On this day, at the request of my family who wanted to eat apple pie, we decided to use Gran Smith's takeout at the Tamagawa Takashimaya SC main building. I had heard of the name before because I bought a chilled dessert supervised by Gran Smith at FamilyMart last year, but this was my first time visiting the store. I thought it was a shop originating from England or America, but it turns out that "Gran Smith" is the name of a rare domestic green apple, and the store started in 2012 at the Mishuku store next to Setagaya Park. We used to live near Setagaya Park for a while, but we moved before the store opened, so I didn't know about it. It was a bit troublesome to cross the intersection from Futako-Tamagawa Station to get there, so we entered the Dogwood Plaza in front of Futako-Tamagawa Station and went to Tamagawa Takashimaya SC main building through the underground passage. The shop is located in the middle of the specialty shop area near the South Hall, with a showcase facing the passage and eat-in seats extending to the left. Looking inside the showcase, there were 7 types of apple pie, 2 types of quiche, and the Galette des Rois, which was currently on sale. After pondering how to choose for a moment, we decided to buy all the varieties except for the Galette des Rois, with 1 slice of apple pie and 2 slices of quiche for each family member. ◼️ Apple Pie (Regular Menu) Each 470 yen (tax included) ① Dutch Crumble → Fuji, cinnamon, bourbon used, staff recommended ② Classic Rum Raisin → Fuji, rum used, popular with women ③ French D'amand → Jonagold, cinnamon used ④ England Custard → Red apple used, No. 1 popular in all stores ◼️ Apple Pie (Limited Menu) Each 500 yen (tax included) ⑤ Gran Smith's Apple Pie → Limited from November to spring, green apple "Gran Smith", cinnamon used ⑥ Florentine Apple Pie → Limited to Futako-Tamagawa store, red apple used ⑦ Dry Fig and Walnut Cream Cheese Apple Pie → Limited from 11/29 to 2/27, red apple used ◼️ Quiche Each 620 yen (tax included) ⑧ Salmon and Cream Cheese Quiche ⑨ Chicken and White Sauce Quiche → Winter limited At first, a young female staff member took care of us, but when I asked various questions, a senior woman took over. She explained things patiently, and when I mentioned that I still had other shopping to do, she offered to keep the items for me until I was done. I took advantage of her offer, left a note with the pickup time, name, and cellphone number, and left the store for a while. Afterwards, I purchased deli items for dinner at the Tamagawa Takashimaya SC main building and Tokyu Food Show at Futako-Tamagawa Rise Shopping Center, and returned to the store in about 20 minutes to pick up the items. I had brought my own bag just in case, but since they offered a large paper bag that could fit the 7 slices of apple pie and 4 slices of quiche at once, I had them put everything in that bag. I took them home and had the apple pie for afternoon tea and the quiche for dinner. I tried the Gran Smith's Apple Pie and the Dry Fig and Walnut Cream Cheese Apple Pie. The Gran Smith's Apple Pie had a distinctive acidity typical of green apples. The Dry Fig and Walnut Apple Pie had a perfect balance of sweetness with the mild red apple and cream cheese. I also tried a few bites of some other apple pies, and all of them had a good texture with a restrained sweetness that highlighted the natural flavor of the apples. We shared the quiche by cutting each slice in half, trying both varieties with the whole family. The rich cream cheese and white sauce were delicious, and the portion was generous enough that we could enjoy several slices at once without feeling overwhelmed.
