I visited Medaka Tantan to celebrate its 9th anniversary of its opening day. I arrived around 13:15 with the intention of avoiding the peak time, but there were only 2 seats available at the counter. Soon after, the restaurant became fully packed with customers waiting. I started with Akaboshi and 3 pieces of karaage. Having karaage with beer for lunch is just perfect. For the main dish, I ordered the recommended dish of the day, Sura Tanmen. Although it looked spicy, the taste was actually very mild. I left some soup considering my health but finished the meal. I also bought Mapo Tofu for my family as a souvenir and paid the bill. Keep up the good work aiming for the 10th anniversary!

Arrived at 12:55. Entered the restaurant without waiting outside. There are 5 seats at the counter on the first floor, and it seems there are also seats on the second floor. There was one customer before me. Orders are taken verbally at the seat, and payment is made after the meal. Seated at 12:56. Ordered a small serving of spicy tantanmen with soup for 830 yen and half fried rice for 500 yen. Received the dishes at 13:01. The spicy tantanmen consists of thin straight noodles in soup, minced meat and spicy miso, stir-fried bean sprouts and onions. The fried rice comes with plum paste and soup. The tantanmen has a creamy and spicy flavor from the combination of soy milk, sesame, spicy miso, and Sichuan pepper, making it delicious with a lingering spiciness that makes you sweat. The thin straight noodles are easy to eat with a good texture, and the unique combination in the tantanmen is very tasty. The fried rice is nicely seasoned with a good saltiness, making it very delicious and a must-have as a set.

A Chinese restaurant located on a street that passes through a worn-out residential area from the station. The counter seats on the first floor were full, so I was led to the second floor where I had to take off my shoes. I had the spicy tantanmen with soup. The mild umami flavor spread in my mouth, not just the spiciness, resulting in a refreshing and elegant finish. It was tantanmen that made me want to eat it again.

This is a famous restaurant with plenty of seats available when I visited on Sunday at 2pm. Although their signature dish is tantanmen, I decided to try their seafood ramen which has a good reputation. The soup is a seafood soy sauce base, which is lighter than it looks and very delicious, appealing to a wide range of tastes. The noodles are a good match for the soup. The cost performance is great, and I would recommend not only the tantanmen but also the seafood ramen.

After two months, I went to the gym for some strength training and treadmill workout, feeling exhausted, I hopped on the train to Higashinakano. For lunch, I went to Medaka Tantan, where I enjoyed a bowl of stick-stick chicken and a hoppy set. The owner prioritizes the orders of other customers over regulars, so I relaxed while waiting for my food. Eventually, I was served a fried rice dish with shrimp bisque, which was creamy and delicious. Today's special was a spicy summer vegetable stir-fried rice, which had a nice touch of spiciness perfect for a hot day like today. The quality of the special fried rice is always top-notch, and I have never been disappointed. Thank you as always!

Bam Bam Bungee Chilled Soba ¥1080 at Medaka TANTAN @ Higashinakagami on Sunday at Akishima Ra-Fes for the second bowl. Walked to "Medaka TANTAN" for the first time in a while. The sesame sauce has a sweet taste but not too spicy. The medium-thin curly noodles are cold and have a good chewy texture. Should have added more bang bang chicken. It has begun~♪ AKISHIMA RA-FES vol.1 [We also liven up ramen shops in Akishima City!] is a concept where 6 shops based in Akishima City provide limited ramen dishes along the theme. Each shop has put effort into creating "excitement in food"♪ This project☆ includes participating shops: ① Medaka TANTAN ② Yokohama-style ramen Shido ③ Ramen Oyamake Akishima store ④ Chinese soba Mutahiro Haji-Shima station store ⑤ Antai Noodle ⑥ Menya Dokubo. On the first day, as I happened to be traveling to Akiruno City, I visited the shop of the chairman♪ ☆★ Bang bang bungee chilled soba 1,080 yen. Topping: Chashu 380 yen. Total 1,460 yen. ☆★ I had recently seen the topping chashu on Medaka's Instagram, so I confirmed and it was OK☆, so I asked for it. Medaka's chilled ramen☆ A classic that I have been having every year♪ Actually, "Nanairo Pasta" also has a limited (whim pasta) "Shrimp and Tomato Cold Cappellini" available♪ This is also a perennial favorite☆ that I really wanted to have on this day to match my mood, but since I have to visit 6 shops in a month, I couldn't miss the chance☆, so I decided to go with the event theme! And, as expected, it was served immediately☆ The shop is very particular about the speed of service, even deploying two floor staff at the narrow counter, and having the parking lot right in front, making the stay time very short, which is a trigger for heavy repeat visits. And here it is. キタ━━━━(゚∀゚)━━━━!! It's so creamy♡ A creamy taste packed with the chairman's kindness. Delicious. Tasty. Yummy. I revisited the restaurant in July 2023 around 6:40 pm on a weekday for dinner. There were no other customers at that time. This time, at the suggestion of the owner, I asked for the chef's choice. The dishes were brought out as soon as they were ready. They know my preferences well, so I enjoyed various dishes that were not on the menu. I would like to visit again.

On July 15, 2023, at 8:36 PM, I visited Medaka Tantan in Tokai Chuo. There were two other customers in the restaurant, both enjoying alcoholic drinks. The atmosphere was nice. The restaurant has 5 counter seats, and the TV was showing Johnny's dancing at Disneyland. They offer both soupless tantanmen and tantanmen with soup, so I ordered the soup version with maximum spiciness. The presentation was impressive, raising my expectations. I decided to go easy on the spiciness as I didn't want it to overpower the flavor. The sesame-flavored tantanmen was delicious and spicy. The thin noodles were a bit too spicy when mixed with the soup. I felt like it needed more heat. Just when I was feeling a bit unsatisfied, I found out about the "soymilk version" on the menu. That must be it! The soymilk flavor was subtle but noticeable once I focused on it. The rich sesame soup had a good balance and depth. It was a new and enjoyable experience. Overall, it was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I ordered the Spicy Tantan Men in a large size with soup for 1030 yen. The dish arrived shortly after ordering. The soup was delicious at first, but the spiciness of the Tantan Men was milder than expected, probably due to the addition of soy milk. It was easy to drink and creamy. The noodles were the best part of the dish, very tasty thin noodles, although the combination with the Tantan Men was just average. The vegetables were quite ordinary, nothing special to comment on. Adding some Sichuan pepper increased the spiciness nicely. The red spicy paste didn't have much flavor, but it could be mixed into the soup to adjust the spiciness. In conclusion, it's a unique ramen dish, but I don't feel the need to visit again. The taste didn't quite live up to the hype. I tried the soup from the fourth ramen, but it was just okay.

I visited the restaurant at 13:40 on Sunday. It was my first time getting off at this station, and there were hardly any people in the shopping street in front of the station, which made me feel a bit uneasy as I walked to the restaurant. The restaurant was open and welcoming. There were no customers when I arrived, but as soon as I entered, one person, then another person, and two more groups came in. I ordered the recommended soupless tantanmen with soft-boiled egg and green onions as toppings. The green onions and soft-boiled egg were served in separate dishes first, and the main dish arrived in about 5 minutes. The toppings included tantan minced meat, greens, cabbage, and bean sprouts. The noodles were thin straight noodles. The tantan toppings had tofu in them, giving it a taste similar to mapo tofu. The spiciness was not too strong, and it could be adjusted with the chili oil, Sichuan pepper, and sliced chili peppers on the table. I tried a bite without mixing in the green onions and it was slightly spicy and delicious. The sauce was to my liking. Mixing in the green onions added a nice crunch and made it feel like I was eating a salad noodle dish. It was also very tasty. The chashu (sliced pork) was a mix of pork and chicken, which was also good. I finished it all in no time. They also have a variety of appetizers, so it seems like a great place to enjoy with drinks. Visited Medaka TANTAN in Akishima City for the first time! I wanted to try this dandan noodle shop. Unsure if I should go for soup or no soup, or something else? Arrived at 11:43 and parked in the affiliated parking lot where you get 1 hour free for purchases over 700 yen. Thank you. No wait to get in. Seated on the second floor, although there were seats available at the counter on the first floor. Annoying to take off shoes. If dining alone, the counter is sufficient. Ordered: - Dandan noodles with soup, large serving 270g for 1,030 yen - Extra seasoned boiled egg for 100 yen - Extra spiciness for 50 yen - Upgraded to half fried rice for 500 yen. Paid using PayPay. However, both outside and inside the shop are filled with Gundam figures, which might not be everyone's cup of tea. Received the bowl at 11:51: The soup contained soy milk and was creamy with a good level of spiciness. The Sichuan pepper on the table made my mouth numb and I started sweating profusely. A detoxifying bowl for sure. The noodles were thin and cooked in the soup, giving a sticky texture when eaten. Hot and spicy, so be cautious if you're not a fan of that. The mini fried rice looked plain but had plenty of chunks of pork inside and was served with soup, filling me up. Next time, I'll try the dandan noodles without soup. Thank you for the meal. Left at 12:12, spent 29 minutes in total. I visited Medaka Tantan for lunch on a regular day. I was seated on the second floor without any wait. I ordered Tanmen, Youlinji, Chaahan, and Mapo Tofu. The Tanmen was not very spicy, with thin noodles and a gentle soup that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The Youlinji had a refreshing taste similar to dressing rather than sweet and sour. Personally, I found the Mapo Tofu to be especially delicious.

At my second visit to Medaka Tantan, the restaurant was full. This time, I ordered the soup-less tantanmen. Personally, I prefer the soup-less version over the one with soup. The taste is unique, just like last time. I find myself wanting to eat here regularly, so I definitely want to come back again.

I think that people who review restaurants on Tabelog are more passionate about discovering new places than going to the same restaurant multiple times. I have been doing it for 10 years and although my enthusiasm has cooled down a bit, I still have about 500 bookmarked restaurants that I want to visit. However, there is one restaurant that I always visit at least once a month, and that is Medaka Tantan. I always start with a Hoppy set and a side dish, and finish with the chef's special fried rice. I usually pair my Hoppy with either Kiritanpo chicken or drooling chicken. The fried chicken is also delicious. In March, I tried the "Old-fashioned crab fried rice", which was moist and had a perfect balance of crab and saltiness. In April, I had the pickled vegetable fried rice, which was a reliable dish. I hope it becomes a regular menu item. And when I visited on May 20th, I tried the ginger and summer vegetable fried rice. It was a gentle and summer-appropriate dish with a hint of sweetness from the vegetables in the aftertaste. The way they adjust the seasoning to match the ingredients always impresses me.

As I walk through life from now on, I cannot help but think of the character Tantanmen, the crazy Arahashi from the manga "Korokke!" that was featured in CoroCoro Comic, whenever I taste tantanmen. This time, I visited "Medaka Tantan" in Akishima City, Tokyo. It is a ramen shop that specializes in tantanmen. The seating is limited with only 5 or 6 counter seats, so it may be best to avoid peak hours. In addition to tantanmen, they also serve dishes like mapo tofu, yurinchi, and paiko. However, my focus was on the noodles. I ordered the "Soupless Tantanmen" (large size, tax included 950 yen). Personally, I prefer soupless tantanmen over the one with soup. I was surprised to see that the noodles were thin. All the tantanmen I've had before had medium-thick noodles, so this was a fresh experience for me. The noodles were cooked just right, not too firm. They didn't break while mixing with the toppings. The spinach was cut into shorter pieces. It's best to mix the noodles and soup thoroughly before eating as the noodles are cold. Although I didn't adjust the spiciness this time, you can adjust the level of spiciness in the tantanmen. Personally, I found the default spiciness to be delicious enough.

I had the soup-less tantanmen. Today, I had a meeting in Higashinakano, Tachikawa in the afternoon, and visited this highly-rated place. The noodles were firm, the taste was a numbing spiciness, and the toppings were minimal. Overall, it was delicious. However, it felt a bit lacking and had a light taste. I think the Hakata ramen-like thin, firm noodles of the soup-less tantanmen are rare.

Mysterious restaurant. Not delicious. The soup is lukewarm and bland. Did I just happen to go on a bad day? Or is it relatively popular because there are few other dining options nearby? I don't know if the rumors are true, but I do know I won't be ordering this tantanmen again.

I visited for lunch. The JR Ome Line is not far from Higashi-Nakagami Station. The first floor of the restaurant has a counter and it looks like there is also seating on the second floor. There are Gundam-related plastic models displayed all over the kitchen and customer seating areas, showing a lot of love for them. The staff who took my order and served the food were very friendly. As the restaurant is called Medaka Tantan, I ordered the signature tantanmen noodles... I ordered the soupless tantanmen and the soy milk-based tantanmen, and also added the oil-drizzled chicken. The soupless tantanmen had a simple yet spicy flavor with a hint of Sansho pepper, while the soup-based tantanmen had a much milder taste due to the soy milk base. They were delicious, but different from the authentic tantanmen you would find in China. The oil-drizzled chicken was more like fried chicken with Italian dressing than traditional oil-drizzled chicken sauce. It was lighter and had a more Western flavor than I had imagined.

If you spend a certain amount of money or more, you can get a ticket for the parking lot across the street. I entered the restaurant around 2 pm. There were 2 people dining at the counter on the first floor, so I was guided to the second floor. I didn't have to wait long as the service was quick on the second floor. The mapo tofu tasted like a familiar home-cooked meal. The tantanmen had a gentle flavor with shredded vegetables. It felt more like a creative noodle dish rather than traditional tantanmen.

Visited Medaka, a popular spot for tantanmen, on the way back from work in Nakagami. I don't usually eat spicy food, but on a hot day, I suddenly craved it. Arrived at 12 o'clock with no wait, entered the shop. Ordered tantanmen with soup and paiko. The soup was delicious! The spiciness was mild, probably because of the soy milk. I enjoyed mixing in the tantan miso as I ate. The thin, soft noodles paired well with the tantanmen. In addition to the vegetables, I ordered extra paiko, which was delicious! It enhanced the flavor even more when soaked in the soup. The air conditioning in the shop was greatly appreciated. The owner and female staff were very friendly. Overall, I enjoyed my meal until the end! The tantanmen is described as spicy and delicious, but to me, it was more on the delicious side than spicy. After finishing the meal, my impression was, "Thank you for the feast!"
