I watched "Finding Neverland" carefully for the third time and had a delightful time at this restaurant. We arrived around 3:30 pm, took a stroll around Hachioji, and decided to enter this restaurant that was open. It was around 4:30 pm when we entered, and the owner mentioned that it was okay to stay until after 6 pm. There was one family, a solo female diner, and two men already seated. Despite half of the seats being empty, we felt like we just made it in time. Other walk-in customers who arrived after us were all turned away. The place seemed popular...?
When we tried to place our order, we were ignored for a while as the owner attended to other customers and tasks. Just when we started to feel uncertain about the place, the owner finally came to take our order. We ordered Sapporo Red Star beer for 750 yen, a Phoenix Mitama peach soda for 690 yen, Fish Nigori for 390 yen, a sashimi platter for two for 1,100 yen, medium-sized fried horse mackerel for 790 yen, and grated whitebait for 490 yen. The owner recommended we start with the Fish Nigori as it's made only with real fish collagen and tends to melt if left for too long. This was the first time we had a proper conversation with the owner. The worry in our hearts eased a bit, and when we tried the Fish Nigori, it was incredibly delicious. We started to like the owner a little more. The texture with the small fish roe-like bubbles inside was irresistible. The Fish Nigori sold out while we were there. And it's only 390 yen! I wonder how hard it is to make...
Next, the sashimi platter arrived. Wow! Is this really for two people?! The portion was impressive, and each slice was big enough to fill your mouth. And it tasted delicious. I was surprised! We ordered the medium-sized fried horse mackerel, and when it arrived, we thought, "This is a medium size?" I wonder how big the large size is. We particularly liked the finely textured tartar sauce that came with it. It was not too sour and had a smooth flavor.
Lastly, we added Corn Tempura for 790 yen and a Highball for 450 yen before finishing our meal. Throughout our meal, the phone kept ringing, and the owner kept apologizing to everyone for being busy. The owner seemed to be shy around strangers. However, he seemed to have a good conversation with what seemed like regular customers. The cost performance of the food was excellent. We left the restaurant feeling satisfied and content with full stomachs.
