We are currently on a unique journey with 5 people. After leaving the takoyaki museum, we hopped on the Emerald boat and arrived at Sensoji Temple in Asakusa! Even though it's a weekday, the place is packed with tourists. While pushing through the crowd, my partner suddenly stops. It's a dorayaki shop called "Funawa Kaminarimon." My partner quickly placed an order for sweet potato butter dorayaki. We were not allowed to eat while walking, so we enjoyed our dorayaki by the shop. The sweet potato with just the right amount of butter was delicious! We quickly finished it, mostly thanks to my partner. Now, we will continue exploring Asakusa, enjoying more food and drinks. Tokyo is so much fun!

This is a popular souvenir from Asakusa, with a reliable deliciousness that makes you crave it occasionally. I usually buy a combination of 6 anko balls and 3 sweet potato yokan. They can last until the next day. I like the slightly coffee-flavored anko balls. It's fun to try variations like strawberry and orange, in addition to the traditional anko. The sweet potato yokan has a simple and rustic taste. It's a reliable and delicious choice.

When it comes to boat-shaped sweet potato yokan, I bought some while passing by. They even prepared a bag for eating on the go and asked if I wanted to eat it right away. I said yes, so they put it in a white paper bag for me. Asakusa is really crowded these days, both from domestic and international tourists. In the Asakusa area, there are many stores of Funawa, and the Nakamise store is always extremely busy. Surprisingly, the Kaminarimon store doesn't have long lines, so I think it's a hidden gem. They also sell limited edition products like anko dama and Country Ma'am cookies in sweet potato yokan flavor, making it easy to buy souvenirs here. The sweet potato yokan itself was moist and not too sweet, delicious without being too sticky or getting stuck in your teeth.

There are 6 Funawa shops in Asakusa. The shops in Nakamise are always crowded, but surprisingly, the Kaminarimon shop is always empty. I decided to buy sweet potato yokan to treat my friend who is coming to play the next day. When I bought it as a souvenir for my mother 3 years ago (autumn 2020), it was a set of 5 sweet potato yokan for 648 yen including tax, but this time (February 2023), it was a set of 5 sweet potato yokan for 864 yen including tax. It has become quite expensive... Well, it's delicious so I think I will continue to buy it, but it's a bit sad that it has become a snack that is gradually becoming less affordable. It is located along Kaminarimon Street, about a 1-minute walk from Kaminarimon. Matoimo, where the Wasanbon pudding is delicious, is nearby.

I visited Asakusa for sightseeing and stumbled upon Funawa. I was interested in trying the anko-dama, but decided to go for the classic sweet potato yokan instead. My thoughts after trying it... it tasted just like sweet potato!

Visited around 4pm on a regular day. There were two people in line. I was drawn to the sign for sweet potato yokan soft serve and decided to order it. It costs 400 yen for one. It's sweet potato yokan flavor, but it's surprisingly light and refreshing, very easy to eat and delicious! The thin sweet rice cracker that comes with it is also good. Highly recommended!

I stopped by here while strolling in Asakusa and wanted to buy some traditional Japanese sweets from a famous confectionery shop to take home. The anko-dama and sweet potato yokan had a same-day expiration date. I wanted to send them to my parents, so I asked the staff, and they said if I bought them online, they would be delivered from the factory and last for about 3 days. I was a bit disappointed to hear that they were made at the factory. The anko-dama was just sweet. I couldn't buy the sweet potato yokan, so I'll try next time. The suama was hard and not very sweet. There are much tastier suama available elsewhere. The anmitsu was really bad. The one from Mitsuhashi is much better. Overall, I was disappointed, so I have no plans to revisit except for the sweet potato yokan that I haven't tried yet.

"Funawa" is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop in Asakusa known for their "sweet potato yokan" and "anko dama." This time, I tried their "anmitsu," a popular dessert. I've been into anmitsu lately and have been trying it from various confectionery shops. Funawa was the first in Japan to create "mitsu-an" using agar and simmered apricots. The anmitsu I tried had black honey and a rich bean paste. Personally, I prefer white honey.

On a holiday Monday, I stopped by to buy a souvenir for my home. I had already purchased a gift for my family at the main store, but I decided to get something for my home as well, so I stopped by this store on my way back. I tried the "sweet potato yokan" (120 yen excluding tax) which I already knew was delicious, and it was indeed tasty as always. I also tried the "chestnut yokan" (240 yen excluding tax) for the first time, and it exceeded my expectations with its perfect sweetness and chewy texture. The "chestnut yokan" might be a seasonal item, but I definitely want to buy it again next time.

When you come to Asakusa for a casual visit, make sure to buy some sweet potato yokan to take home. Here at Funawa, they have sweet potato yokan that is bursting with sweet potato flavor. It has a scent of satsumaimo sweet potato that goes well with tea or even coffee. You can enjoy sweet potato yokan anytime, anywhere, even just one piece at a time. It fits perfectly in your pocket. The texture is smooth and the sweetness is just right. There are many stores selling sweet potato yokan in Asakusa.

Long ago, about 40-45 years ago, there was a branch of Funawa in the Noren Street of Higashiyokohama in Shibuya, and I used to buy from there often. The taste memory of the sweet potato yokan planted in that era is always brought to mind whenever I see a Funawa store in Asakusa. Today, even though I initially passed by the store, I quickly turned back to buy the sweet potato yokan. In my taste memory, nothing has changed at all, but I wonder if it has actually changed?

While walking through the Nakamise street at Sensoji Temple, I came across a place that looked delicious and couldn't resist stopping by. It was a unique sweet treat from Funawa called Imo Youkan, served alongside soft serve ice cream with a sweet potato flavor. It was rich in sweetness and absolutely delicious! You eat it standing next to the shop. This is a must-have tasty dessert for the summer. I would love to stop by again for some food exploration when I visit Asakusa.

I love Imoyokan from Funawa, so whenever I visit Tokyo, I always buy some. When I went to Asakusa, I tried the Imoyokan soft serve ice cream. It had a piece of senbei and Imoyokan from Funawa on top. The flavor of the sweet potato was rich and the soft serve was light and delicious! Asakusa is always bustling with activity. There are many delicious restaurants too. Thank you for the meal ☺︎

Limited edition sweet bean paste balls for 108 yen each, rated 3.0 stars. I bought four of these pretty sweet bean paste balls. It was my first visit and I wanted to try the standard sweet bean paste balls, but they only had this limited edition version. When I tried it, it reminded me of cherry blossom mochi. It was okay, but it made me crave cherry blossom mochi instead. Next time, I think I'll try the sweet potato yokan.

It is the timeless deliciousness of a long-established shop. Since childhood, it has been my favorite snack. It has a simple yet high-quality charm that remains unchanged from those days. I tried various delicious sweet potato yokan, but the No. 1, Fudou, is still the best. There are only a few things that can deliver an unchanged deliciousness over time. Thank you, Funawa, for bringing us this consistent deliciousness. I will continue to purchase regularly.

This is my first time visiting Nakamise. I, a country bumpkin named Min1, used to think that the Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa was the same as the Taishakuten Temple in Katsushika Shibamata. This time, while in Nagoya, I told everyone that I wanted to eat the grass dumplings from Tora-san in Asakusa. When I came to Tokyo and told my friend Michiko about it, she said, "Tora-san is from Katsushika, so it's different." I didn't know... I had mistakenly thought they were the same. But we had a fun time chatting and enjoying ourselves while visiting the temple and pulling omikuji, then we headed to Nakamise. After this, we'll have dinner so let's just focus on shopping. I immediately went to this place famous for sweet potato yokan. Even though I had already paid a high shipping fee to buy souvenirs at Tokyo Disneyland, I ended up buying more here! (laughs) Actually, I'm not a big fan of sweet potato yokan. I don't like that chewy texture. Can't I just eat sweet potatoes normally? But when I peeked inside, I found various other sweets so I bought two of each. I bought the 130 yen sweet potato pie and the 160 yen suguremon. When I got back to Nagoya, I had them with tea. The sweet potato pie was as expected, nothing special. But the suguremon was delicious! It was fluffy, and the lemon-flavored coating was tasty, but the lemon filling inside was my favorite! It had a refined sweetness and was very delicious, so I lightly regretted not buying a box... That was Min1, who enjoyed the meal. Thank you for the meal.

I didn't know there was such a delicious dish as "Bolo" until my friend asked me to try it.

This shop stands out on the Nakamise Street in Asakusa! As a sweet potato lover, it was perfect for me. It was a bit crowded on the holiday, so I had to wait in line. The shake was also delicious.
