I visited the Ito-Yokado Akabane store located in Kita-ku, Akabane. This store is on the 6th floor of the Ito-Yokado Akabane store, just a 1-minute walk from the west exit of JR Akabane Station. Kineya is a nationwide udon restaurant that incorporates the traditional hand-made udon technique of Sanuki and uses a light Kansai-style broth. Some stores offer a live demonstration of udon-making at the storefront. This was my first visit to this store and also my first time visiting Kineya in Tokyo in about 7 years. In the past, I used to visit the Forus store in Kanazawa (now closed) and the Emza store to enjoy the "Oyasan's egg and udon" dish, but I haven't visited Kineya in Kanazawa since the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen and the increase in dining options at the station. I entered the store around 1:30 pm on a weekday. About half of the tables were occupied by customers. Upon entering, I used hand sanitizer provided at the entrance. The store had both 2-seater and 4-seater tables, and I was guided to a 4-seater table despite being alone.
Order:
Cold shrimp tempura grated udon (830 yen including tax) * I ordered a large serving because it was free (a half serving increase).
The cold Bukkake is usually served with a normal noodle soup base, but for a limited time, you could change it to a soy sauce base called "dashi soy sauce." I chose the "dashi soy sauce" this time. The dish was served in about 7 minutes after ordering. The "dashi soy sauce" I chose was served separately as it was a stronger flavor. I was advised to add it little by little, check the taste, and eat. The cold shrimp tempura grated udon included shrimp tempura, eggplant tempura, kamaboko, grated daikon radish, bonito flakes, shiso leaves, and chopped nori. The udon noodles were slightly thicker than regular udon noodles. They were smooth with a slightly chewy texture and a good elasticity. The wheat flavor was present, making it quite delicious. The "dashi soy sauce" was quite strong in flavor, and just a little bit was enough. The soup had a strong umami taste. Mixing the grated daikon radish, bonito flakes, chopped nori, and "dashi soy sauce" with the cold udon made for a delicious combination. The tempura toppings were served hot and crispy. The batter was crispy without feeling greasy, and both the shrimp and eggplant had a sweet taste. Although there was no tempura dipping sauce provided, I enjoyed it with the "dashi soy sauce," but the strong flavor didn't quite match well. The space at the table seats in the store was quite cramped. This time, I sat at a 4-seater table, so I could sit comfortably, but I felt that the seat size was not very comfortable for larger individuals. The staff worked efficiently, and overall, they left a good impression. I enjoyed a satisfying lunch with delicious cold udon and was happy with the generous portion. I would like to visit again. Thank you for the meal.
