On November 9, 2022 (Wednesday), I had work in Nishi-Koyama. For lunch, I visited "Shinwaken" which is a typical Chinese restaurant in town. I arrived at 11:57 and there was one customer already there. Luckily, it was lunchtime and I was worried it might be crowded, but there was still space. The menu didn't have set meals, only individual dishes and rice. I chose the "Wonton Noodles (800 yen)" this time. Whenever there is "Wonton Noodles" on the menu, I always order it. In the past, I used to always order Char Siu Noodles, but when you order that, it doesn't come with wontons. However, with Wonton Noodles, you always get Char Siu as well. That's why I prefer Wonton Noodles. The noodles arrived at 12:02. The toppings included green onions, egg, seaweed, menma, 5 wontons, and Char Siu. The chopstick wrapper had the restaurant's name on it, which is quite rare these days. The wontons usually come in sets of 5. The egg was a boiled egg, not seasoned. The soup had a gentle flavor, which would probably be favored more by older generations. The noodles were medium-thin and easy to slurp. The wontons had a good texture with a smooth skin. The Char Siu was lean but tender and tasty. The presence of seaweed and egg reminded me of the ramen at "Fuji Soba." After I entered, more muscular male customers started coming in. I overheard one customer asking for a ramen and half-Chahan set, which the restaurant didn't offer. It's always good to check the menu. The atmosphere brought back nostalgic memories of the Showa era. As for the closing music, this time it was "Shinwaken." "Shinwaken" → "Shinwa" → "Myth" → "Dark Myth" → "Creatures of the Night"... KISS!! "Creatures of the Night" = "Creatures of the Night" Kiss - Creatures of The Night Live https://youtu.be/_E3XOwZEv-Q Thank you for the meal♪

Located around the middle of Musashi-Koyama and Nishi-Koyama, on a normal street called Gocho-me Sakaedori, there is a Chinese restaurant. It is not in a shopping district, but in a residential area. Upon entering, the interior was smaller than expected with about 5 tables for 2 or 4 people each. Each table had 1 or 2 people seated, and it was quite crowded with 5-6 people. Luckily, we were able to enter as people were leaving. I was planning to have the ramen for 600 yen, but the fried rice was 900 yen which seemed high, and there was no half portion available, and the dumplings were 600 yen which also seemed expensive, so I was a bit unsure. Then I saw a menu on the wall and found a set meal that seemed like a good deal. I ordered the Liver and Leek Stir-fry Set Meal for 850 yen, and also got a small bottle of beer for 550 yen. As a side dish for the beer, chilled tofu was served. It was just tofu topped with chopped green onions, but it was a nice touch. Although I couldn't see the kitchen, I had imagined an older man, but then I heard a woman's voice confirming orders. About 5 minutes later, the Liver and Leek Stir-fry Set Meal was brought to me. It had plenty of bean sprouts and leeks, with the bean sprouts being crunchy and delicious, but the leeks were a bit chewy. The seasoning was a mix of salt and a Chinese soup-like broth. It was decent. The liver had a small portion compared to the vegetables, and had a typical pork liver taste. It was slightly dry in texture. It would have been better if it was juicier. The rice came in a large bowl, which was okay. The miso soup with seaweed and tofu was surprisingly tasty. It's interesting that a Chinese restaurant serves delicious miso soup. As a dessert substitute, a lactic acid drink was included. It was interesting. For an 850 yen set meal, I didn't expect much, and the Liver and Leek Stir-fry was quite average. Since I was full, I didn't feel like ordering the ramen as an additional dish. Maybe trying the 600 yen ramen here would be a good idea. It seems like a convenient place for locals, but it's a bit strange that while the ramen is cheap, the dumplings are expensive.

Located in the residential area of Meguro Honcho, this long-established Chinese restaurant offers a variety of dishes, but the recommended item is their ramen! The clear fox-colored soup, pink roasted pork, and simple yet refined taste make it quite delicious. And at 600 yen, it's a great value! Despite its old-fashioned appearance reminiscent of traditional Chinese eateries, the quality of the ramen sets it apart from the rest. The location in the heart of Meguro Honcho, surrounded by old-fashioned Chinese restaurants and eateries, adds to its charm. The exterior may look old, but the interior is clean and well-maintained. The menu offers a range of dishes, with ramen priced at 600 yen and up, making it a budget-friendly option. The friendly staff and delicious ramen make this restaurant a must-visit.

Today, I visited Shinwaken in Meguro-Honcho, a popular Chinese restaurant in the Musashikoyama area. I stopped by for lunch. The small restaurant has 5 tables and no counter. It feels a bit cramped. There is a TV placed high up, showing an elderly couple running the place. I was served cold barley tea and a paper towel as soon as I sat down. Looking at the menu, it seems like stir-fried dishes are their specialty. I ordered the Eggplant Stir-Fry Set for 850 yen. It arrived in just over 10 minutes. The stir-fry consisted of eggplant, onions, bell peppers, and minced pork in miso sauce. The crunchy vegetables and sweet miso sauce went well together. It's a perfect dish for summer. The white rice was slightly firm, and the portion size was good. There was no soup, but the miso soup was delicious with seaweed and tofu. It also came with yellow pickles and a plum, along with a probiotic drink. They also have a good selection of alcohol. It seems like it transforms into a more bar-like atmosphere in the evening.

Ramen for 600 yen -> On Chinese food day, it's 500 yen. Animal-based dried ingredients? Soy sauce soup with thin curly noodles and pork shoulder. Char siu, white leeks, menma, wakame, and a quarter of a boiled egg. I stumbled upon this old-fashioned Chinese restaurant while wandering around a while ago. I had completely forgotten where it was, but I remembered it recently when I visited Musashi-Koyama. Unfortunately, due to the current situation, it was often closed or on temporary closure, or even if it was open, I couldn't make it in time. But on this day, I decided to give it a try, and it was open! I arrived just before 1:30 pm, with one customer already inside and no one else. The interior of the restaurant had a nostalgic Showa era atmosphere but was clean. All tables were for 4 people, and there was an acrylic board in the middle of each table with the menu attached. I was served barley tea and paper towels by the female owner, and I placed my order verbally. The food arrived shortly after, with a translucent soy sauce soup. The soup was hot and refreshingly light with a unique light soy sauce color. The soup had a weak but pleasant umami flavor. The straight, thin noodles were smooth and had a nice chewiness. The char siu was well-seasoned and delicious, although the fatty parts were a bit tough to chew. The generous amount of white leeks, menma, and wakame paired well with the dish, and the boiled egg was a nice touch. This Chinese-style ramen was quite different from others I have tried, and it was a refreshing and satisfying meal, especially after drinking. The ramen is usually 600 yen, but on Chinese food day, it's only 500 yen. The other menu items seemed appetizing as well, but the prices were a bit on the higher side. Overall, I may consider revisiting in the future.

A traditional Chinese restaurant. The TV is set up above, making it quite cozy. This time, I ordered: - Five-ingredient yakisoba (not fried): There are plenty of vegetables, which is great. The noodles are not crispy, making it easy to eat, but those who prefer crispy noodles may find it lacking. Also, the portion of noodles may feel small for adult men. - Shumai: Large-sized shumai with shredded apples and cabbage. They are big, so they have a good bite. Both dishes have a fairly spicy mustard, so it's good to eat them with a little dip.

The restaurant is located on a street near the Meguro Chuo Gymnasium, far from any station. In the past, there were many small factories in the area, so there were many Chinese restaurants catering to the workers in the corner of the town in Nishi-Koyama. However, with the changing times, these local Chinese restaurants are disappearing (I know of at least six within a 500-meter radius). Despite this trend, this particular restaurant is still operating well. You can spot it by the delivery bikes parked outside. During lunchtime, there are already customers in work clothes dining. I came here specifically for the now rare dish of miso stir-fried pork, which used to be a staple at local Chinese restaurants. I also ordered some shumai. The shumai comes with shredded cabbage for some reason. The shumai is large and has a fluffy texture, very delicious. But it's a bit pricey. I wish they would lower the price, even if they made the portions smaller. The miso stir-fried pork is loaded with meat. The miso, combined with doubanjiang, gives it a slightly spicy kick. The sautéed onions are sweet and tasty. The combination of the meat's umami, the sweetness of the onions, and the slight spiciness creates a delicious flavor. It goes well with rice. Strangely, a Yakult drink is included. This is provided with every set meal. I drank it in one gulp at the end. I'm satisfied. In the evening, as the night begins to fall, I enter the restaurant to find the regular group of elderly customers starting their usual drinking session. I decide to order the cold noodles since it's summer. The cold noodles have a black vinegar flavor. The balance of sourness and sweetness is good. However, the noodles are lukewarm. I understand they are freshly boiled, but I wish they were colder. The toppings include shredded omelet, thinly sliced cucumber, bean sprouts, pickled ginger, and other standard ingredients. The generous portion is a plus. In conclusion, while the variety of set meals and dishes is less compared to recent Chinese restaurants, everything is delicious and the portions are generous. However, the prices for side dishes like shumai are high. All the side dishes are meant to be main dishes, with large portions and high prices. Nevertheless, I hope this local Chinese restaurant continues to thrive in the future.

This is a Chinese restaurant located in a residential area in Musashi-Koyama. I was heading to a certain restaurant but got lost, so I found this place and decided to go in. I visited around 7:30 pm on a weekday, and there was only one other customer. It was less than 10% full. I ordered the Spicy Pork Stir-Fry Set (950 yen). The food came out in about 5 minutes. The spicy pork stir-fry was a dish of pork and onions stir-fried together. Despite being described as spicy, it was not very spicy at all. It was just a regular pork and onion stir-fry set. I was happy that a small lactic acid bacteria drink was included. It reminded me of a diner I used to go to when I was a student. However, overall, it's a bit pricey for a casual Chinese restaurant, so I don't think I will visit again.

On the second day of my temporary Chongar life, I visited a familiar Chinese restaurant nearby. It's a place that has been around since I was a child, but this was my first review on Tabelog, and it seems to be the first review for the restaurant as well. I arrived around 7:15 pm, just before the closing time of 7:30 pm. There were a few customers dining on set meals and a couple of take-out customers inside the restaurant. The place has only 18 tables. The menu includes a grand menu on the table and various set meal menus posted on the wall. I usually order just fried rice when visiting casual Chinese restaurants, so I did the same here. I ordered without really looking at the menu, and later realized that the fried rice was 850 yen while the set meals were around 800 yen. I ordered the fried rice with a slight regret. The fried rice, which arrived in about 5 minutes, had simple ingredients such as egg, pork (not char siu, just thinly sliced pork), green onions, and green peas. The soup was egg drop soup, different from the usual soup served with fried rice. The fried rice had a good lard flavor, slightly greasy, which I liked. However, the portion was a bit small and the price of 850 yen seemed a bit high for what was served. The owner mentioned that the restaurant has been around for over half a century, even before I was born. We talked about other Chinese restaurants like "Miraku" and "Futaba" that used to be in the area but disappeared. The owner seemed well-informed about the local Chinese restaurant scene. I hope this pioneer of casual Chinese dining, Musako, continues to thrive. (If the fried rice was a bit cheaper, it would be even better...)
