In the morning, I finished work in Monzen-Nakacho and luckily had some free time, so I decided to visit Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine for the first time in a few years. I also got a Goshuin (shrine stamp) while I was there. Monzen-Nakacho... where can I find a delicious lunch? Today's lunch was at Tonkatsu Maruichi Fukagawa Fudodo, a place I had been wanting to try for a while. I didn't expect to be able to eat there today, so I was very excited when I arrived at the restaurant around 12:10 pm. There were 20 people in front of me and 5 people behind me, all sweating in the scorching heat. The restaurant provided cold barley tea as a service, as well as loaning out umbrellas to help with the strong sunlight. It was a nice gesture in the hot weather. While waiting in line, the staff handed out menus and took orders, which I really liked. About 15 minutes later, I was seated and ordered the following: - Yaki Katsu Donburi (small portion) - Katsu Sandwich to go The seating area had a sushi counter-like feel with around 14 seats. The kitchen and the service staff, about 4 to 5 people, were working hard. Everyone looked clean and professional, leaving a good impression. When I sat down, chopsticks, pickles, barley tea, and wet towels were already prepared. After a short wait, my meal arrived. The portion size was just right, not too overwhelming. The meat was incredibly thick, about 4 centimeters, almost like ham. It was very tender and flavorful, especially with the sauce and condiments provided. The egg on top of the rice was half-cooked and went well with the sauce and pickles. I felt like I could go to this restaurant just for this dish alone. The miso soup was red miso with clams, offering a gentle flavor to balance out the richness of the meal. On certain days, if you ask the staff, you can get a complimentary ginger tartar sauce, which was a nice touch. The meal was so filling that I struggled to finish it all, but it was worth it. I might go for a smaller portion next time. The service was efficient, and I left the restaurant in about 30 minutes. As I left, there were still around 10 people waiting to be seated. The volume of food was impressive, and just looking at it made me feel full. I have work in Monzen-Nakacho again next month, and I'm already thinking about stopping by this restaurant again. It's located near the 1st exit of the Tozai Line, right along the road towards Fukagawa Fudodo. It's very convenient to get to from the station.

On the weekend, I arrived at a popular restaurant 30 minutes before opening, thinking that there wouldn't be a long line. However, there were already about 30 people ahead of me. By the time they opened at 11:30, there were around 80 people waiting in line! While waiting, they took our orders, and I finally sat down around 12:30 and had my meal around 12:45. It's best to be prepared for long waits when visiting on weekends. The menu included regular pork cutlet (150g), pork cutlet (300g), and premium rib roast cutlet (300g). The premium option was sold out by 12:30. Since I knew I couldn't finish the 300g portion, I chose the regular one. I asked for less rice and extra egg instead. When the dish arrived, I was surprised by the generous portion even with less rice. The fluffy egg on top of the crispy cutlet was delicious, especially with the sweet sauce. The fatty part was recommended to eat first before it cooled down. I also tried a piece of the rib roast from my husband, and it had a stronger meaty flavor compared to the regular cutlet. The meat was incredibly tender, and the crispy coating was perfect. I understood why there was a long line for this place. Even with the regular portion, I got extremely full, so be careful not to overeat. By the way, we were wondering about the term "焼きカツ丼" (yakikatsudon, grilled cutlet rice bowl) since the cutlet was fried. The staff kindly explained that it refers to the grilled egg and cutlet on top of the rice. I would definitely consider revisiting this place in the future. Visit rating: 3.52

Maru Shichigatsu Jima Shop was closed, so I visited Fukagawa Fudo Shop. I saw Fukagawa Fudo Shop around 10:30, and there were already about 3 people lined up. 30 minutes before opening, the line had grown to about 30 people. If you want to eat in the first round, you need to line up before 1 hour before opening. While waiting, the menu was handed out and orders were taken. It was my first time, so I ordered the regular size as I wasn't confident I could finish it. Adding triple eggs costs an extra ¥100, and the rice with extra sauce is normal. There are only counter seats available. The katsudon arrived within a few minutes of sitting down. The regular size may not look impressive, but it is enough for women and men with small appetites. The eggs are fluffy and creamy. You don't need to order extra sauce because there is sauce available on the counter at all times. There are also plenty of condiments for you to enjoy different flavors. This might be my favorite katsudon. Thank you for the meal.

This restaurant is always crowded with people lining up for their famous thick cutlet rice bowl. Despite being a tonkatsu restaurant, it only has 14 seats, so the turnover is pretty quick. I went for lunch on a weekday and arrived just before opening time at 11:30 am. I managed to sneak in for the first round at around 10:55 am. I ordered the special cutlet rice bowl with a 300g rib loin cutlet. Many customers seemed to prefer extra sauce, but I opted for the regular amount as I found it too sweet in the past. Now, onto my thoughts - this cutlet rice bowl is unlike any I've had before! The tenderness of the meat, the fluffy egg, and the perfect balance of flavors in the sauce. Honestly, I underestimated its popularity based on looks alone. It was delicious! I definitely want to go back, but I have to warn you, the 300g portion is no joke. I managed to finish it, but the spiciness lingered until the evening. If you're not confident in your appetite, I recommend asking for less rice.

I started lining up at 11:15 for the restaurant that opened at 11:30 (there were already many people in line), and I was seated at the counter about an hour and a half later. The food was served in about 10 minutes... I waited for the Yakiniku Donburi (large) priced at 2100 yen, and it was worth it! It was voluminous and delicious!

I randomly walked into a tonkatsu restaurant and was drawn to the very thick katsudon. I ordered the top-quality pork cutlet. The 300g thick cutlet overflowing from the bowl was impressive. The thickness was beyond the first joint of my finger. The sweetness of the fat on both ends of the pork loin was good, with less sweetness in the middle. Enjoyed different flavors with stem wasabi, sulfur salt, and shichimi. The fluffy and creamy egg paired well with the sweet sauce. The rice was firm and went well with the sauce. Finished with clam red dashi and pickles for a refreshing taste. Ah, it was delicious! A blissful moment. Thank you! I bow my head and say, "Thank you for the meal." Ebisu finish.

The restaurant serves thick-cut meat katsudon without egg on top. Despite the long line, the turnover of customers is slow, resulting in a lengthy wait for the food to be served. The portions are generous, making it a challenge for individuals to finish their meal quickly. The katsudon is priced at ¥1600 for a regular size and ¥2100 for a large size. The meat is fatty and the sauce is bland, which may lead to flavor fatigue. Overall, the experience may not live up to the hype, especially compared to other similar restaurants offering a more balanced and delicious katsudon at a lower price.

I arrived before 2 pm on a weekday and found that there were already nearly 10 people waiting inside and outside the restaurant. It took about 30 minutes to be seated. When I ordered the katsu, a very thick piece of katsu was served. It was delicious, but I started to get a little tired of it halfway through. It might be too much for those with a small appetite, so be cautious. I'm not sure if it's worth comparing, but I was able to eat without getting tired at a certain restaurant in Nihonbashi, so just for reference.

I arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes before it opened, but there was already a line of about 20 people. I couldn't get in right after it opened, so I had to wait for the second round to enter. The menu offered tonkatsu in three levels: regular, premium, and special premium, with the difference being the type of meat used in the special premium. I started with the regular tonkatsu. It had a modest flavor but was delicious and easy to eat. The portion size was huge, so I got a bit tired of it towards the end. There were condiments for flavor variation, but none of them really suited my taste. I thought it would have been great if I could have added more sauce. I would like to try the special premium next time.

Overview This restaurant serves the thickest tonkatsu bowl in Japan. Ordered Item: "Tonkatsu Bowl (large)" for 1,800 yen. Crowdedness: On weekends at 10:30 AM, waited in line for 80 minutes. Atmosphere: Arrived an hour before opening to find 20 people already in line. By opening time, there were over 50 people waiting. The restaurant has a counter with 14 seats, with the best view being in the center where you can see the tonkatsu being cut. Menu: Ordered the large tonkatsu bowl with a thick 300g cutlet. Opted for a regular portion of rice as the large seemed like a daunting amount. The cutlet was thick but tender due to pre-cooking, with a delicate and crispy breading. The condiments of wasabi and salt on the table allowed for flavor variation without getting bored. While the tonkatsu may steal the show, the egg was also beautifully presented and delicious. Overall, a satisfying meal.

I went to Marushichi Fukagawa Fudo store. The main store in Monzen-Nakacho is for takeout only, so be careful ⚠️ I arrived 30 minutes before 11 o'clock, and at that time there were 5 people waiting. But by around 11:30, there were probably 20-30 people waiting. The line was so long that some people gave up. It's recommended to go around 11 o'clock. There were free parasols and cold tea available in front of the store, which was really nice. As soon as I entered the store, the food was served. The pork cutlet itself was very thick and quite tender, and there was a lot of it. On the table, there were wasabi and yuzu pepper, so you could refresh your palate or change the taste, which was nice. The experience exceeded my expectations, so I am very satisfied!

Maru-nana's katsudon, which became a hot topic on social media, features a unique dish called "tojinai yaki katsudon." The menu offers pork loin in regular and large sizes, as well as premium rib loin. They also offer katsu sandwiches for takeout. The regular size is 150g, while the large and premium sizes are 300g. You can choose from three sizes of rice: large, medium, or small. I waited in line on a Sunday around 12:30 pm for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. While waiting in line, they provided self-service cold tea and loaned out umbrellas. The ordering style is to take your order while waiting in line. The food comes out quickly once you enter the restaurant, so there is no waiting inside. In addition to the katsudon, they also serve miso soup and pickles. I ordered the regular and large sizes. The tojinai yaki katsudon has a half-cooked egg and sweet sauce on top of the katsudon. The tonkatsu was a bit fatty on the edges, but less fatty in the middle, making it easy to eat. The rice was slightly soft. There was stem wasabi on the table, which had a refreshing spiciness that I enjoyed.

Maru-nana is a must-visit for those who love crispy tonkatsu. I waited in line for about an hour since it was less crowded that day. I ordered the regular size tonkatsu with a moderate thickness and less rice. Even though it was described as moderate thickness, it was about 5cm thick. I was advised to eat the fatty part while it's hot, so I started with that. The hot fatty part paired with fresh wasabi was amazing. The sauce on the tonkatsu was slightly sweet, which made it easy to eat with the rice. I started feeling full halfway through, so I ended up taking the remaining tonkatsu home. Next time, I've decided to order the regular size tonkatsu with less rice.

I was drawn to this restaurant by the photos posted by everyone. I went around 3 PM on a weekday and there were about 10 people ahead of me in line. The wait wasn't too bad. The pork cutlet bowl was amazing. The cutlet was thick and I was impressed by it. It was fatty and sweet, and the balance of the light sauce and rice was perfect. I would definitely wait in line again to eat this.

Arrived on a rainy Saturday morning in July around 10:00 am. Despite the store opening at 11:30 am, there were already three people in line. Luckily, the first 5-6 people could sit on chairs under the eaves, so they didn't have to wait in the rain with umbrellas. Around 10:45 am, there were about 10-15 people in line, even though it was raining. The store opened promptly at 11:30 am, and orders were taken outside. I ordered the Special Pork Cutlet Bowl for 2400 yen (tax included) with regular rice portion. It was served in less than 5 minutes after being seated. The pork cutlet was incredibly thick, topped with a half-cooked fluffy egg and a sweet soy sauce. The cutlet was very tender, with a soft coating. The meat was juicy and incredibly sweet. The egg was excellent, perfectly complementing the sweet sauce. The condiments on the table, such as shichimi pepper, wasabi stems, sulfur salt, and yuzu pepper, allowed for flavor variations. The sulfur salt paired well with the cutlet. The pickles and miso soup with clams were also delicious. I finished my meal in about 10 minutes and when I left at 11:45 am, there was a long line of about 50 people. The Special Pork Cutlet Bowl is limited in quantity, so it's best to arrive early and plan ahead.

I visited during lunchtime on a regular day. There were about 30 people lined up 15 minutes before the opening. Just after 12:00, there were about 20 more people lined up behind me, and at that point, they were sold out. There are samples in the showcase that show the sizes of regular, large, and extra-large, which is helpful. I ordered the regular size pork cutlet bowl (1300 yen). Since it's an open-faced cutlet bowl, the breading remained crispy, and it felt more like eating a tonkatsu set meal on top of rice. It has a simple composition, so personally, I found the regular size (150g pork loin) to be just the right amount without getting tired of it. The sweet sauce goes well with the rice, and the abundant fat around the edges also had a sweet flavor and was delicious. The miso soup with clams was unexpectedly tasty as well, so overall, I was satisfied. It was worth the wait in line.

The regular size is 1300 yen more, but it has a lot of fat. So I asked for less rice in the regular size. As a result, I ended up with a normal katsudon with extra toppings. I arrived around 10:50 on a rainy weekday and I was the 14th person in line, which was the last person in the first round. By the time they opened, there were about 30 people waiting in line. Personally, if I had to wait in line, I would prefer to go to Mizuto.

I watched a movie in Kiba, so I wanted to go to Tonkatsu Maruichi Fukagawa Fudoten in Monzen-Nakacho for lunch. The special "yakikatsu-don" was sold out, so I got the regular one instead. Look at this thick cutlet! It's juicy and has a great texture to bite into. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Today, I decided to have my favorite dish, katsudon. I chose a katsudon with no egg on top, but with the cutlet placed on rice. There is a similar katsudon in Nihonbashi, but I decided to go here. Despite it being a weekday, the place was very crowded even before opening. I waited for about 40-50 minutes before entering the restaurant. I ordered the grilled pork cutlet rice bowl with 300g of meat. The first thing that caught my attention was the size - it looked huge and satisfying. As for the taste, it was delicious. The cutlet was crispy, and the meat was very thick. It felt more like eating a tonkatsu than a katsudon. The cutlet had a sweet soy sauce glaze on top. The egg was placed underneath. It's more of a dry katsudon rather than a moist one. It's a matter of preference, so you should try it at least once. Also, please note that the main store only offers takeout. When I arrived at around 11:15 am on a weekday, there was a long line with about 20 people waiting, so I had to wait for the second round. It's quite crowded.
