It was just a regular? authentic bar! I fell asleep at a table seat (lol), so I was surprised when the appetizer turned out to be cheesecake?! It brought back a nostalgic feeling of something I've been eating since I was a child. I missed out on that one, but I had a glass of Scotch before leaving. "Sumika," a bar in Azabu-Juban that has a 13-year history. The cozy atmosphere is set by dim lighting and a red counter. Behind the counter, two young bartenders quietly work, surrounded by shelves filled with bottles of alcohol. They serve drinks with a perfect balance of distance and hospitality. The first layer in a thin glass is a square ice cube, followed by two more ice cubes placed together, forming a perfect shape when stirred with a swizzle stick. They can create delicious drinks tailored to your preferences. Even a highball, usually not my choice, tastes magically delicious with a sweet apple-like finish. "Sumika" is a wonderful place with an outstanding location that enhances the taste of your drinks. It's a hidden gem for adults to unwind and reset after a long day at work.

On July 10, 2019, I went to "BAR Suika" in Nishi-Azabu for drinks and food. Located about a 4-minute walk from Azabu-Juban Station, this shot bar is open until 5 am (midnight on Sundays) and has a nice adult atmosphere. The master runs the place alone, serving both drinks and food. We were the only customers, which was nice. We enjoyed cocktails, whiskey, and delicious dishes like anchovy sautéed green vegetables, fried new potatoes, and a steak. The highlight was the creamy pasta with milk and miso sauce. Overall, it was a great experience, but we were surprised by the bill at the end.笑

Near the intersection of Torii-zaka, there is an underground bar with a slightly dim atmosphere, featuring a counter and sofa seats, creating an adult vibe. The ambiance made me crave for rock music and whiskey, so I enjoyed sipping on a single malt. I got quite drunk and couldn't remember the brand. It seems like the darkness makes you get drunk faster.

There was still some time left after the event ended at 22:30 at the main gate. So, I decided to take the Oedo Line from Shibakoen, and the second stop happened to be Azabu-Juban. I got off there and found a bar around Toriizaka that had a very traditional feel with a bar counter at the back filled with all kinds of bottles. The atmosphere was cozy with tables and sofas, and I couldn't help but notice the impressive collection of bottles. I had a nice chat with the knowledgeable bartender and ended up trying a delicious single malt from one of the casks they had. It was so good that I felt like enjoying a cigar, and when I asked, they even had those available. It was a fun night out!

It's great that there is a bar open on Sundays around Asakusa. They have been open on Sundays for about half a year now. Goto-san, a young bartender who is good at chatting, runs the bar by himself on Sundays. He prefers to stick to the classics rather than the trendy mixology. When asked about his specialty cocktail, he mentioned a whiskey highball (although he is currently experimenting with making Manhattans). I was impressed. The Old Fashioned he made was truly delicious. It brought out the sweetness and aroma of the bourbon perfectly. I will definitely come back.

The second bartender here is a young woman who exudes a sharp and somewhat unfriendly vibe, but she is delicate and skilled at making beautiful cocktails. Despite her lack of charm, she seems to enjoy making drinks, even something as simple as a watered-down whiskey. This balance of strength and delicacy may come from the owner's influence, as they both share a love for alcohol. Enjoying the process of making and drinking cocktails adds to the overall experience.

This place is a must-visit.

A place in Asakusa where you can leisurely drink until morning. The cocktails were also delicious.

Authentic bar. The drinks are average, but the appetizers are good. They make unreasonable requests to customers. It was the first time I experienced something like this at a bar, so I won't be going back in the future.
