Night after night, I take a stroll to Higashi-Nakano for some shopping. After getting the necessary items at Summit Higashi-Nakano store, I make a detour to browse for some treats here. As usual, there are plenty of delicious tarts lined up. But, I quickly spot items with discount tags! It's like a gift from the heavens, with 50% off on selected items. And to top it off, the pudding is on sale for 2 for 400 yen! Even more value for money than half price, it almost feels like I'm taking advantage of the situation. The foreign staff member serving us smiles and greets us warmly, despite our penny-pinching ways. "Please come again," she says as we leave. Yes, we definitely will! Back at home, I enjoy some side dishes with my evening drink. The next day, I indulge in the pudding for a snack.
- Prosciutto and Soft-Boiled Egg Jelly: A dish where a soft-boiled egg is wrapped in prosciutto, served with vegetables in a consommé jelly. The vegetables include finely diced carrots and spinach. Packed in a sealed plastic cup, this intricate side dish is surprisingly affordable. The gentle sweetness of the vegetables, the creamy texture of the soft-boiled egg, and the savory flavor of the prosciutto are perfectly balanced by the consommé jelly. A truly delicious dish that suits my taste perfectly!
- Custard Pudding: With a caramel-like aroma and a subtle hint of acidity, the caramel topping is quite overpowering, almost masking the gentle flavor of the pudding underneath.
- Honey Pudding: Without the characteristic bitterness of honey, this pudding pairs seamlessly with the custard. It's my first time trying a honey pudding, and it's surprisingly natural, combining the best of both worlds in a delicious way. The pudding itself is similar to the custard pudding, milky and soft, yet not lacking in texture or depth of flavor. The honey serves as a caramel substitute, and it works wonderfully! I had planned on trying the coffee-flavored choux based on another reviewer's recommendation, but I couldn't resist the discounted items. It turned out to be a delicious choice, and I couldn't help but smile at my decision.
