I arrived at this famous restaurant in Nagoya right after it opened, and the table seats were already bustling with customers. However, as a solo diner, I was seated at an L-shaped counter near the kitchen, on the far left end. The chair had a slightly soft seat with curved backrests, but it was not tall enough. The wooden armrests were thin. There were no acrylic dividers, but the spacing between seats was decent, and there were baskets. The area behind this seat was completely open, allowing for excellent ventilation. There were hooks on the wall behind on the right side. To start, I was served tea and tea snacks, with the option for refills. The cucumber and cabbage provided initially were quite generous. If it gets crowded, they ask customers to leave within an hour, but since I planned to leave after eating, it was not an issue. I was curious about their hitsumabushi, but I decided on the eel rice bowl. The menu included a small eel bowl for 2,650 yen, a regular eel bowl for 5,100 yen, and an extra-large eel bowl for 5,650 yen. I inquired about the difference between the regular and extra-large, and opted for the latter. The portion of rice was not specifically asked about. The dish was served in about 12 minutes. This eel rice bowl was unlike any I've had before. I wonder how many thickly sliced pieces of eel were on top. And the eel was so thick! I sprinkled plenty of my favorite sansho pepper and dug in. The eel had just the right amount of bounce, was thick, and juicy! My mouth was filled with the flavor of eel, creating an indescribable feeling. I moved the eel a bit and ate some rice. The rice had a perfect firmness. They serve large, fresh water eels grilled at high heat, which I prefer. In comparison to other places in Tokyo like Ginza Iccho-me Hyoutan-ya, this restaurant's portion and price were better. However, Hyoutan-ya excels in serving piping hot dishes quickly, while here, due to the large size of the restaurant and the number of customers, the wait time is longer. Besides the eel rice bowl, they offer other dishes. The small side dishes were delicious, including grilled white fish and pickled Chinese cabbage. Can I finish all of this? I had my doubts. As I progressed through the rice in front of me, more eel appeared. Truly amazing! I was warned about the wasabi being spicy, but I used it. Without it, the quantity might have become overwhelming. The spiciness wasn't too intense, providing a refreshing change in flavor and resetting my taste buds, allowing me to enjoy until the end. Despite the satisfying eel, the rice portion was quite large, and I overate. Nevertheless, I believe that eel should provide a sense of satisfaction, and this restaurant certainly delivers with its generous portions. During payment, I chatted a bit with the staff. Myself: The portion was incredible. Staff: Yes! It was indeed. Some young customers can finish it in no time. Myself: I see. The eel was satisfying, but the rice was too much for me this time. I'll ask for less next time. I will definitely come back again. Thank you for the meal.
