野良パンダム
First visit. A tonkatsu restaurant near Gotanda Station. As soon as you leave the station and turn into a side street, you'll see several izakayas lined up, and this place is among them. The restaurant has a small layout with only a counter. The interior has a quaint atmosphere typical of a local tonkatsu restaurant. There was only one person in charge of cooking. The menu can be seen in the photos. They also seem to have Iwachu pork, but I opted for the regular loin cutlet. The brand of the meat is not specified, so it's unclear. Loin cutlet set meal (1390 yen including tax). The moment it was served, the smell of oil hits your nose. This is not good... Even though it was close to closing time, they should take care of the deteriorated oil. The frying color is dark. As expected, the texture of the coating is tough. While the oil drainage is decent, there are gaps between the coating and the meat, causing the coating to separate from the meat. At this point, I'm feeling discouraged, but I'll try it anyway because you won't know until you taste it. I had a piece without any condiments, but I couldn't taste the meat at all. The quality of the meat itself doesn't seem good, and it's probably overcooked. The lean part is dry and crumbly. Also, because the oil is deteriorated, a strange oily taste lingers in the mouth, which was off-putting. Despite not tasting the meat, only the taste of oil, I don't feel like I've eaten tonkatsu. Yeah, I'm glad I didn't go for the Iwachu. With this level of skill, using Iwachu would be a waste... The rice is average. The cabbage is dried out. The miso soup is okay. It's a bit too salty and lacking in miso flavor. The pickles are unacceptable. While the prices are cheap for a tonkatsu restaurant in Tokyo, if the quality doesn't match, it's honestly tough. In Gotanda, there are many tonkatsu restaurants, but to be honest, there isn't one that I can recommend. Gotanda is a tonkatsu-free zone. In the current situation, if you want to eat tonkatsu in Gotanda, it's better to take the Ikegami Line from Gotanda Station.
