Located on the south side of Golden Gai, just a short walk from Hatagaya Station on the Keio New Line, is a soba restaurant called "Omura-an". I visited for the first time around 1:30 PM on a Sunday. The restaurant is closed on Thursdays and only open for lunch on weekends, including Saturday and Sunday. The interior has a traditional soba restaurant vibe, with about 7-8 tables and 2 sunken tatami tables towards the back. The menu is divided into hot and cold soba and udon, as well as rice dishes like tempura don. There are no set menus that include both soba and rice. Since it was too hot outside, I opted for a simple Mori Soba with extra noodles. The Mori Soba costs 700 yen, with an additional 200 yen for extra noodles. It took about 15 minutes for my order to arrive. The portion was generous, and the soba noodles had a refreshing and clean taste, perfect for a hot day. If you have a big appetite, I recommend getting the extra noodles. The restaurant was quite busy, and the staff were rushing around, so I didn't ask for soba water and quickly finished my meal before heading out. Payment is cash only. This place is great for a quick soba fix near the station, and I plan to come back to try their rice dishes or warm soba with tempura next time.

This is a soba restaurant near Hatagaya Station South Exit. The building is made of reinforced concrete, but it has a unique atmosphere with a large signboard with a family crest, a bonsai of manryou, and old maps on the walls. Inside the restaurant, there are 4 tables for 4 people, 4 tables for 2 people, a large table with a hearth in the center, and 2 tables for 4 people in the raised tatami area. The menu offers soba with soup or without soup for 600 yen, which is considered affordable in the area. The restaurant also serves rice dishes, but there are no set menus, following the typical style of a soba restaurant in a residential area. I tried the "Okame Soba" for 850 yen, which includes 3 pieces of kamaboko, 2 pieces of naruto, shiitake mushrooms, spinach, and wheat gluten. The presentation is symmetrical, almost resembling a face. The soba noodles are machine-made and have a standard thickness. Despite the low buckwheat flour content, the quality of the soba is considered high compared to other standing soba shops. The portion is generous, served in a deep bowl, making it a good value for money. The broth is well-balanced, albeit slightly mild in flavor, which complements the soba well. The thinly sliced green onions and thickly cut yuzu peel add to the overall balance of flavors. The restaurant has a traditional feel and pays attention to detail in its dishes. The ingredients are substantial, with the kamaboko being a standout element. The shiitake mushrooms are well-cooked and sweet, while the spinach is of good quality. The wheat gluten, when eaten last, absorbs the broth and tastes delicious. The restaurant provides small packets of shichimi pepper on the table for seasoning. The service is friendly, with the hostess handling orders efficiently. Overall, the restaurant offers a satisfying meal with good value for money, making it a reliable choice for everyday dining.

I visited "Omura-an" near Hatagaya Station for lunch. On this day, as part of a plan to walk from Sangenjaya to Ikebukuro via Shimokitazawa, we stopped by for lunch around 1 pm. I had drunk too much the previous day, so I felt like having a light soba for lunch. Zaru soba is the best, justice! We both slurped on zaru soba. We explained the difference between mori soba and zaru soba, and truly appreciated the deliciousness of zaru soba. We dipped the green onions and wasabi into the dipping sauce and enjoyed it. Finally, we had soba-yu and replenished our energy for the walk to Ikebukuro. It was a happy moment, zaru soba for 700 yen.

A long-established soba restaurant in Hatagaya. The restaurant wasn't too crowded, but the staff were bustling around. Their way of speaking was very distinctive, almost like a mascot character. The menu at this local soba shop is very extensive and enjoyable. The soba itself is quite white and leans towards a refined taste. It has a chewy texture with a good bite. The soba dipping sauce at local soba shops is always flavorful. I personally like the strong bonito flavor, and it tastes really good even when mixed with soba water. The freshly grated wasabi is also a nice touch.

When you catch a cold, for some reason you start craving for hot pot udon, but before you know it, the old-fashioned hot pot udon from the convenience store has disappeared. The decorative kamaboko with a hint of sweetness, colorful simmered fu, and the hot pot udon topped with energizing shrimp tempura, all make for a hearty meal that can lift your spirits. Despite being a humble establishment, the staff's attention to detail is evident as the place is always packed with customers. It is now a conscientious and precious restaurant.

Visited in early November 2019 and ordered the katsudon. The meat was about 4mm thick. The rice was served in a large bowl, but the bottom was relatively shallow, so it didn't look as filling as it appeared. The dish was on the salty side. The egg on top of the katsudon was not runny, but well-cooked. It had a typical taste, not like the cheaper versions found in beef bowl chain restaurants. Overall, it was decent, but not exceptional enough to solely attract customers with just the katsudon.

This is a soba restaurant located very close to Hatagaya Station. The interior is quite spacious, but when I visited it was a Sunday lunchtime and the place was almost full with customers coming and going. Looking at the menu, they had a wide selection of traditional soba dishes, as well as options like katsudon and oyakodon, making it difficult to choose. I ended up choosing the Duck Seiro for 1050 yen. In less than 10 minutes, the Duck Seiro was served. The broth was rich and flavorful, with a hint of yuzu. The duck meat was well stewed. The soba noodles were smooth and easy to eat. After finishing the noodles, I added sobayu (hot water used to rinse the remaining broth in the bowl) to the broth and discovered bits of yuzu peel, which added to the deliciousness. The restaurant was bustling with customers the whole time I was there, and it's clear why - the location is good and the food is delicious. I want to come back to try more dishes. Definitely going to be a repeat customer. Thank you for the meal. I will visit again.

A traditional soba restaurant located about 50 meters from Hatagaya Station. The menu is varied, offering a range of dishes from rice bowls to soba and udon noodles. It tends to get busy during lunch hours. There aren't many soba restaurants near Hatagaya Station, so this place is quite convenient. Today, I had the large serving of tororo soba. The tororo (grated yam) was generously served in a bowl, and you pour the soba dipping sauce over it. The rich sauce complements the tororo well, and the soba noodles are thin with a nice chewiness. The meal was delicious as always. Thank you for the tasty soba. I will definitely visit again.

I visited a soba restaurant called "Omura-an" near Hatagaya Station before noon on a certain day in January 2019. There were 4 customers in the restaurant when I arrived. I sat at a table by myself and ordered the "Wakadori Minami Bansoba" for 800 yen. The dish arrived after a 7-8 minute wait. It was soba with chicken and finely chopped green onions as toppings. The chicken was easy to eat and had a good texture. It seemed to be regular chicken rather than a special local breed, but it was still easy to enjoy. The soba was perfect for warming up in the cold winter. The "Wakadori Minami Bansoba" with added chili pepper on top had a simple but decent taste. The broth was Kanto-style with a strong soy sauce flavor. The portion size was decent. The quality of the soba itself was good, but the price of 800 yen felt slightly high. Overall, it was a decent soba dish to enjoy casually, suitable for those seeking a not overly delicious soba. The restaurant definitely provides a satisfying quality of soba.

Oomura-an @ Hatagaya Soba Oomura-an is a soba restaurant located about 30 seconds from the Hatagaya station exit. There are many Oomura-an soba restaurants scattered around, and I have visited two in the past: Oomura-an in Okubo and Oomura-an in Jinzen. The interior of the restaurant has a typical local soba shop atmosphere. These types of soba restaurants often allow smoking, but this one is completely smoke-free, which is wonderful. Prices range from 550 yen for Mori soba, 650 yen for Zaru soba, to 1,200 yen for the highest-priced Tenzaru soba. The Egg Topped Soba, my benchmark menu, costs 800 yen. The arrival of the Egg Topped Soba was quick, and it came with a side of green onions. The soba had a Naruto, seaweed, and spinach, and the egg was fluffy rather than creamy, which I personally prefer. After adding shichimi spice, it was ready to eat. The broth was flavorful without being too salty, a classic taste of a local soba shop. Although the portion was a bit small, opting for the large size for an additional 150 yen would make it a substantial meal. Overall, Oomura-an is a smoke-free and cozy local soba shop that offers traditional soba dishes. My colleague ordered the Duck Nanban Soba.

I visited "Omura-an" around 12 o'clock on a day in February 2017. Located right outside Hatagaya Station, the spacious restaurant was about 60% full of customers. I sat alone in a tatami room. Although it is a soba restaurant, they also have a wide variety of udon and rice bowl dishes on the menu. I ordered the "katsu don" for ¥950. It was served after a 5-6 minute wait, accompanied by miso soup and pickles. The katsu don had a good amount of food and the egg topping the katsu was slightly overcooked and on the firmer side. The quality of the katsu was average, and I felt that it could have been a bit thicker. The price of ¥950 for the katsu don is on the higher side. Perhaps the pricing includes the comfortable atmosphere of the tatami room seating.
