In the morning, I finished work in Monzen-Nakacho and luckily had some free time, so I decided to visit Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine for the first time in a few years. I also got a Goshuin (shrine stamp) while I was there. Monzen-Nakacho... where can I find a delicious lunch? Today's lunch was at Tonkatsu Maruichi Fukagawa Fudodo, a place I had been wanting to try for a while. I didn't expect to be able to eat there today, so I was very excited when I arrived at the restaurant around 12:10 pm. There were 20 people in front of me and 5 people behind me, all sweating in the scorching heat. The restaurant provided cold barley tea as a service, as well as loaning out umbrellas to help with the strong sunlight. It was a nice gesture in the hot weather. While waiting in line, the staff handed out menus and took orders, which I really liked. About 15 minutes later, I was seated and ordered the following: - Yaki Katsu Donburi (small portion) - Katsu Sandwich to go The seating area had a sushi counter-like feel with around 14 seats. The kitchen and the service staff, about 4 to 5 people, were working hard. Everyone looked clean and professional, leaving a good impression. When I sat down, chopsticks, pickles, barley tea, and wet towels were already prepared. After a short wait, my meal arrived. The portion size was just right, not too overwhelming. The meat was incredibly thick, about 4 centimeters, almost like ham. It was very tender and flavorful, especially with the sauce and condiments provided. The egg on top of the rice was half-cooked and went well with the sauce and pickles. I felt like I could go to this restaurant just for this dish alone. The miso soup was red miso with clams, offering a gentle flavor to balance out the richness of the meal. On certain days, if you ask the staff, you can get a complimentary ginger tartar sauce, which was a nice touch. The meal was so filling that I struggled to finish it all, but it was worth it. I might go for a smaller portion next time. The service was efficient, and I left the restaurant in about 30 minutes. As I left, there were still around 10 people waiting to be seated. The volume of food was impressive, and just looking at it made me feel full. I have work in Monzen-Nakacho again next month, and I'm already thinking about stopping by this restaurant again. It's located near the 1st exit of the Tozai Line, right along the road towards Fukagawa Fudodo. It's very convenient to get to from the station.
