Upon exiting Shin-Okubo Station, we walked along the main street (Okubo Avenue) to the right in search of a Korean restaurant. The area was bustling with young people, making it quite crowded. To avoid the congestion, we walked for more than 10 minutes from the station. Finally, we found a restaurant called Kuppaya with a straightforward name and available seating. The restaurant had spacious tables, creating a comfortable dining atmosphere without the usual noisy feel of Korean restaurants. We ordered bottled beer, makgeolli, samgyetang, bossam, and kimchi. The kimchi assortment was impressive in volume and tasted incredibly delicious. The samgyetang, a stamina dish made with young chicken stuffed with glutinous rice, garlic, ginseng, and jujube, was served steaming hot and flavorful. The bossam, boiled pork served with kimchi and vegetables, was also a delight to eat. The combination of meat, vegetables, and white kimchi was a unique and delicious experience. Overall, the food at Kuppaya was authentic and flavorful, making it a must-visit for Korean cuisine lovers.

While my friend was sending me photos of the dishes they were enjoying during their trip to Korea, I found myself wandering towards Shin-Okubo in Shinjuku. I debated whether to revisit the delicious Samgyetang I had at Bonga last time, but decided to try a new restaurant instead. I ended up at a restaurant that serves Kuppa, which was light and tasty. You can also get refills for the side dishes. The Samgyetang had a generous portion. I think next time I'll try the popular menu item, the Pork Kuppa. :)

2023/8 "Honesty, it was good!" by Akiton (・・) Korean Cuisine "Hanyang Kuppaya" ✨✨ A specialty Korean home cooking restaurant in Okubo. Where is the best place to eat Korean food? Today, seeking new flavors as always. The restaurant opened in November 2011. It is located a 10-minute walk from JR Okubo Station. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is like a casual pub. The menu is extensive and all dishes are attractive. How does the food taste (*´∇`)ノ ■ Seasonings ⚫ Tadegi (seasoned miso) mainly made with green onions, garlic, soy sauce, red pepper powder, gochujang, salt, pepper, sugar, etc. ⚫ Ami no Shiofuran A unique flavor where the umami of fish is condensed. ■ Busan Pork Kuppa 980 yen (tax included) ⚫ Appetizer Kakuteki, tofu, namul, a staple of Korean cuisine. The taste is good! I don't usually have high expectations for this type of appetizer, but this one is well-prepared. The Kakuteki was especially delicious! …………………………………… ⚫ Busan Pork Kuppa A Korean classic menu where carefully simmered pork is cooked in a soup specifically for Busan Pork Kuppa, with seasonings (Tadegi, Ami no Shiofuran). Served piping hot. The taste is... 【Flavor Change Steps】 Gradually add seasonings to adjust to your taste. 【1】 First, as it is Oh, a gentle taste contrary to its appearance. 【2】 Tadegi (seasoned miso) Moderate saltiness. Adds spiciness and richness. 【3】 Ami no Shiofuran This is my first time trying this, but it's interesting. The deep umami of the fish is condensed. The ingredients include pork, green onions, and leeks. There's more pork than I imagined. I enjoyed it until the end, feeling happy and satisfied! ■ No issues with the service. ■ The prices are cheap. The appetizer alone is worth about 500 yen. Ah, it was delicious (*´ェ`*) The Korean classic dish costs 980 yen. I really enjoyed the new flavor. Thank you for the meal m(_ _)m □ Evaluation As of August 2023, Tabelog rating 3.39, 73 reviews.

Han'yan is a cozy Korean restaurant located in Okubo. They specialize in dishes like chige hot pot and samgyetang. The name "Han'yan" refers to the capital of the Joseon Dynasty, which is similar to Seoul. The restaurant starts preparing food at 6 am, resulting in delicious dishes. There are currently two branches of Han'yan, with the main branch closed and only the 2nd and 3rd branches remaining. I had the samgyetang for 1380 yen (1080 yen during lunchtime) and a beer for 500 yen. The samgyetang was flavorful and comforting, with a generous portion and a smooth texture. It's not too spicy and has a subtle herbal taste from ingredients like garlic and Korean ginseng. The total bill came to 1830 yen (paid with PayPay). It was a satisfying meal that made me feel energized in this hot summer weather.

New Okubo Shinjuku Higashi Shinjuku Korean restaurant Korean restaurant "Hanyak Kuppaya (Kuppaya)"!! The interior of the restaurant is spacious and the beer and Chamisul are cheap!! The must-try dish is the Busan specialty pork soup "Deji Kuppap"!! I had never tried it before during my trip to Busan, so it was a new experience for me!! Late lunch is popular for solo diners. Everyone around me was having Deji Kuppap!! The Deji Kuppap, which arrived quickly, is packed with meat and the addition of somen noodles is a nice touch!! The white soup, slowly simmered with pork bones, is rich, gentle, soft, and subtly flavorful!! You can season it to your liking with Tategi (special sauce) and saeujeot (salted shrimp)!! The ginseng chicken soup is also popular. It seems like you can also get it to go. The staff is calm and friendly, and the Korean atmosphere at New Okubo is delightful. If you're in the area, it's worth visiting once a month. I would like to try the Deji Kuppap in Busan someday!!

During the time when I couldn't travel abroad for a while, I wanted to immerse myself in the feeling of traveling overseas, so I started going to Shin-Okubo every month, Nyachikon's house♪ I think the cost performance of this shop is the best in Shin-Okubo✨ Both the Busan specialty Tejikukpa and the body-friendly Samgyetang are incredibly delicious and filling, yet during lunchtime, you can get change back from 1000 yen❗️ It's really wonderful (´♡ω♡`)/ Unlike other Korean restaurants, the staff here are very friendly and capable, so even if there's a line, you'll be called up pretty quickly! The service is also fast and impeccable‼️ Both Tejikukpa and Samgyetang are offered at a special price during lunchtime, and they are exactly the same as the regular menu items at night, so lunch is super worth it‼️ While Samgyetang costs 1680 yen at night (which is already reasonable!), it's only 980 yen during lunch‼️ That's a 700 yen discount‼️ It's unbelievably generous✨ It's a highly recommended restaurant♡ It has become a favorite for Nyachikon's house as well✨

Located a 7-8 minute walk from Shin-Okubo, this restaurant was a great spot for a casual lunch meeting. I don't have photos, but here's a quick impression: I tried a dish called "Dejikuppa" for the first time, which seemed like a Korean porridge. It was a light and mildly flavored soup with rice in it. Quite delicious! The taste was gentle and not heavy, making it easy to eat. The restaurant itself was spacious, with faint hidden pictures on the walls - possibly of idols? Since it was my first time trying this dish, I can't compare it to anything else, but I can say it was simply tasty.

A Korean home-cooked meal specialty restaurant located along a street about a 10-minute walk east of Shinjuku from Shin-Okubo Station. The sign outside and on Tabelog says "Kuppaya," but "Hanyan" is written everywhere, indicating it used to be Hanyan's 3rd branch. The interior is long with tables lined up. The customers are mostly women dining in groups of 1 to 3 or 4. They offer lunch menus from 11:00 to 15:45, with various options like Samgyetang, Kuppa, Bibimbap, and stews, including cold noodles. Prices range from 880 yen to 1,080 yen. I tried the "Miso Chige for 1,080 yen" this time. The side dishes were Kakuteki, cold tofu, and bean sprout namul. The bubbling hot chige pot was served in just over 10 minutes. They warned that the rice served alongside was hotter than the pot, which was true. The chige was filled with various ingredients like small shrimp, clams, squid, tofu, cloud ear fungus, sweet potatoes, and assorted vegetables. The miso soup was mildly spicy and easy to eat, warming me up on a slightly chilly day. They accept PayPay for payment, and this restaurant was part of the 25% cashback promotion in September for selected stores in Shinjuku. The payment receipt also showed "Hanyan." I'm interested in trying their Busan pork kuppaya next time.

I walked in wanting to eat kalguksu, and luckily stumbled upon this place. It was quite crowded even in the afternoon! I ordered the popular Tejigalguksu and Samgyetang. The portions were quite generous, and the cost performance was great! I was surprised by the price and portion size in Shin-Okubo. The taste was delicious, and I was very satisfied. ✨

Busan's specialty Tejikuppa. Unlike Japan's tonkotsu, it's super light and bland. Seasoned with salt, pepper, seaweed, and kochu. The meat is served as it is, unlike Busan's thin meat which makes it much more delicious. Well, the authentic one has a lively atmosphere. It's best to eat it in the morning. The place with a huge amount of namul is very authentic.

I used it for lunch. The ginseng chicken soup is famous, so I visited the restaurant in the chilly rain. I ordered the cheese ginseng chicken soup. It was a mistake. I should have ordered the regular ginseng chicken soup. Adding cheese makes everything taste good, right? I couldn't really taste the true flavor. That was my fault. The soup had half a chicken in it. It wasn't simmered enough to make the bones crumble. The meat had a firm texture, not falling apart. The taste was a bit bland. I ended up asking for pepper. This ginseng chicken soup comes with sticky rice, so it doesn't come with regular rice. It might not be filling enough for those who eat a lot. It warmed me up, but I don't think I'll come back again.

I was surprised to find a restaurant that simply puts 5 pieces of sundae and bean sprouts in a stone pot and calls it "Sundae Kuppa". The name of the restaurant was also written as "Kuppa-ya", which was really surprising. The soup was delicious, but it was a very disappointing restaurant.

You can find Samgyetang for under 1000 yen at this restaurant. Not all Korean restaurants in the Okubo area offer Samgyetang on their menu, so it's a nice surprise when they do. It's not made with a variety of medicinal herbs or slow-cooked, but the chicken is a good size and the broth is flavorful. Personally, I found the Sundae Gukbap we ordered together to be even more delicious.

In the difficult times of being unable to escape abroad, I received some delicious-looking photos of Tejikukbap Street from my friend in Busan. I felt a strong desire to go there. I immediately contacted my doctor, Kukpayasan, with a magma-like feeling. The lunch menu has a few more options. Despite the impulse to eat Sundae Gukbap, I chose Tejikukbap, of course. Cheese Samgyetang? I thought it must be delicious. The medicine arrived. I took a sip of the soup without adding anything. The scenery of Busan came back to me. Adjusting the taste to my liking, I took a bite of the meat and added rice. Who came up with such a wonderful dish? There is a lot of pork in it, and if you ignore the local price, the cost performance is high. Next time, I'll definitely try Sundae Gukbap. I sent revenge photos to my friend from Busan ^^

The restaurant closest to Higashi-Shinjuku Station is here. It is located a few minutes from the intersection of Okubo-dori and Meiji-dori. I wanted to try Samgyetang, so I went for a late lunch. I arrived around 2:45 pm, and there were only 2 other groups of customers. I ordered Samgyetang for 980 yen and Stone Bibimbap for 980 yen. The Samgyetang had a lot of rice and a generous amount of meat. It was a bit too much for one person, so I shared it with my companion. Delicious! The Stone Bibimbap had a slightly saucy texture, so I couldn't find any crispy rice. The flavors of the namul were well balanced, and you can add as much gochujang as you like. It was delicious and all of this for under 1,000 yen is amazing value! Thank you for the meal! (´∀`*)

In mid-August 2020, to prevent summer fatigue, I went to "Kuppaya" and ordered "Samgyetang (¥980 tax included)" and "Water dumplings (¥680 tax included)". The Samgyetang, which contains ginseng and other ingredients, was hot and the soup was delicious. I added some pickled radish halfway through to change the taste... I ended up sweating a lot instead of preventing summer fatigue (^▽^;). The water dumplings had a chewy skin and a filling with vermicelli, which was also delicious.

When I went after a long time, the noodles in the Bibim Naengmyeon had changed. I wonder if it's because of the influence of the coronavirus. By the way, as a measure against infection, the dishes that used to be shared were now served in individual small plates! The garlic chive pancake was delicious! My friend, as always, showed his voracious appetite by also eating the pork soup.

I had lunch at a Korean restaurant located along Okubo Street near Shin-Okubo Station and Higashi-Shinjuku Station. I tried their recommended menu item, Busan Tejigukbap priced at 880 yen. The interior of the restaurant during lunchtime was dimly lit, creating a somewhat gloomy atmosphere. The seating is only at tables, so even if dining alone, you occupy a table for four. First, side dishes, chives, and noodles similar to somen are served. It seems you adjust the flavor with salted pollack roe. Then the Tejigukbap is served piping hot in a pot... as expected, it's bubbling. This looks promising. Once the bubbling subsides, pork appears. I add the noodles, chives, and pollack roe. I gradually increase the pollack roe while tasting it. Be careful as it is quite salty when consumed alone. Once the flavor is adjusted, I start by having the rice with the main pork and side dishes. There is an impressive amount of pork coming up from the bottom. I mix in the rice to make it into a soup. Lastly, I add kimchi to add some spice and variation in flavor. It was a satisfying dish with a substantial amount of pork and flavor variation from the pollack roe. Truly a recommended menu item.

Bibim Naengmyeon is incredibly delicious! You should definitely try it here. The Pork Kalguksu is also tasty, but you can only eat Bibim Naengmyeon here. The perfect harmony of spiciness and sweetness. Unique long noodles. You must try this different kind of cold noodles at least once!
