On this day, I had some errands in Hamadayama. I had a few lunch options in mind and decided to stroll around. Among them, I became interested in a seasonal cuisine restaurant called "Tora-san no Mise". It is located on Inokashira Street. I went there. It was a Sunday afternoon, but the noren curtain was out. It turns out that it is not "Tora-san no Mise", but it is actually operating as an omelette rice specialty shop called "H2F (homme homme fantasy)" at the same location. A reviewer has posted about omelette rice at Tora-san's shop, but officially, it seems that H2F is the correct name. Initially, it was open from Wednesday to Sunday, but now it seems to be open every day except Thursdays. The exterior has a cool izakaya-like appearance. Upon entering, a young-looking owner seemed a bit bored. As the reviewer mentioned, he does seem mischievous. (laughs) There is a raised seating area on the left and a counter on the right. I chose the counter seat. At this time of year, they offer dishes like turtle and eel. They looked delicious. The omelette rice menu includes soup and changes weekly with 2 menu options each priced at 980 yen (tax included). - Braised pork omelette rice - Homemade chicken curry omelette rice Extra large size is an additional 100 yen. I ordered the Braised Pork Omelette Rice for 980 yen (tax included). The price is a bit high. It took 6 minutes to come out. The braised pork omelette rice was served on a large white plate, with the omelette rice in the center like an island. Around it were four slices of braised pork and Chinese cabbage, with Chinese sauce drizzled around the omelette rice. On top of the omelette rice were white leeks, and mustard was served on the plate. The egg was nicely runny. I thought the rice inside would be fried rice, but it was just plain rice. However, the rice was slightly firm, which paired well with the fluffy egg on top. The only downside was that the Chinese sauce around it was a bit salty. It would have been perfect if it had just the right amount of saltiness. The braised pork was uniformly sliced, tender, and well-seasoned. The white leeks added a nice touch. There was no condiment like shichimi for flavor change halfway through. The soup was a vegetable soup with diced carrots and radishes. It had a gentle flavor. While eating, the young second-generation owner struck up a conversation. - The father (Tora-san) runs the evening "Tora-san no Mise". - The shop was established here 36 years ago. - The son is in charge of H2F during the day. - In the evening, they serve seasonal dishes like blowfish and turtle. And apparently, the eggplant dumplings are a specialty. We had a lively chat about the old days in Hamadayama. The second-generation owner was quite friendly. He even mentioned to check out the shop's Instagram. So, I did, and I was amazed by the variety of omelette rice options they offer. They have flavors from Japanese, Western, and Chinese cuisines. It's a unique shop, and the young owner's personality is friendly and interesting. I'm curious about the other omelette rice options, but I'm also interested in Tora-san's shop run by the father. It's a rare traditional izakaya in Hamadayama.
