The most buzzworthy lunch spot in Ginza right now is here! This sukiyaki specialty restaurant is operated by a long-established Ginza butcher shop founded in 1924. I arrived around 10:30 on the weekend and was the 10th in line! I was able to enter as soon as they opened at 11:00. Despite having over 100 seats, it quickly filled up! This time, I was here for the "sukiyaki set meal" priced at 1,650 yen, which has been getting a lot of attention thanks to an influencer's post. Everyone around me also ordered the same thing, haha! The sukiyaki is served in a hot iron pot, along with rice, miso soup, small side dishes, pickles, raw egg, and a grapefruit for dessert. The piping hot sukiyaki arrived soon after, bubbling away. In addition to beef, it includes shirataki noodles, fu (wheat gluten), long green onions, and plenty of onions. The beef used in the service lunch is what is known as offcuts, but it has a rich flavor and good texture. The taste is on the strong side, but when you dip it in the egg with onions, it balances out nicely and makes the rice go down smoothly. The rice portion is quite generous, but in the end, I poured the egg soaked in sauce over the rice to make a tamago kake gohan (egg over rice) and finished it all. A carefully cut grapefruit for dessert leaves a refreshing finish. The service from the staff is very polite, as expected from a long-established restaurant. When I left, there was an unbelievably long line, probably around 80 people. According to reviews, some people waited for 2.5 hours. The hamburger steak, which was previously a hit, seems to be on hiatus? Has it become a thing of the past? I would like to go try the "phantom" hamburger steak lunch when things calm down! However, with the arrival of the fall appetite, sukiyaki is even more delicious. I wonder if this lunch line will continue for a while.
