Today, after finishing my errands, I decided to visit the area near Shiba Park. The Shiba shopping street is less crowded after 1 pm, with fewer salarymen around. I noticed that Wadenori is quite busy. My main goal today was to get the tempura bento from Tenho. I parked at the meter and hurried inside. There were already two customers ahead of me, but there were still a few pieces of tempura left in the showcase. I was a bit late. I ordered the shrimp, mixed shrimp, vegetable tempura, carrot tempura, and rice (medium) for ¥750. The tempura, steamed on top of hot rice and dipped in tempura sauce, was delicious. The two pieces of pickled radish served on the side were a nice touch. There's a reason why they only give you two pieces of pickled radish, but I'll leave that for another time.

I visited a tempura takeout place in the early afternoon on a regular day. Nearby salarymen were lining up for lunch tempura bowls, indicating that it's a well-established restaurant. Inside, I saw mothers handling customer service and cooking. I bought squid, onion, and horse mackerel tempura. It tasted nostalgic. The restaurant and the mothers were both wonderful. I wonder if I could work there when I get older. Keep up the good work for a long time.

I visited "Tenko" in Minato-ku, Tokyo for lunch. This popular restaurant always has a line during lunchtime, but the turnover is fast so you won't have to wait long. The tempura is delicious and affordable. I always end up choosing the chicken and chikuwa, and kisu because I can't decide. Even the (medium) size rice portion is very filling!

This time, I visited a tempura bowl shop in Shibamata Shopping Street! It is easily accessible from either Shibakoen Station or Hamamatsucho Station, taking less than a 5-minute walk. I was able to purchase without waiting around 1 pm on weekdays. However, there is often a line around noon. If you go later than the peak time, there may be fewer tempura options, which can be a bit of a dilemma... haha. You can choose the size of the rice (large, medium, small) and select the tempura to put on top. Each tempura piece costs 150 yen, while the rice costs 200 yen for a large 400g portion. Just a heads up, you should choose at least 3 tempura pieces to cover the rice properly, otherwise, they will be served separately. The rice is packed tightly and served hot, which is delightful. The sauce is slightly sweet but refreshing, and even when it cools down, it still tastes good. The tempura coating is crispy, and even just the coating soaked in sauce goes well with the rice. It was delicious, and I finished every last bite. It seems you can request more or less tempura dipping sauce, so I might try ordering extra sauce next time!

We ordered a tempura bento box from a tempura deli that opens at 7:30. When we arrived at opening time, the curtain was closed and we could hear the sound of cooking inside. We placed our order with the elderly couple working there, and they told us they had already fried about five items, including squid. We ordered everything they had, as well as a small portion of squid rice. We enjoyed our meal at a Super Hotel table, accompanied by a can of 500ml beer. We will never forget this weekday morning experience.

The strongest cost performance tendon!? And it's not a chain store, but a private store!? I was so intrigued that I had no plans until the evening. I decided to take a nostalgic commute-like trip through the city to Shiba. The store seems to be open from early in the day, but I thought the tempura selection might not be the best when opening at the same time. So, I took a detour to the store with a bustling atmosphere. Nestled between towering buildings, the scent of daily life fills the air. A small shopping street continues its business as it did in the past. This store, facing a relatively large main street, is bustling with customers visiting and showing signs of prosperity. While observing the selection from outside the store, I learned how to order from the previous customers. As I expected, the selection was almost at its maximum. The glass case is lined with delicious-looking tempura from end to end. To order a tempura bento, you first declare that you want a bento, choose the rice dish, then select your favorite tempura. The mother confirms the tempura with the customer and then passes it to the counter behind. The price is determined by the number of tempura pieces on top of the basic rice dish. It's a system where you can make your own tempura bowl with 2-3 tempura pieces priced at 100-150 yen and rice (about 200g for 100 yen). You can make your own tempura bowl with your favorite ingredients for just one coin! I also ordered a bento and a single item to go. I quickly ordered a small rice dish and couldn't miss the shrimp! I also added onions and chicken breast. I wanted to add one more item, but greed is not good, so 3 items are best. In return, I can choose a variety of dishes for dinner. Tempura such as dashimaki tamago or local ingredients named after this area, such as "Shiba shrimp" kakiage (speculation). If it's self-service, like a certain udon restaurant's strategy, I might end up taking an unlimited amount (laughs). It's a store for takeout, so everyone probably eats it at work, right? I brought it home. After returning home, I warmed it up in the microwave and first ate the shrimp tempura. The thin batter absorbs the bowl sauce and is moist. The satisfying crunch and chewy texture, the perfect match of sauce and batter! The rice soaked in the bowl sauce adds to the experience of "this is a tempura bowl!" Freshly fried crispy tempura is delicious, but a tempura bowl soaked in sauce is also delicious. It's disrespectful to compare it to chain restaurant tempura bowls or tempura bowls with only batter from the supermarket (laughs). It's a personalized tempura bowl!

This is a hidden gem in Hamamatsucho. I haven't been here for a while since changing jobs, but happened to have some business in Hamamatsucho. They only offer takeout, but the prices are very reasonable. The tempura donburi here is only 700 yen, but if you get carried away with all the tempura in the showcase, it can easily reach 1,000 yen. The grandma and grandpa running the place seem very energetic, which is great to see. Oh, and the taste is definitely delicious!

I wanted a quick takeout lunch, so I went to Tenho near my office. It was past 1 PM, so the only tempura options available were the ones in the showcase. Luckily, they had plenty of the classic shiitake mushrooms. I decided to go with 4 pieces of tempura and chose shiitake mushrooms, horse mackerel, fish cake, and eggplant. However, when I asked for rice, they said it wouldn't fit because the tempura pieces were too big. I ended up taking the tempura in two separate containers back to the office. When I tried to put them on the rice, it was a struggle to keep them from sliding off. The overflowing tempura covered the rice completely, making it hard to see. Despite the challenge, the tempura was delicious, with unique ingredients and a satisfying crunch. It's a charming family-run restaurant that offers a special dining experience.

Kisu (130 yen) + vegetables (130 yen) + shrimp and vegetable tempura (130 yen) + medium rice portion (150 yen) - Today, I decided to get lunch for my home telework near Shibakoen Station. The area around the "Nanamagari" crank-shaped alley lined with shops has many charming eateries. After browsing around, I ended up at a takeout-only tempura restaurant called "Tenko." I had been curious about this place for a while, but I heard that there is always a long line during lunchtime and the popular tempura items sell out before noon. Also, the photos of the tempura served on packed rice with sauce poured over didn't look very appealing to me, so I hadn't visited before. However, today, there was no line when I arrived after 1:30 pm. I thought they must be out of tempura by now, but to my surprise, they still had kisu, vegetables, shrimp and vegetable tempura, and egg omelet tempura in stock. So, I decided to give it a try! To order, you specify the amount of rice for the tempura bowl (small 200g for 100 yen, medium 300g for 150 yen, large 400g for 200 yen) and then choose your favorite tempura items. Without saying much, they packed the rice, poured the sauce, dipped the tempura in sauce, placed it on the rice, wrapped it in paper, and made it into a tempura bowl for me. I'll have the medium rice portion with kisu, vegetables, and shrimp and vegetable tempura, please. The total came to 540 yen, so I thought I would get 460 yen in change when I handed over a 1000 yen bill, but the lady said, "You're handsome, so here you go!" or something like that, and gave me 470 yen in change. Why? Oh well, let's head home quickly and open it up. Hmm... it looks just like I expected. The tempura soaked in sauce is placed on the rice, with pickled radish on the side. It's all brown food visually. Now, let's try the tempura first... Oh? This is delicious! The tempura batter, steamed by the rice steam, is crispy, and the perfectly balanced sauce, not too sweet or salty, has just the right amount soaked into it, creating a lingering taste. The tempura without the usual crunch is a different kind of delicious. Also, the amount of sauce on the rice is just right, not lacking in flavor but not making the rice soggy either, showing a wonderful balance. The kisu has a firm texture and is satisfying. The vegetable tempura is made of onions and carrots. The sweetness of the onions and the softness of the carrots complement each other well. Tempura dipped in sauce always goes well with rice, right? The shrimp and vegetable tempura, which looks like ground fish paste with small shrimp inside, is also delicious. It has just the right amount of saltiness and a good texture! Despite visiting near closing time, the tempura was not greasy at all, and the oil used was not heavy. For example, when I occasionally order rice and tempura at Marugame Seimen and make my own tempura bowl, I always end up feeling heavy (or rather, the oil becomes heavy and makes me go "Ugh..."), but this was not the case at all. The tempura and rice went down smoothly, and I finished it in no time. I thought 300g of rice might be a bit too much when I picked up the pack, but I ate it all without slowing down. The rice was cooked firm with plump grains. I really appreciate this quality because if the rice is mushy, my enthusiasm drops drastically. The generously cut pickled radish with a strong saltiness also plays a good supporting role. By the way, isn't 150 yen for 300g of rice ridiculously cheap? Some places charge around 300 yen for 150g of rice. So, I enjoyed it thoroughly and thank you for the meal. Yeah, I regret not coming here before due to the appearance, but this was a delicious B-grade tempura bowl. All the items I tried this time were great, but I might want to come earlier next time and try more items. A revisit is a must!

At the tempura restaurant, you can choose your favorite tempura and the size of the rice to make a tempura bowl. Since there were many people waiting, I quickly ordered three types of tempura while observing others. The vegetable tempura, smelt, and chicken tenderloin were each 130 yen, and the small rice was 100 yen. It was nice to receive change from a single coin! Even though I chose a small rice, the portion was quite generous. The sweet and savory tempura sauce was delicious. I thought I was full, but ended up finishing every last bite. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal until the end.

The size of the rice may be small, but it's a solid 200 grams. I got my favorite tempura on top and poured hot sauce over it to make a tempura bowl. The takeout container is a simple pack, not a fancy one, to keep costs down, with the focus on the taste. I visited around 12:40 during lunchtime, and the place was super popular with most items sold out. I selected two vegetable tempura and one sandfish tempura, each priced at 130 yen. The total for three was 390 yen. Adding 100 yen for the rice, the tempura bowl was 490 yen. When the hot sauce was poured in front of me, steam rose from the tempura. It was piping hot. The tempura was soft and fluffy, losing its crispy texture due to the sauce and the lid being put on. I enjoyed it while it was still hot. The tempura was freshly fried right in front of me. It was a luxurious treat for just one coin (490 yen). Incredibly delicious. Some people may prefer crispy tempura, but that's a matter of personal preference. This freshly made, piping hot tempura is of the highest quality for a one-coin lunch. It was truly impressive. I find it strange that other reviews are not as positive, but personally, if you're looking for a one-coin tempura bowl, this is the place to go. Thank you for the meal!

Today, despite having a cafeteria at work, I decided to try out the takeout option that my colleague has been using. I arrived around 12:30 and found about 10 people already in line. Five more people lined up behind me shortly after. At this time, there were only five options left. I chose shiitake mushrooms for 150 yen, whiting for 130 yen, bamboo shoots for 130 yen, and vegetables for 130 yen, along with pickled radish rice for 690 yen. Unfortunately, they were out of shrimp. I quickly headed back to the office cafeteria to enjoy my meal. The batter was crispy, but the sauce made it a bit moist. The rice was also covered in the sauce. The shiitake mushrooms were thick and tender with a natural sweetness. The whiting was decent, and the sweetness could be from the sauce or the fish itself. The bamboo shoots were large and satisfying to eat. The vegetables, like carrots and onions, absorbed the sauce well and tasted delicious. I ordered a regular portion of rice, but it was quite filling. It was fluffy and tasty, especially with the pickled radish. Overall, I enjoyed the meal. It was reasonably priced and didn't cause any heartburn due to its moist texture. However, I didn't find it exceptionally delicious. Personally, I prefer crispy tempura over moist ones, which might be why. I told my colleague, who recommended this place, that it was good. Thank you for the meal.

I visited a favorite restaurant recommended by an acquaintance salesperson, where they visit a few times a month. You can choose 4 fried dishes and rice (no sizes available) for around 700 yen. It seems to be a takeout-only place as eating in is not possible.

This is a takeout-only restaurant specializing in tempura rice bowls, known for its long lines. Customers can customize their tempura combination, and I chose a set with kisu fish, shrimp, and chicken tenderloin, with a medium size rice (300g). The price was reasonable at 540 yen, but the taste was not particularly noteworthy.

I finally made it to this popular tempura takeout shop in the neighborhood, which always had long lines every time I tried to visit before. This time, I arrived around 11:30 and the line was only about 4-5 people, a rare opportunity. The shop offers only tempura rice bowls for takeout, where you can choose your own tempura pieces from the showcase. The prices are reasonable, and the shop is often sold out by noon. I chose a selection of tempura including smelt, chicken breast, shrimp with grated radish, and carrot and burdock tempura. The tempura was freshly fried by the elderly lady in the kitchen. The portion size was generous, and I struggled to finish it all, feeling quite full afterwards. The tempura was delicious, especially the vegetable tempura. The rice was topped with a variety of tempura pieces, and the light tempura sauce allowed the natural flavors of the ingredients to shine. The pickled daikon radish on the side added a nice crunch between bites. Overall, it was a satisfying meal, but the portion size was too large for me.

I happened to be close to the restaurant around lunchtime due to work. I was worried about how long the line would be, but when I arrived, there were only about 6 people in line in front of the tempura showcase, so I quickly joined the queue. After placing my order, I moved to the next line for payment and soon got my lunch. The dish I chose this time, "chicken breast tempura," had the most volume. The meat had a satisfying texture. Check out the photo for more details...

Despite being very close to my workplace, I had never been to this restaurant before. I decided to go during my lunch break, arriving a bit early to join the line. I ordered squid, shrimp shumai, bamboo shoots, tamagoyaki, and a medium-sized rice bowl. The meal came with thick pickled radish on the side. The ingredients were all generously sized and satisfying to eat. The squid tempura was packed with meat, and the slightly sweet tamagoyaki was delicious. I felt the flavors were a bit mild, so I think it would have been better with more sauce.

I went to a takeout specialty store called Tenko to buy a tempura bowl to eat in my car because my work schedule is unpredictable. I ordered a large portion of rice with extra sauce and a variety of tempura including shrimp, smelt, vegetables, and onion. Despite the staff suggesting to pack the tempura separately, I insisted on having it all together. The tempura became soggy during the drive back to work, but the warm rice and thick-cut yellow pickles made for a satisfying meal.

My second workplace, where I used to work about 5 years ago, was in the area near this restaurant. It was located near Shiba Park, so I rarely visited it. However, I happened to be in the area for work and decided to dash over to the restaurant for lunch. There was already a line forming, but the tempura ingredients were lined up quite well, so the turnover was fast.
