I had mistakenly thought the steamed chicken would be served cold, but it was warm with lettuce underneath. It was a main dish with plenty of broth. After a while, the main dish of pork and wood ear mushroom with egg stir-fry, rice, soup, almond jelly, and a small side of pickles arrived. The lunch menu seems to include freshly ground coffee for free, with free refills of rice and soup. I confirmed with the staff, and they said it was true. The main dish consisted of pork belly, wood ear mushrooms, eggs, carrots, bamboo shoots, komatsuna (Japanese mustard spinach), shimeji mushrooms, onions, and baby corn, all generously included. The flavor was strong but delicious, and the rice went well with it. Refills of rice were self-service from the rice cooker. The pickles were a small portion of daikon radish and carrots, which I found a bit lacking compared to the pickled mustard greens at the 2nd store. The coffee was made with freshly ground beans using a self-service machine where you press a button to dispense it into a mug. I appreciated being able to enjoy coffee after the meal. Payment was accepted in cash as well as with PayPay, which is offering up to a 20% cashback promotion at participating stores from December 1, 2022 to February 28, 2023. Of course, I paid with PayPay. I was satisfied with the meal, thank you!

A Chinese restaurant near Akasaka Station. It seems to be a hidden gem. First of all, the lunch here is very cheap and a great deal. For 500 yen, you get mapo tofu, rice, soup, and all-you-can-drink coffee. Definitely worth a visit. Just don't expect too much from the service.

There are three branches in Akasaka alone, and usually we go to the second branch, but this time we decided to visit the third branch located right near Akasaka Station. The spacious interior of the restaurant was surprising as we entered. There are about 200 seats including private rooms. Since it was late on a weekday, there were hardly any other customers. We ordered a highball for 99 yen as they were having a special campaign that day, which was a great deal considering it's usually 390 yen. For appetizers, we ordered stir-fried bean sprouts and mapo tofu. The stir-fried bean sprouts had a rich flavor typical of Chinese cuisine, enhanced by the aroma of garlic. The mapo tofu here is not too spicy by default, but we asked the staff to make it spicier this time. It was still very easy to eat and had a flavor that would appeal to many. At 390 yen each, these dishes were definitely worth it. Overall, this restaurant is cheap, delicious, and personally, I highly recommend it! I would have loved to try their fried rice or noodles, but it was late at night so I refrained. However, if you have the chance, definitely try them as well! The food is not only delicious but also very affordable. Despite the low rating on Tabelog, I find this place to be a favorite of mine due to its excellent cost performance.

My friend recommended the "Pickled Mustard Greens and White Fish Soup," which is a dish from the original country. It's called "Suan Cai Yu." I ordered the "Pickled Mustard Greens and White Fish Soup" for 850 yen (tax included). I asked for it to be spicy. It came in a large bowl with white fish, pickled mustard greens, green onions, and chili peppers. The soup was a milky white color. In Sichuan and Hunan cuisine, they usually use freshwater fish from rivers, but since we're in Japan, they used ocean fish. The pickled mustard greens didn't have a strong salty taste, but it had a pleasant sourness and the nice flavor of the chili peppers. The spiciness kicks in later. It was really spicy! The white fish was fresh and flavorful. It's like a Sichuan-style hot and sour soup with pickles and fish. It was a unique dish that you don't often find for lunch, and it was really good. You can ask them to adjust the spiciness if you prefer.

The flavor is very rich, making the rice disappear quickly, so you might need to refill your rice to finish the side dishes. Overall, it's a decent option if you want to eat cheaply and get full, especially before the discounted period ends at the end of next month.
