Today I visited Genpin Fugu in Asakusa. My main purpose today was to try the ramen produced by Iida Shoten. The restaurant has been around for quite some time and has a traditional feel inside. I visited for lunch and wanted to add the fugu course to my meal, but unfortunately, it was not available for lunch and could only be added to the dinner course for an additional 800 yen, which was not mentioned anywhere. Despite this, I decided to go for the grilled fugu course with tsukemen for 6000 yen. When I placed my order, they asked if I wanted water or tea, and I was eager for water due to the hot weather outside.
The dishes started arriving. First was the fugu skin with ponzu sauce, asatsuki, and grated daikon. Next was the fugu tempura, which had a slightly fishy smell that I tried to mask with lemon juice. It was served with deep-fried sweet potato and shishito peppers. Then came the fugu sashimi, which also had a slight smell that I covered with plenty of condiments.
The grilled fugu was the highlight, with bone-in meat, thick flesh, skin, shishito peppers, shiitake mushrooms, negi tare sauce, sweet miso, garlic salt, and chili peppers. The grilling added a delicious smoky flavor. The ponzu sauce from the sashimi also complemented it well. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of the tsukemen, but it was not to my liking. The noodles seemed poorly cooked, and I preferred convenience store tsukemen. The white fugu sauce added richness to it.
For dessert, I had nut ice cream, which was quite hard but delicious with nuts inside. Overall, it was a good learning experience. I might have felt that the regular course with ramen as the finale would have been a better deal. Even though it may have seemed like a good deal, the taste... It's funny that the person themselves visited a few days ago. This was a report from a fickle-minded person who was intrigued by the name. Thank you for the meal today. Ψ( 'ч' ☆) ===========
