Yesterday, I went to the Fujiya Nakano Broadway store, but they didn't have what I was looking for. Specifically, they were out of the strawberry shortcake. Fujiya offers three types of shortcakes: triangular shortcake, strawberry shortcake, and premium shortcake. I have never tried the strawberry shortcake before and have been searching for it without success. So, this time I gave up and bought something else instead. I got the honey lemon rare cheesecake and Peko-chan's cheek custard. The honey lemon rare cheesecake had a nice balance of acidity and a refreshing aftertaste, it was delicious. Peko-chan's cheek custard was a rich custard that everyone would enjoy, you could eat as many as you want. I probably won't have cake again until around this time next year, so I hope to try again next year. I hope I can find it next year!

This time, I indulged in some cakes for the first time in a while to replenish my carb intake after undergoing a health check-up. I bought three different cakes: a stump cake for ¥330, a premium rich baked cheesecake for ¥520, and a domestic fruit roll cake for ¥540. It was quite amusing to imagine a grown man, especially an old man, carefully selecting cakes at a confectionery store. Since I don't usually eat cakes, I felt a bit unnatural and suspicious in my behavior. The staff kindly assisted me as I made my choices. Back at home, I started with the cheesecake. The cookie base was crumbly, making it a bit difficult to eat. The fruit roll cake was the most decent and delicious. Lastly, I tried the stump cake, which had a sugary coating of crystallized sugar around it, making it overly sweet and challenging to eat. It was so sweet that I couldn't even tell what I was eating. At that point, I started to think that maybe I don't need cakes, especially sweet ones, until next year.

I bought a cake at Fujiya for the first time in decades. It's a whole Ibara King cake for 780 yen (tax included). I was surprised that Fujiya now sells cakes at this price! It's quite expensive for a sliced cake, but it looked incredibly delicious, so I couldn't resist, even though I'm on a diet. Ibara King is a large melon that Ibaraki is proud of, and I saw online that you can buy one for around 1,500 yen. I don't usually buy melons, so I'm not sure if that's expensive or cheap, but I've heard of Ibara King before and was curious to try it. The cake is a quarter slice of melon with a slightly sweet cream filling. Since there is no information on the official website, I don't know how long they will be selling it. The other seasonal cakes also looked delicious, and I almost ended up buying more than one. I managed to resist, though.

Located in front of Nakano South Exit, I bought a cake at Fujiya out of nostalgia. It seems that there are many Fujiya fans as the customers are constantly coming in. They were holding a "Strawberry Fair" so I chose the following: - Strawberry Mille-feuille - Strawberry Choux Cream It tastes like the flavors from the Showa era (laughs). It has a simple taste. My son, who was born in the Heisei era, said it was delicious as he ate it, but personally, I felt a bit unsatisfied as I have become accustomed to the taste of modern cakes. Thank you for the meal.

I visited this place located on a corner near the south exit of Nakano Station. It is next to the bus terminal in front of the station, so many people pass by while looking at the refrigerated showcase. I tried the "Korokoro Shibachan" for takeout. You can enjoy a sticky texture.

I had been avoiding sweets for about three months for a health check-up, but today I finally lifted the ban. I went to the Funabashi Nakaminami-guchi store and bought a Yubari melon Milky Roll, a moist souffle cheesecake, and the classic triangular shortcake. These cakes are simple, but I think it's good that they are not overly decorated. I don't usually have sweets often, so I indulged myself. It feels like I've replenished a year's worth of sugar. I won't eat like this until after next year's health check-up.

In May, on my way back from work, it was Children's Day so I decided to buy a cake from Fujiya. I saw that Peko-chan was wearing a mask - so cute! Both the south and north exits of Nakano Station had Peko-chan wearing masks. The cakes on display were themed for seasonal events like Tanabata, Children's Day, Halloween, Shichi-Go-San, so it's perfect for creating a special atmosphere at home for kids.

I might not have eaten the cakes from Fujiya before. It's a shop located at the corner across the street from the south exit of Nakano Station. The cakes are quite big. I bought the Premium Shortcake (made with domestic strawberries) and the Premium Rich Baked Cheesecake (both priced at 480 yen including tax). The Souffle Cheesecake on the lower shelf is 300 yen, so the prices are indeed premium. The Shortcake has a classic taste with cream and sponge, nothing too special. The cream wasn't too sweet, which might be necessary to finish this size. The strawberries were good and plentiful. The Cheesecake, as the name suggests, is rich and heavy. It's quite dense. It's very cheesy. Eating it alternately with the Shortcake was just right, as it might have been too heavy on its own. This also feels like a classic choice. The Shortcake felt light at first, but as I ate more, I started to feel the weight of the cream. The sponge was soft, more like a cream sponge mix rather than cream spread on the sponge. Ultimately, it felt like the cream itself was rich. The Cheesecake hits you with a robust flavor from the first bite. It's hard to describe, but it's like a strong and rich cheese taste. Both cakes seem to have a Fujiya style or policy. They are consistent and have a certain integrity.

[Visit on October 31, 2018] Located about a 1-minute walk from Nakano Station South Exit. Visited around 2:30 pm on a weekday. There was one group of customers before me and one group after me. Bought a custard pudding for 108 yen and a smooth double choux cream for 108 yen. Despite the low price of 108 yen, both items offered great value. They have a shelf life of a few days, making them suitable as souvenirs. Since it was Halloween that day, there were many products related to the occasion on display. Thank you for the meal.

I went to Fujiya at the south exit of Nakano Station (^o^) I have liked Fujiya since I was little, so I got takeout to eat at home (^o^) On this day, I bought macarons. They collaborated with Sanrio, so the macaron bags feature Hello Kitty, Keroppi, My Melody, and they are very cute ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡ There are various flavors such as vanilla, strawberry, and matcha, and they are delicious. The matcha flavor is refreshing and tasty. I would like to visit Fujiya again.

I arrived at Nakano Station while casually walking! I worked hard today, so I'm going to buy a cake at Fujiya! There were many cakes lined up in the showcase, so I was undecided. Today, I felt like having an apple pie. Fujiya's cakes are affordable and have a good portion size, which is great! It was my first time trying the apple pie, and it had a good portion size, not too sweet, and lots of apples in it. It was delicious! It's also good for souvenirs, and it's nice to have Fujiya right in front of the station at Nakano Station.

At the south exit of Nakano Station, there is a Fujiya. It has a decent size, so it has quite a presence. I usually buy products like Peko-chan's cheeks at Fujiya, but they also have pudding. And it's only 108 yen including tax, which is surprisingly cheap. I was worried about the taste because of the low price, but you can really taste the richness of the eggs and the smoothness of the cream. The vanilla beans also add a nice touch, and considering the price, it's a pretty good pudding. The texture is firm. The lid of the pudding is cute, and the spoon handle is Peko-chan, which is a nice touch.

*Fujiya @ Nakano Halloween had a variety of cute cakes for sale! Ghost pumpkin Mont Blanc ★ Mont Blanc designed to look like a Jack-O'-Lantern. Photogenic! The outside is pumpkin cream, and inside there is caramel cream, especially the pumpkin cream is rich and the caramel cream enhances the pumpkin flavor. Morimori Choux ★ Cream is a two-layered cream of whipped cream and custard. There was really a lot of cream. Strawberry chiffon cake ★ The dough is soft! I bought cakes at Fujiya near the south exit of Nakano Station for the first time in a while. I got a yellow Mont Blanc, a chocolate cake, an apple pie, and a cheesecake. The Mont Blanc had a sweet potato flavor with just a hint of chestnut. The cheesecake tasted a bit powdery compared to the ones sold at department store food halls. Nowadays, even Cozy Corner has delicious cheesecakes at a reasonable price. It would be nice if they could improve the quality a bit more.

I went to the Fujiya store in Nakano, which is quite close to the station. The store here is also quite large, and I think it has been around for a long time. Next to the bus terminal at the south exit of Nakano Station is a Fujiya store. I have passed by it often and seen people buying from there, but it had been over 10 years since I last bought something. Since it was Children's Day, I decided to buy a chestnut Mont Blanc and an Italian chestnut Mont Blanc, as well as a mille-feuille and a cheesecake. I always thought of Fujiya as a place that sells regular cakes, but it seems like they have evolved over the years. I had the impression that their cakes were very sweet, but all the ones I bought were relatively light, and the sizes were compact. The Mont Blancs come in yellow Japanese chestnut and brown Italian chestnut, but they still have that classic Fujiya look. Maybe it's good that some things haven't changed. With cake prices soaring and it becoming common for a single piece to cost over 500 yen, Fujiya seems to still be a shop for the common people.

Here is a nostalgic review of a long-standing confectionery shop located at the rotary in front of Nakano Station South Exit. The shop, Fujiya, has been a favorite since childhood. In the past, the second floor used to be a small restaurant where my family would stop by after shopping in Shinjuku to enjoy parfaits and light meals. It was a regular treat for us to buy cakes on the first floor and enjoy them at home. Visiting this shop brings back fond memories of watching the sunset in AIWAYS3-chome. On a recent visit, I noticed that the shop had become smaller and the second floor was gone, but it still held a nostalgic charm. I couldn't find the box of donuts that I used to buy often. I ended up choosing the Mother's Day Flower Shortcake for 918 yen, as Mother's Day was the next day. This strawberry shortcake had slices of peaches in the sponge cake, giving it a retro Showa era flavor. The sponge was firm and the taste was unpretentious and nostalgic. This is the taste of Fujiya that I remember! The only problem was deciding who would get to eat the strawberries on top. With two strawberries and a family of four, it was a test of the family's hierarchy. In the end, I ended up not getting any strawberries and settled for the fake carnation flower on top. Maybe I should get a more obedient Chihuahua! (laughs) Thanks for the meal!

"Fujiya Nakano Minamiguchi Store," located about a 2-minute walk from JR Nakano Station South Exit. I visited around 2 p.m. on a weekday. At the storefront, there was Peko-chan dressed as a pink rabbit. Easter is a festival that celebrates the resurrection of Christ on the third day after his death, and the revival of nature in spring. It falls on the Sunday following the spring equinox, and in 2014 it was on April 20th. Peko-chan is currently participating in the Easter Carnival with a rabbit costume, not the March Hare from Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland." She is wearing an Easter egg around her neck, which is visible if you look closely. Personally, I think Peko-chan would look better in a Humpty Dumpty-style costume, combined with Easter eggs and rabbit accessories to increase Easter recognition. Currently, she looks a bit awkward wearing a costume bought from Don Quijote. * Milky-like Cream Puff (185 yen) - A cute cream puff coated with white chocolate and powdered sugar, resembling the candy "Milky." Inside the choux pastry, there is a generous filling of Milky cream and flavorful custard cream. When eaten at home, the choux pastry is extremely sweet due to the chocolate and sugar coating. When you hear the name "Fujiya," you might think of Milky, shortcake, Look chocolate, Peko-chan's cheeks... But don't forget about their canned drinks. Let's start with Lemon Squash (tax included 124 yen). Going back thirty years or so, this juice gained popularity with its strong carbonation and lemon pulp. It was served at a nearby cafe by pouring this canned juice into a glass and adding a bottled cherry on top, proudly presented as the cafe's Lemon Squash to customers. In other words, it was that authentic. Even though the juice contains only 10% fruit juice. Comparing it to the past, the carbonation and acidity seem milder now, but it still has a nostalgic charm. Next up is Nectar/Peach (tax included 124 yen). Going back forty years or so, this drink captivated young boys and girls with its intense sweetness. In the past, households didn't have the culture of quenching thirst with juice. When thirsty, it was tap water. At best, barley tea. Therefore, drinks like juice and Calpis were positioned not as thirst-quenchers but as a type of sweet treat. In other words, they were liquid sweets. If you think I'm lying, try drinking Fujiya's Peach Nectar when your throat is parched. Despite being made with a more refreshing taste than before, the sensation of sticking to your throat and the sweetness might make you even thirstier. However, this can be comforting when you have a cold or a fever. Gently coating a rough throat and providing energy to every cell with its sugar content. Cool Lemon Squash, soothing Peach Nectar. In other words, Fujiya was the ultimate tsundere in the canned drink category.
