Arrived at Ueno Station. What should I eat? I did some warm-up with dried snacks and beer (Sapporo Black Label long can) on the Shinkansen. Maybe I should drink a little more! Headed to "Ueno Yabu Soba". Arrived a little before 8 pm and found a seat at the counter. - Kikumasamune ¥736 Hot sake - Wasabi potato ¥793 Soba soup with Chiba-grown Yamato potatoes and Hon Wasabi. Had the "soba miso" with hot sake and then the "wasabi potato", so delicious. Soba today is the Curry Soba ¥1,202. The curry broth was really tasty, and the soba was of course delicious too. Superb! I still have the "wasabi potato" left, but I managed to eat the Tororo Soba as well, so I feel like I got a good deal. About 20 years ago, I used to love the "Curry Soba" at a soba restaurant near Yasukuni Shrine called "O". Eating only "Curry Soba" at "Ueno Yabu" may not be very chic, but it's so delicious.

I wanted to have a leisurely lunch, so I went to Yabusoba. I had beer and sake. For snacks, I had tamagoyaki, mentaiko, and grilled anago. The anago was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with a delicious plum flavor. It went well with the sake. The mentaiko was perfectly seared, providing a great texture and flavor that complemented the drinks. I also had warm tororo soba and duck seiro soba, and as expected, enjoying soba slowly with a drink is the best way to savor it. The price was a bit high, but I left satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

Two glasses of draft beer and curry-nanban soba with extra noodles came out to 1202 yen, plus an additional 357 yen for the extra noodles. I couldn't resist trying the curry-nanban soba again. The noodles were soft and the duck was crispy. The curry was incredibly delicious. The apron provided was a nice touch. The hand towel was fluffy, as expected from a high-end traditional restaurant. There were many tourists from China. I might become a regular here. Next time, I want to try the plum wine. The soup was so good that I finished it all. The restaurant was clean. Thank you for the meal!

I had the Duck Seiro and my husband had the Tempura Seiro in large portions, and it was delicious! There were a few foreign customers. Lately, whenever I passed by this restaurant, there was always a long line, but on Sunday afternoon, September 10th, there was no line at all! If there had been a line, we were planning to go to the Yabu in Ueno Parco-ya. It was so delicious!

I finally visited "Ueno Yabu Soba" on Friday around 6 pm, a place I had wanted to visit for many years. When I arrived, there was only one customer on the first floor. The staff welcomed me and let me choose any seat, so I chose a seat at the back of the L-shaped counter. The beer was delicious, although I limited myself to two glasses due to the price. Both the tempura and soba noodles were excellent. I definitely want to visit again. The service was top-notch, with the staff always attentive but not overly intrusive. Next time, I want to try the popular curry soba dish!

"Ueno Yabu Soba" Before I knew it, I found myself standing in front of what I once believed to be the best soba restaurant in Tokyo, Ueno Yabu. Through the lattice, I could see the bustling counter, where it seemed like they could tolerate a lone guy like me. Despite wanting to avoid drinking at soba restaurants because it can be expensive, I decided to order the "Mizore" and "Mentaiko" tonight. The staff seemed like people I was seeing for the first time tonight, but they were focused on the customers. The fact that their judgment hasn't regained the superb skills from over 10 years ago doesn't seem like a problem at all. In fact, the enemy for me was the grilled shiitake mushrooms that were boldly sitting in the Mentaiko, but I quickly devoured them without any resistance. After sterilizing my mouth with the sherbet-like clear liquid, I felt satisfied. The restaurant was now full, and it seemed like the staff were starting to manage the traffic, but if you were at the counter, you could keep drinking without worrying. The guy sitting alone at the back table, who had ordered the "Tamagoyaki," seemed a bit pitiful. He even complained about the soy sauce being already on it, which is the beauty of Japanese soba restaurants! I actually like putting soy sauce on sweet tamagoyaki like the one you'd find in a regular bento box, but... As the party picked up, I caught glimpses of the familiar faces in the restaurant. Suddenly, I found myself ordering the "Natto Kishimen." The natto in the large bowl was mixed with grated yam, and the nori and shiso were accents. Adding the black broth and mixing it with the white flat noodles created a dramatic effect. As I immersed myself in that drama, the intro of "Tsugaru Kojo" started playing again, and I felt like I was just watching the scene unfold as if it were someone else's story. [Today's Menu] - Mizore Soba @ 759 *3 - Mentaiko @ 821 - Tamagoyaki @ 910 - Natto Kishimen @ 1,166 Total: 5,174 yen.

I ordered the Tororo Soba for 1166 yen. The restaurant has a history of 130 years since 1882. The staff were very polite and made me feel calm. The soba noodles were made with 80% buckwheat flour and had a firm texture. They were delicious on their own. I mixed the thick soup with grated mountain yam and enjoyed slurping it up. Finally, I had some soba broth to finish off the meal. It was a delightful experience. Edo-style soba has three main varieties: Yabu, Sarashina, and Kanda. Yabu is known for its rich flavor and thick soup, which perfectly complements the noodles. Ah, yes, that's exactly what I had. It was delicious.

A soba restaurant located less than 10 minutes from Ueno Station. Even during lunchtime, I was able to enter without waiting. They accept payment in cash and some electronic payments like cards. There are seats on the first and second floors, so I think they have a good number of seats. I ordered the Curry Duck Nanban. It was served in less than 10 minutes. The curry had a thick consistency that coated the soba well, so it was very satisfying! There was a generous amount of duck, so it was surprisingly filling. It was delicious, thank you for the meal! This time I had the Curry Nanban, but next time I want to try the seiro. Thank you for the meal!

When it comes to the three major soba noodles, they are Yabu, Sarashina, and Sunaba. The three famous Yabu soba noodles are Namiki Yabu Soba, Kandayabu Soba, and Ike no Hata Yabu Soba, but I have visited the first two. The last one, Ike no Hata Yabu Soba, has already closed down, so I have not visited it. In that case, which place will be newly added to the current three famous soba noodles? This time, I visited Ueno Yabu Soba for the first time, which has a history dating back to around 130 years since the Meiji era. It is a venerable long-established store even if it is not included in the three famous soba noodles. It was too hot to walk outside for a long time, so I thought it would be nice to walk slowly in a cool indoor space such as an art museum or a museum, so I went to the National Museum for the first time in about a year. It seems that the exhibits cannot be seen all at once, and they occasionally change the exhibits. It is okay to pass by things that are not of interest and only look at what you like. I went to Ueno Yabu Soba before this. When I arrived in front of the store, about 10 people were waiting under the scorching sun. I was hesitant about what to do, but this is a small soba noodle shop in a single building. I concluded that the turnover rate would be fast and lined up. There was a Taiwanese patch on the backpack of the person in front of me. They are tourists. It seems that they are enjoying their trip to Japan with their family. I felt a little strange that even foreigners eat soba noodles, not just ramen. But it is a very good thing if they think it is delicious. After waiting for about 20 minutes, I sat at the counter on the first floor. Normally, I would order the Tenseiro soba noodles, but I heard that the curry soba noodles were a specialty of this shop, so I ordered a large serving of that. Eating soba noodles with curry is not common, but not unheard of. The soba noodles were just right in a large serving. I dipped the slightly greenish soba noodles in the curry broth and ate them. Yes, it was very delicious. They also provided paper napkins to prevent splashing. I ate the duck meat and green onions that were in the broth separately. The texture of the duck meat was excellent. I was extremely satisfied. The waitress who carefully attended to the customers in the store was also very pleasant. It was clear right away that she was attentive and considerate to the customers. Suitable for a long-established store. Since Tokyo will not be my final resting place, I want to enjoy as many long-established stores as possible while I live here. That's what I experienced. After the meal, I walked from the statue of Saigo on the side of Ueno Park towards the north to the National Museum. The sweat didn't stop flowing...

After leaving the doctor's office, I had to choose between Gotanda Chinman or Ueno Torafuku for dinner. The elderly prefer soba noodles, so I decided to start with soba noodles. I ordered a beer and soba shochu with soba noodles in hot water, topped with egg tofu. The soba miso cucumber was not as delicious as last time - it must be out of season. The sweet soba miso went well with the cucumber. In the end, I couldn't decide between steamed soba noodles or curry soba, but I went with the steamed soba noodles because I was wearing a white T-shirt. I really wanted to try the curry soba.

I arrived before the 11:30 opening time and there were about 6 people waiting in line, so I decided to join the queue. I ordered bottled beer and some snacks like pickled vegetables, omelette, and grilled duck. The pickled vegetables were really good. I also added some sake at room temperature. I tried the grilled conger eel as well. For my main dish, I ordered a large portion of tempura. The food came out quite quickly, so it's better not to order everything at once. I ordered a large portion of soba noodles, but even a regular portion would have been satisfying. Everything was delicious. When I left the restaurant, the line had gotten longer.

After shopping, I visited a soba restaurant. It is located in a drinking district in Ueno with a grand appearance. The interior is spacious, with seating available on the second floor as well, so there seems to be plenty of seats. The restaurant has a history of over 100 years as a long-established store, but it exudes cleanliness and is well-maintained. This time, I ordered the "sakura seiro." This is basically a small size of zaru soba, which was just the right size for me as I wanted a light meal. The texture was good, and the aroma of the dipping sauce was also nice, making it very delicious. I added plenty of condiments and finished it in no time. I hesitated to enter because the restaurant seemed a bit high-end, but I'm glad I did. It was soba with a good texture, a dipping sauce with a nice aroma, and a spacious and relaxing interior where you can eat and drink comfortably. I think the cost performance is also good, making it easy for everyday use. Thank you for the meal!

Before a work meeting, I wanted to grab a quick lunch, so I popped into this place that looked available. The surrounding bars were full of people drinking from noon, which made me a bit envious. The first floor has counter seats and tables, suitable for dining alone or with a group. There is also a second floor. There were many foreign customers in this area. It is easy for a woman dining alone to sit at the counter. I ordered the "Ten Seiro" which cost around 2300 yen. The tempura consisted of 2 shrimp tempura with large shiso leaves and shishito peppers. The shrimp tempura was particularly delicious, with a good portion size, light and crispy batter, and tender shrimp. It was better than tempura from specialty shops. It is a long-established restaurant (founded in 1892) after all. The soba noodles in a regular size may be a bit small for adult men. I should have ordered the large size. But the taste was consistently good. Among the chaotic surrounding shops, this place offers a calm atmosphere. However, it may not be very budget-friendly. Overall, I was very satisfied.

I visited "Ueno Yabusoba" on this day. The restaurant is located at the corner of the Ueno Marui store, near the south side of the intersection. I often passed by the front of the store while staying in Ueno, but there was usually a long line and I couldn't visit. However, on this day, it was a weekday and past the lunch peak hour, so luckily there was no line and I was able to enter without hesitation. I sat at the counter surrounding the glass-walled soba making room, and ordered the "Tenseiro" for 2,248 yen with a large serving of soba for an additional 385 yen, totaling 2,633 yen (tax included). It took less than 10 minutes for the food to be served, and the large serving was definitely the right choice. The tempura included two large prawns, shishito peppers, shiso leaves, and colorful Yanaka ginger, making the overall presentation quite appealing. I started by eating the soba plain without any condiments, and although it didn't have a strong buckwheat aroma, the texture was quite good. When eaten with the dipping sauce, which was moderately spicy, it complemented the soba well and was more delicious than eating it plain. However, I was a bit disappointed that they didn't provide soba choko (a small cup for dipping sauce) but instead served the soba in a regular cup. It's much better to hold the soba in your hand and sip it with a soba choko to fully enjoy the flavor, so I felt a bit off looking at the many decorative soba chokos on the counter. As for the main tempura dish, the prawn tempura was indeed large, but the excessive amount of crispy batter made it less enjoyable. Some parts of the batter were too crunchy, almost hard, which detracted from the texture of the prawn itself. This overdone batter made me lose interest even before tasting it. I forgot to take a picture of the soba broth, but it was served early in a small copper teapot with a clear, almost colorless liquid. The hospitality of the female staff in the restaurant was excellent, and their attentive service was commendable. Despite being a full house, they managed everything smoothly. Thank you for the meal. ☆3.55-42994

During the consecutive holidays, I waited for about 30 minutes before finally entering Ueno Yabu Soba for the first time. I ordered the assorted tempura soba, the curry soba that caught my attention in the reviews, tamagoyaki, and beer. The soba was delicious as expected, but the curry dipping sauce was surprisingly tasty, and the tempura shrimp was crispy and satisfying. The service was also attentive, making this place a must-visit for soba in Ueno. I look forward to trying a different menu item next time.

When I got off at Okachimachi or Ueno, I had only been to Ikenohata Yabu for soba, but somehow Ueno Yabu was established, and it must have been several decades since then. I felt a bit hesitant to try it as it seemed like a copycat of the original. On a Saturday around 4:00 PM, I was able to get in without waiting. I sat at a counter seat for one person and ordered the zaru soba. The portion was a bit larger compared to Kanda Yabu, and the color of the soba was a normal gray instead of the dark green at Kanda. The soba had a firm texture, with a mix of thick and thin cuts that seemed a bit messy. The dipping sauce was on the salty side, with a slightly weaker bonito flavor. Despite being in the same Yabu group, each restaurant seems to have its own unique style. I personally preferred the texture of the soba here over Kanda Yabu, as it had a good firmness and a hand-cut feel. The soba broth was served in a small iron pot, and it had a thick, white, starchy consistency, likely made from dissolved soba flour.

I lined up for about 15 minutes around noon on a regular day. The noodles with a refreshing taste were incredibly delicious. Standing in line in 36-degree weather made it taste even better. The broth was rich in flavor. Mixing it with soba-yu (hot water used to rinse the soba bowl) was also delicious. The tempura looked delicious too, so I want to go back again. Thank you for the meal.

I went to Ueno for a daytime drink with my former colleagues from the company I joined as a new graduate. For our third stop, we decided to go to "Ueno Yabu Soba" to wrap up the day. It was my first time visiting, and I was pleasantly surprised by the spacious and clean interior, as I had imagined it to be quite old-fashioned being a long-established restaurant. There were many tempting options on the menu for side dishes, but this time we went straight for the soba. I ordered the "Echizen Oroshi Soba Shochu" and the "Tenseiro" soba. I had my soba shochu with water, but I noticed they also offer it with soba-yu, which I would like to try next time. The Tenseiro soba had a rich aroma and the thin noodles had a delightful texture. The presentation of the tempura was beautiful, with garnishes of Taito ginger and sudachi peel. The large, crispy batter was not heavy, and the prawns were plump and juicy. Despite already being quite full from our previous stops, I managed to finish every last bite. The service from the staff was excellent, and I could see why this place is a well-established soba restaurant. Thank you for the meal!
