Located in a quiet corner off the main street outside Tsukiji Market, "Onigiri Daikichi" operates discreetly. I visited during the slightly early hours before 10 am on a weekday. When it comes to onigiri in Tsukiji, "Onigiri-ya Marutoyo" is well-known, but this newcomer also emphasizes a homemade feel. A specialty rice shop in Toyosu carefully selects the rice for their proud onigiri. The location is near the Hama-Jo Inari Shrine in the area where wholesale fishmongers are lined up, with an illustration of onigiri on a green curtain. The lineup on the silver plate consists of only onigiri, with 10 varieties, each a large size of 200g, making it a tough decision with handwritten menus. The ones I tried on this day were as follows:
- Silver Salmon: 250 yen
- Clam Tsukudani: 250 yen
I started with the popular No. 1 choice, the Silver Salmon. The moistness felt through the plastic wrap and the fluffy salmon inside spread evenly throughout the large onigiri, ensuring a solid taste of salmon in every bite. The flavor was just right with a hint of saltiness, spreading the deliciousness of the salmon softly on the rice. Next was the Clam Tsukudani. Although only a few clams were visible, there was a much greater amount hidden inside, offering a strong texture in each bite and a rich sweet taste that blossoms as you chew. Enjoying the taste by blending it with the rice, the delicious Tsukudani accentuated the gradation of flavors on the rice. Both onigiri had plenty of rice and generous fillings, providing a satisfying eating experience. A hidden gem in the Tsukiji outer market, offering a simple yet homemade warmth. Although they were sold out on the day of my visit, I heard that they have a recommended "Tempura" onigiri, so be sure to check it out. They open from 7:30 am, so early hours offer a variety of choices.

"Hidden gem 'Onigiri Daikichi' opened in Tsukiji near the Hama-cho Shrine. Located along a street towards the back when coming from Monzennakacho Street. Although their base is in Toyosu, they started selling in Tsukiji from January. Visited around 9:00 am on a weekday. Despite just opening in January, it seems to be quite popular as there were only a few left. Unfortunately, the salmon onigiri I wanted was sold out! The average price seems to be around 250 yen, but this time I tried the 350 yen silver cod with Saikyo miso. It was quite big! The onigiri, made by the female owner herself from midnight to morning, around 100 pieces a day, had a great harmony between the seaweed and rice. And it was generously filled with ingredients. I thought the onigiri, filled with the owner's love, would be big, but it disappeared in an instant because the rice was delicious too. You can also place an order in advance through the store's Line account. They open around 7:30 am and close around 12:00 pm. However, they close once sold out. A hidden gem onigiri shop in Tsukiji."
