salaryman, considering the location and the quality of the food, I think it's worth it. It's a bit far from my workplace, but I would like to revisit to try other menu items when I have the chance. Thank you for the meal.
