When you think of Fussa, you think of the Yokota Air Base, but across Route 16 in front of the base, there are many shops and restaurants favored by US military personnel. Among the steak and burger joints, I discovered that the real gem in this area is Thai cuisine, as I experienced at Kaomangai 16 and this restaurant located on the south side. I have tried Thai food in various places in and around Tokyo, but I never expected to find two top-notch restaurants in Fussa. I visited during dinner time on a weekday, just before 7 pm. This restaurant is relatively unknown, with little information available online, so I took a chance on whether it was open. It appears to be closed on Tuesdays. There is no dedicated parking, so I parked at a coin parking lot behind the restaurant. Inside, there was only one other group of customers. A local gentleman, who I assume is the chef, greeted and served us. The decor has a American diner feel with a touch of Thai oriental charm, which I really liked. We ordered a la carte, with each dish priced in the 700 yen range, making it more affordable compared to Thai restaurants in the city. We ordered the pork fried rice, medium-sized Tom Yum Kung, and stir-fried water spinach. It was a shame we couldn't drink as we drove. When the dishes arrived, I was truly impressed by the high quality of each dish, especially the pork fried rice which was incredibly delicious. The balance of flavors, especially when squeezed with lime, was outstanding. The Tom Yum Kung and water spinach were also well-balanced and incredibly tasty. It takes a chef with great skill to create dishes like these. It's unlikely to find Thai cuisine of this level even in the city center. They also accept payment through PayPay, which is convenient. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience, and I highly recommend trying Thai food when visiting the Yokota Air Base.

I discovered a Thai restaurant located about 5 minutes from Higashi-Fussa Station along Route 16 and decided to visit it! Since there is no parking lot, I parked at the nearby coin parking lot. When I entered the restaurant, I noticed two groups of foreigners, possibly related to the nearby Yokota Air Base, as I could hear English being spoken. The restaurant had several table seats and a bar counter on the right side. I was surprised to find that the Thai staff could speak Japanese, Thai, and English. I asked for recommendations from the staff and placed my order. The staff members were both in the kitchen preparing the food, so service in the dining area was a bit sparse, but the dishes came out quickly. I ordered the following dishes: - Khao Man Gai (¥990): The sauce for the Khao Man Gai was delicious, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. The generous amount of cilantro on top was a nice touch. - Tom Yum Goong (Large - ¥990): This dish was very delicious. I personally enjoy the combination of spiciness and sourness in Tom Yum Goong, and this one had the perfect balance. The spiciness with a hint of lime was just right. - Som Tam (¥770): I ordered this dish with medium spiciness, but it turned out to be quite spicy. It was still tasty, but it made me sweat a bit. Overall, I was very satisfied with the Thai cuisine at this restaurant in Higashi-Fussa. I would love to visit again in the future. Thank you for the delicious meal!

(5th May 2023) There is hand sanitizer at the entrance. (4th May 2023) It was a clear and hot holiday night at around 6 pm, and I revisited the place after about 3 years. I ordered Thai seafood fried rice (excluding tax 990 yen). It contained squid, shrimp, and was quite delicious. I was the only customer. There was no music today, but that didn't bother me. I think I will use this place to kill time before going to Bar Sure Shot. (28th October 2020) I was planning to visit a Chinese restaurant or a soba shop that I had visited about 10 years ago, but it seems they have both closed down. It's a shame. I then decided to have dinner at this Thai restaurant across the road from Bar Sure Shot (although I didn't end up going due to time constraints). The restaurant had glass windows, and I could see the waiter wearing a mask. It was before 6 pm, but the town was already dark. I was the only customer. The interior was beautiful, with decorations like woven fabric with elephants. The waiter, probably a Thai man, seemed to be in charge as he was looking at the accounts. In pre-COVID times, I might have asked why I came to Japan, especially to Fussa, but I refrained from doing so this time. I have been to Thailand twice. The music was probably Thai pop, with a mix of enka-style and rock-style songs. Not my preference, but interesting and fitting for the atmosphere. I looked at the menu and ordered the recommended Stir-Fried Seafood Curry (excluding tax 900 yen), Thai Jasmine Rice (300 yen), and Chang Beer (300 yen). Pappong means seafood. The dish was rich in scallops, squid, celery, onions, etc. I don't think the cooking was exceptional, but the portion size was generous and satisfying for the price. There were no wet towels for service. A water pot was placed on the table. The total bill was 1,958 yen including tax. (Note) I saw more than 10 foreigners, including families, in the town of Fussa.

Tom Yum Kung Noodle Lunch and Pad Thai Lunch are each ¥825. The Tom Yum Kung Noodle soup had a rich flavor and was very delicious. The noodles were a bit too soft and the temperature was lukewarm, but overall it was great because the soup was tasty! (2 shrimp included) I didn't realize you could choose the level of spiciness, so I got the zero spiciness option, but next time I'll make sure to order the spiciness level I want. The Pad Thai had perfectly cooked noodles and seasoning, and I was happy to see that they included lime! In Japan, limes are usually replaced with lemons because they are more expensive, so it was a nice surprise to have lime on the side with 3 shrimp included in the lunch set. The dried shrimp was crispy and delicious. The Thai owner always says "Kob Khun Ka" which is nice.

About a 4-minute walk from Higashi-Fussa Station on the JR Hachiko Line, along Route 16, there is a restaurant called "Kinzo Thai Restaurant." I visited for the first time in early December. I arrived around 10:30 am based on information that the restaurant opens at 10:00 am, but the door still had a "CLOSE" sign on it. However, when I was about to give up and leave, a Thai man came out from the back of the restaurant and opened the door for me. The interior had a cool American diner vibe with a monochrome checkered floor. I sat at a 4-person table. They had a weekend lunch buffet, but not everything was ready yet. Eventually, the dishes on the buffet table included rice, curry fried rice, green curry, tom kha gai (chicken coconut soup), gapao (minced meat stir-fry with holy basil), chicken and onion stir-fry, stir-fried cabbage in white sauce with fried garlic, fried chicken wings, salad, and drinks (mango juice, tea, coffee, etc.). I tried them all and found the flavors to be on the intense side, more suited for American taste. They weren't spicy but had rich flavors. I personally enjoy intense flavors, so I liked all of them. I especially enjoyed the flavorful gapao and the creamy texture of the tom kha gai, so I ended up getting seconds. It was a satisfying Thai lunch. Thank you for the meal.

The fried rice dish was the least delicious I have ever had at a Thai restaurant, it tasted like it was made at home with a soggy texture. Other dishes were okay, I guess.
