Visit date: August 15th
I was planning to visit a local eel restaurant called "Nemoto" with my golf buddy and foodie friend H, as usual. Since it was Obon season, I was unsure if the restaurant would be open or not, so I checked X (formerly Twitter) early in the morning on the day of our visit. To my surprise, there was a notice saying "temporary closure"! We quickly discussed where to have lunch via LINE, and since we were in the mood for eel, I suggested "Unagi Wami," a place I had bookmarked before, and H agreed to it. There were reviews saying that they might sell out by around 10:30, so we decided to act fast. We arrived at the restaurant at 9:22 AM, and there were already 10 people in line. Luckily, we managed to get in after the first round. Around 10:10 AM, a female staff member went around to confirm the number of people and if anyone wanted takeout, and at 10:15 AM, a sign saying "Sold out for today" was put up. By then, there were about 35 people lined up behind me. It was a good decision to act early. Around 10:40 AM, customers were guided into the restaurant in order, and we were seated at 10:46 AM. The restaurant had counter seats for 3, tables for 2, and tables for 4. We were quickly asked for our order, and both of us ordered the "Unaju (Fuku) 4300 yen *with liver and pickles." Our unaju was served around 11:16 AM, about 20 minutes after ordering. The lid of the box was slightly raised, showing a generous portion of eel inside. When we opened it, we found two whole eels packed tightly. Some reviews mentioned it as a large portion of unaju, so I had high expectations. The amount and the richness of the eel were good, but compared to my local restaurant, the eel was smaller, thinner, and the sauce was lighter, which was not quite to my liking. Thank you for the meal.
