I'm feeling really hungry and craving some tonkatsu for a slightly late lunch, but there doesn't seem to be any around... As I was thinking about this, I happened to turn into a side street and there it was! A tonkatsu restaurant in such an unexpected place... It had only counter seats and they were all full, but I was drawn to it somehow. Just as I was watching, a customer came out. Without hesitation, I went in and started thinking about what to order. The sound of the knife cutting through the fried tonkatsu was so satisfying. I was sure the tonkatsu at this place would be delicious. I decided to order the special lunch set with loin katsu. While waiting, I could hear the sound of the knife cutting through the tonkatsu again, making my appetite even more eager. I couldn't resist and ended up asking for extra rice... Oops, I'm currently on a low-sugar diet... (On hold, lol) The pork had a rich flavor, you could taste the essence of the pork clearly. When I chewed, there was a crispy sound and the sweetness and flavor spread in my mouth. The rice was glossy and cooked to my liking, slightly firm. There are many good restaurants out there, but a restaurant where you can hear the sound of the knife cutting through the food is a sign of delicious tonkatsu.

I found a tonkatsu restaurant at lunchtime and decided to come here to boost my stamina because it's hot outside. The small restaurant has only a counter, which is narrow but enough for dining. I chose the pork cutlet set from the lunch menu. The freshly fried cutlet looked delicious. The crispy and fragrant breading, along with the tender and juicy pork, was satisfying. The miso soup had fried tofu and daikon radish. You can get extra rice for 50 yen! I initially thought the portion was small, but I ended up feeling full after eating. Thank you for the meal.

I first came to this restaurant over 20 years ago! I come here occasionally! Today is about the 8th time! I ordered the large pork cutlet set meal! It took a little time to serve because there is only one craftsman now, whereas there used to be two! The taste is still the same as I like it, delicious. However, the balance with the price of 2000 yen is a bit off. It's a bit expensive!! Thank you for the meal. I will come again!

I had some business in Gotanda and came to this restaurant after finishing. It was around 11 o'clock and there weren't many options available. I decided to try the special lunch set for 1250 yen. The pork loin was incredibly delicious with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. It was really good.

The quiet master works diligently alone, just like the tonkatsu shops from the Showa era. The regular tonkatsu is crispy and delicious without any rough edges. The tonkatsu sauce is what most people would imagine. I added an extra shrimp fry, and they gave me two because the first one was a bit small. I enjoyed changing the flavors with oyster sauce, soy sauce, and store-bought tartar sauce. It's a personal favorite restaurant, and I look forward to visiting again in the future.

Today is a bit steamy. A water bottle is essential for a walk. For more, check out "butakoma Mainichi" on YouTube. Today, I started to sweat a bit, so for lunch, I went for something hearty and oily. That calls for "tonkatsu"! I visited a place that seemed a bit fancy, and they had four lunch options. After some hesitation, I ordered the most expensive special lunch from the counter. I watched as they cooked the thick pork cutlet and couldn't help but drool in anticipation. It took about 10 minutes to fry. When it arrived, I took a big bite from the center. Chewing, I realized the pork was dry. Another bite confirmed it, dry indeed. Why? Why, why, why? If this is what the special lunch is like, I can't imagine ordering anything else from here.

Visited "Tonkatsu Maruki" for lunch at Gotanda Station. Ordered the special lunch set (pork cutlet) for 1250 yen. Waited about 10 minutes for the meal to arrive. The tonkatsu had a crispy coating and tender meat, and tasted great with the sauce over rice. It was a satisfying and filling meal. Thank you for the delicious food.

Nice to meet you, I'm Chappy Jinbo. I visited Tonkatsu Maruki located at 2-6-3 Nishi-Gotanda, Shinagawa-ku. Their phone number is 03-3491-7696. The nearest station is Gotanda Station. I went for lunch and ordered the Menchi set menu, which costs 990 yen. Other menu options include Special Lunch (Pork) for 1250 yen, A Lunch (Filet Katsu) for 1100 yen, and B Lunch (Menchi and Green Roll) for 1100 yen. The set menu comes with rice, miso soup, and pickles. You can also get a large portion of rice for an additional 50 yen. The Menchi set menu had a good amount of food and the taste was decent. The restaurant only has a counter seating.

I have been living in Gotanda for almost 8 years now. Of course, I have been going to Gotanda for work even before that, for almost 30 years. As a tonkatsu lover, I thought I had covered the entire tonkatsu culture area of Gotanda, including areas like Ikegami. But I was completely wrong. While walking towards my office from the station, I happened to see people coming out of a building on a side street. "Huh?" I thought. As I got closer, I realized it was a tonkatsu restaurant. A tonkatsu restaurant that I had never seen before. I went down a little and found an old-fashioned tonkatsu restaurant run by a middle-aged couple. After some hesitation, I ordered the katsu curry. It was delicious. The curry was generously poured over the tonkatsu, which was more than halfway buried in it. It was a taste of authentic Showa-era katsu curry. It was really good.

[Location] 4 minutes walk from Gotanda Station [Date/Time/Queue] 2020/2/7 (Friday) 12:45 No queue [Dish/Price] Small pork cutlet for 1450 yen [Impression] A tonkatsu restaurant located in a back alley in Nishi-Gotanda. I ordered the small pork cutlet for 1450 yen. The breading was crispy, the cutlet was thick and juicy with decent flavor. It had a bit more fat, but it wasn't overpowering. The miso soup was also delicious. It may be slightly pricey for lunch, but the satisfaction level is high.

For lunch, I prefer a reasonably priced and naturally delicious tonkatsu restaurant where I don't have to wait too long, rather than lining up for an expensive and delicious tonkatsu. This place is just that kind of restaurant. It's not too far from the station, so sometimes you have to wait a bit depending on the timing, but I try to visit by slightly shifting my lunch time. I like the unpretentious and down-to-earth atmosphere of the restaurant.

Today in September 2019, I was planning to have crab miso spaghetti at Pasta House Eni in Gotanda for lunch. However, when I arrived, I saw that the daily special at Tonkatsu Maruki was ginger pork, so I ended up going there instead. I had planned to eat at a different restaurant yesterday, but it closed early, so I decided to try something new. The ginger pork was not too rich or too sweet, and it went well with the rice. The rice was slightly firm, which I liked. Next time, I want to try the tonkatsu or katsudon.

First visit. A tonkatsu restaurant near Gotanda Station. As soon as you leave the station and turn into a side street, you'll see several izakayas lined up, and this place is among them. The restaurant has a small layout with only a counter. The interior has a quaint atmosphere typical of a local tonkatsu restaurant. There was only one person in charge of cooking. The menu can be seen in the photos. They also seem to have Iwachu pork, but I opted for the regular loin cutlet. The brand of the meat is not specified, so it's unclear. Loin cutlet set meal (1390 yen including tax). The moment it was served, the smell of oil hits your nose. This is not good... Even though it was close to closing time, they should take care of the deteriorated oil. The frying color is dark. As expected, the texture of the coating is tough. While the oil drainage is decent, there are gaps between the coating and the meat, causing the coating to separate from the meat. At this point, I'm feeling discouraged, but I'll try it anyway because you won't know until you taste it. I had a piece without any condiments, but I couldn't taste the meat at all. The quality of the meat itself doesn't seem good, and it's probably overcooked. The lean part is dry and crumbly. Also, because the oil is deteriorated, a strange oily taste lingers in the mouth, which was off-putting. Despite not tasting the meat, only the taste of oil, I don't feel like I've eaten tonkatsu. Yeah, I'm glad I didn't go for the Iwachu. With this level of skill, using Iwachu would be a waste... The rice is average. The cabbage is dried out. The miso soup is okay. It's a bit too salty and lacking in miso flavor. The pickles are unacceptable. While the prices are cheap for a tonkatsu restaurant in Tokyo, if the quality doesn't match, it's honestly tough. In Gotanda, there are many tonkatsu restaurants, but to be honest, there isn't one that I can recommend. Gotanda is a tonkatsu-free zone. In the current situation, if you want to eat tonkatsu in Gotanda, it's better to take the Ikegami Line from Gotanda Station.

The old man wakes up early in the morning, so he gets hungry earlier than others. He starts to feel uneasy after 10 o'clock, and by 10:30 he becomes restless. As it approaches 11 o'clock, his mood worsens. So, those who schedule meetings in the 10 o'clock hour should beware. He leaves the company before 11 o'clock, going on a solo expedition because of his bad mood. He travels all the way to Gotanda. In a narrow alley lined with several eateries, he finds a particular restaurant. Despite it being 11 o'clock, the curtain is not yet up. He enters, and the owner hurriedly raises the curtain. He orders the extravagant "special pork loin lunch." The process starts with lighting the stove, and after waiting for 12-13 minutes, the dish is served. On the table are tonkatsu sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce. There is no salt. The tonkatsu is chewy and delicious. The best match seems to be the tonkatsu sauce. The generous portion of miso soup is a pleasant surprise. It is served piping hot, which would be appreciated in cooler weather. The owner is running the place alone, so he seems a bit flustered as more customers start to arrive. Overall, the satisfaction level is high, and the old man's mood improves. He looks forward to trying the ginger pork next time. Thank you for the meal.

I always gave up on lunch because it was always full, but this day there was a vacant seat so I entered without hesitation. I ordered the A lunch set (fillet cutlet) for 1080 yen. Since the chef seemed to be working alone, there was quite a wait after ordering. After about 20 minutes, the tonkatsu was served. The fillet cutlet was decently tasty, but for the price, it was just average. It was slightly oily too. However, the rice, miso soup, and cabbage were delicious, so overall I was quite satisfied. The miso soup had daikon radish, carrot, fried tofu, and small pieces of pork fat in it, giving it a slight pork soup feel. Well, there aren't many places around here where you can have tonkatsu for lunch, so I guess it's popular. Thank you for the meal.

I often work at an office in Oosaki recently, so I decided to extend my journey a bit and have dinner in Gotanda. I used to live in Gotanda when I was single, so I would occasionally come to this restaurant. It's a tonkatsu restaurant, but I used to always eat the ginger pork here. They use pork belly, which is my preference. However, I don't know if my memories are romanticized or if my taste buds have changed, but the one I had this day was not that great. By the way, they used to have three people working in the kitchen before, but this day there was only one. I wonder if someone else used to cook before.

I've been noticing that I've been going to Gotanda more often lately, Hatsu here. On this day, I finally decided to visit a tonkatsu restaurant that I've been curious about for a while - "Tonkatsu Maruki". It's just a 3-minute walk from Gotanda Station. Along a small street, you'll find several small shops lined up, with this green sign as the landmark. Inside the restaurant, there's only one chef diligently frying tonkatsu, surrounded by a counter. The lunch menu includes options like fillet katsu, loin katsu, and minced katsu. After ordering tonkatsu, I enjoyed a lemon sour while waiting. The appetizer was chilled tofu. As I sipped on my lemon sour, a mountain of cabbage was prepared on the counter. And then, here comes the loin katsu! Crispy coating, juicy meat, and plenty of cabbage! This classic combination is just delicious. The thick cut is shown in the cross-section. It's served with a sweet sauce and mustard. It's so good, I couldn't stop eating... The miso soup was also very comforting. Rice refills are available, so I happily filled up my stomach! Tonkatsu is something I crave once in a while. It's just so tasty when eaten at a restaurant. Thank you for the meal!

Here in the Gotanda area... during lunchtime, every restaurant is packed and it's hard to find a place to eat. Today, I decided to try "Maruki," a tonkatsu restaurant. There was only one customer when I arrived, and the owner was running the place alone. I ordered the ginger pork set, which arrived quickly. The set included shredded cabbage, ginger pork (made with pork belly), rice, miso soup, and pickles. The ginger pork had a mild flavor and was not too greasy, making it a good choice for older customers. However, at 1290 yen, the price was a bit high for what you get. Overall, it was a decent meal, but I probably won't be coming back for the ginger pork.
