Whenever I come here, I can spend a relaxing and calm time. The clientele seems to be mostly older people, perhaps due to the sense of security from the long history since the Meiji era and early listing on the stock exchange as a restaurant business. On this day, after finishing a meeting at Shinjuku Nishiguchi in the morning, I decided to use the shareholder benefit vouchers for (Kabu) Nakamuraya which were expiring at the end of the month, so I moved to the Higashiguchi area and arrived at this place around 11:40 am. Although it is not recorded in this blog, I have visited this place many times in the past, but according to my records, it seems that the last visit was before the COVID-19 pandemic, so I was surprised at how much time had passed. As usual, the famous Indian-style curry is well-known here, but whenever I come here, I usually order this. The Coleman Curry, which has been a specialty since 1959. On this day, I ordered it as a set with an 8-vegetable salad and a drink (Indian tea after the meal). The Coleman Curry is made with yogurt, tomatoes, and whole spices added to create a mild and flavorful chicken curry, and the taste is still the same as I remember, mild but rich. Looking at the menu, there was a set for comparing the Coleman Curry and the Indian-style curry, but I decided to go with the standard Coleman Curry. Although the amount of condiments such as achar-style and crushed plum or lemon was a bit less compared to before (you can ask for more if you like), it was delicious to eat them with the curry sauce, and the chicken and potatoes in the curry matched well. Overall, I enjoyed the meal. Thank you.

The restaurant was clean and very comfortable. I tried the classic Indian curry for the first time (1800 yen) and also ordered samosas (700 yen). The chicken in the Indian curry had bones, which made it a bit difficult to eat, but the flavor from the broth made up for it. The curry was spicy and had a smooth texture, which I enjoyed. The samosas were filled with spicy curry-flavored minced meat and potatoes wrapped in pastry. The accompanying sauce/spices were spicy and delicious. The curry came with optional toppings, so I added cheese for a laugh. If you want to fully enjoy the flavor of the curry, it might be better to skip the cheese and chutney. I would like to try a different curry next time.

Having dinner with my girlfriend, we visited the restaurant at 6:00 pm on a holiday. There were about 4 groups waiting, but we were seated within 15 minutes. The service was excellent, with polite staff escorting us to a table for four even though we were just a couple. We ordered two "half and half" curries, covering 4 out of 5 options. The appetizer salad included marinated vegetables, marinated horse mackerel, caprese, and chicken ham, satisfying our hunger while stimulating our appetite with the vinegar. The curries - classic Indian curry, vegetable curry with okra and lotus root, spicy seafood curry reminiscent of Tom Yum Goong, and tomato and chili curry - were all flavorful without overpowering each other. The side dishes, about 6 in total, paired well with the curries. It was a nice change to enjoy such a stylish curry. The ambiance of the restaurant was also great, giving off an adult vibe.

Nakamuraya's Coleman Curry is always the most delicious curry for me. It maintains the basic premise of Japanese curry, making white rice taste incredibly good, while also allowing the aromas of spices like coriander, cumin, cardamom, and cloves to be enjoyed in a balanced way without overpowering the dish. Nakamuraya's skill in blending these individual spice aromas without causing them to clash is truly remarkable. It feels like the essence and ultimate destination of Japanese-style curry rice. I will continue to visit this place. Thank you for the delicious meal every time.

On a slow day off during summer vacation, I visited "Shinjuku ISETAN" to buy a replacement "gas canister" that I had been concerned about for a while. However, there were hardly any options for the type of canister used for a gas stove, and perhaps due to it being payday on August 25th (Friday), all the restaurants on the 7th floor had a long line of people waiting outside. So, I gave up on Shinjuku ISETAN and decided to have a slightly late lunch around 2 pm. When I went downstairs, there was just one group of customers being seated inside the restaurant, with no one waiting. I sat on a chair near the entrance and waited for a few minutes, while more customers came down the stairs. For this visit, after about 8 and a half years, I ordered the "Love and Revolution Flavor" Nakamuraya Pure Indian Curry for 1,980 yen each. This dish has been loved for many years since it was first introduced in 1927. It has a historical background involving the founder of Nakamuraya and a prominent figure in the Indian independence movement. I also ordered a salad and drink set for 759 yen, and for myself, I had the curry alone along with a medium-sized Kirin Ichiban Shibori draft beer for 770 yen. First, we were served our drinks and the salad. Then, the curry and rice were served along with various condiments such as pickles, chutneys, and cheese powder. The curry was delicious, with a mild level of spiciness that even children can enjoy. For those who prefer a spicier taste, they can add the chutneys. As I continued eating, I started to sweat a bit due to the spiciness, but overall, it was a satisfying meal. I look forward to trying the small size or half-and-half options next time. Thank you for the meal.

I decided to go to Nakamuraya Honten for curry this time, since I had sweets last time. It's too hot to walk outside in Shinjuku, so it's convenient that it's connected to Shinjuku Sanchome Station via an underground passage. After some deliberation, I ended up craving traditional beef curry and chose the Bengali Curry for 2300 yen. It's a bit pricey, but the quality isn't bad. It came with a variety of 7 condiments. The spiciness level was moderate, with large chunks of beef and a single piece of potato. The rice was also delicious. I particularly enjoyed the ginger chutney. Inside the restaurant, I saw paintings of the founder's family, including one by Nakamura Iyo titled "Young Girl" and "Self-Portrait." I asked permission to take a photo from my seat to avoid inconveniencing other customers. "Young Girl" features the founder's daughter, Shunko, as the model. It's said that Nakamura Iyo was drawn to Shunko and even considered marriage, but their love was never realized.

Visited for lunch on a Sunday. The spacious interior exuded a sense of luxury, quite different from the exterior. There were about 20 chairs outside with instructions on how to line up, indicating a long queue. We waited behind about three groups but were seated in about 10 minutes. I'm not a fan of spicy food, so I usually only enjoy soup curry. I love the aroma of spices, but I usually avoid specialty curry shops. So why did I choose this place? Well, they also offer a variety of Western dishes like omurice and ankake yakisoba. Once inside, the aroma of spices filled the air, making me think, "I should have the curry after all." My friend chose the "Taste of Love and Revolution" curry, while I asked the staff to recommend a non-spicy curry, opting for a half-and-half set with vegetable and Coleman curry. I chose the white-eyed rice recommended by the staff and a mango juice to drink. First, the half-and-half curry arrived. I thought maybe there would be an appetizer first, but it came about 3 minutes later. The curry was easy to eat (really not spicy at all) and you could taste the spices. Mixing in the condiments like lemon and mango chutney made it even more delicious. The white-eyed rice was small-grained and firm, blending well with the curry. The appetizers included caprese, broccoli pickles, chicken, and sardine escabeche, all with a refreshing flavor. The prices are not casual, but the taste is guaranteed. The service was excellent, with many experienced staff providing attentive and smooth service. Truly worthy of the Nakamuraya name. Thank you for the meal.

Shinjuku Nakamuraya Manna's spicy curry with bone-in meat is irresistible ✨ The tender texture is complemented by a lingering spiciness that becomes addictive!! The accompanying condiments are also enjoyable. I definitely want to visit again soon! ✨

My friend said they have never tried Nakamuraya curry before. I was so surprised! Have you really never tried the "Love and Revolution Curry"? It's actually written on the menu. If you love modern history, trying Nakamuraya curry is a must! It's a path that every curry lover must take at least once. I thought that way. I was so shocked that my friend didn't know about Nakamuraya curry, so I immediately brought them here. Curry lovers become adults by experiencing love and revolution. It's kind of emotional... I ordered the Nakamura-style Pure Indian Curry and the Bengal Curry, both with white rice. Even though I haven't had it in a while, the memories of childhood outings and dining out came flooding back, adding a nostalgic touch. But it's still as vibrant as ever. In fact, I appreciate its balance even more now, after going through various experiences. It has a spaciousness and elegance that is hard to come by. It's hard to say "it appeals to everyone" without sounding like I'm criticizing, but Nakamuraya curry stands out with its unique character while being widely accepted by many, inspiring countless imitations and remaining as one of the origins of Japanese curry. In a way, this curry has sparked various loves and revolutions. It's a classic that doesn't feel outdated. Nakamuraya is a restaurant worth visiting for its curry. The smooth texture of the white rice complements the curry perfectly. I'm satisfied after having Nakamuraya curry after a long time.

The taste of Nakamuraya, a long-established restaurant that I rarely had the opportunity to visit, is truly exceptional. As a part of Japan's curry history, the flavor and aroma are top-notch. Even after finishing the meal, the complex spice flavors linger in the mouth, allowing you to savor the aftertaste. I thoroughly enjoyed the classic taste that has been attracting people for many years. #Nakamuraya #SeafoodCurry

I arrived at a popular long-established curry restaurant. There were people lining up, but they were being guided inside in order. I had already decided on the curry, but couldn't decide which one to choose. The recommended dish was the Indoiro curry, but I decided to go with the beef Bengali curry. When it arrived, it was a deep brown curry. I've heard that brown things are delicious, and it was true. The flavor and aftertaste of the curry were deep, yet it had a subtle sweetness to it. The chunks of beef were tender and flavorful, allowing me to truly taste the deliciousness of the meat. It's understandable why this curry has been popular for a long time. Thank you for the meal. I will definitely visit again.

"Nakamuraya Jun's Indian-style curry is a five-star dish. While it doesn't come with naan, it pairs perfectly with rice. The bone-in chicken and large chunks of potatoes give it a very manly appeal. No matter how long it simmers, it remains rugged yet incredibly delicious curry."

I went to Nakamuraya because an acquaintance wanted to eat their curry. It's a historic place with a good selection of dishes. The curry flavor is not unique, but rather safe. There are various side dishes that come with it, but there is no explanation on how to use them. The restaurant was crowded with many people waiting in line. Overall, it's a decent restaurant.

It is very convenient to enter the building directly from the underground passage. When you reach your desired floor in the elevator amidst the hustle and bustle, you are greeted by a quiet and calm restaurant setting. While curry is the main dish, they also offer cold noodles and noodles, so it's not just about curry. However, the curry is delicious.

07/11 (Tuesday) Shinjuku Nakamuraya manna... Authentic Indian curry for 1,980 yen... Suica... Good customer service, fast service, delicious taste, good cold water, good portion size... The taste of a long-established restaurant was deep and enjoyable. The customers were elegant, and the staff were the same... It was a very luxurious moment. Shinjuku Station's direct connection underground was also good.

I visited the restaurant around 3 pm on a holiday. I had to wait for about 15 minutes before being seated. The menu is a bit pricey, around 2000 yen each, but everything looked delicious. I ordered a curry and mapo tofu set. The curry had a familiar taste, and the mapo tofu was mild and tasty. There were no surprising or impressive flavors, but I enjoyed the retro atmosphere of the place. If you like retro flavors and atmosphere, definitely give it a try.

I visited the Nakamuraya Salon Art Museum and admired Nakamura Iyo's "Girl". During a break, I stopped by Manna in the basement. Nakamuraya is known for its curry, but my husband was waiting for me to make curry for dinner that day, so I couldn't eat curry. I was tired from walking too much, so I decided to have a sweet treat. I opened the menu, which had photos of when the store was first established in Hongo, and chose the "Black Sugar Warabi Mochi" for 480 yen. It is a simple dessert with black sugar warabi mochi topped with kinako powder and soft serve ice cream. It was perfect for me that day, and I enjoyed it. The Shinjuku Nakamuraya main store was rebuilt in 2014, and the Salon Art Museum was established at that time. This cafe also had paintings by the artists who gathered at Nakamuraya Salon, as well as photos of the founders, Mr. and Mrs. Soma. It was my first time visiting here since I came to Tokyo alone in my first year of university. I had curry back then. As I recalled my memories, I thought the interior of the shop was like this, but it seemed a little different. Later, I found out that it had been renovated.

This is a famous curry restaurant in Shinjuku. I finally got a chance to visit after a long time. I tried their signature dish, Nakamuraya Pure Indian-style curry. It was a flavorful curry with a traditional taste and a hint of spiciness. The toppings that come with it can be enjoyed together to experience a different flavor of curry. I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

I also compile gourmet information on my Instagram (@rmmk__). Please check it out! I had a quick solo meal at a restaurant on the basement floor of the Shinjuku Nakamuraya Building. [What I ate]: Coleman Curry (¥2,090) A bone-in chicken curry finished with homemade yogurt, tomatoes, and spices! I'm not good with spicy food, so I chose this mild curry! It had a nice level of spiciness, so I enjoyed it. (You can freely refill the condiments!) Personally, I found the ratio of curry to rice a bit lacking... I'll go for extra rice next time if it's possible! It was a mysterious restaurant where you can also enjoy Chinese dishes like omurice and yakisoba with five ingredients.

Recently, there are many types of retort curry available, and on the 2nd floor underground of Shinjuku Nakamuraya, there is Shinjuku Nakamuraya manna. It is a restaurant with an adult atmosphere where there is always a line. We had the first Indian-style curry in Japan. First, six types of condiments are brought to the table, and just reading the explanation makes your stomach growl! Here comes the big chicken with bones in it♪ Pour it over the rice and enjoy. Mmm, the spices are strong, but the taste is mellow✨ Is this the taste of history? (lol) Adding condiments enhances the flavor even more, and it goes well together. We enjoyed a wonderful adult curry experience. The nearest station is JR Shinjuku Station, a 2-minute walk away. I finished my work in Shinjuku and felt like having curry for lunch, so I decided to visit this restaurant. Luckily, I was able to be seated without waiting. I ordered the Nakamuraya Pure Indian Curry set with salad and a drink (2,380 yen). The salad was served in about 5 minutes, and I chose the combination salad with French dressing, which was easy to eat and to my liking. The curry was served in about 10 minutes, with the curry sauce and rice served separately. The curry sauce had a strong aroma and a flavorful spice that stimulated my appetite. The well-cooked chicken was tender and the curry had a rich flavor. Although the curry was delicious even without any condiments, I tried using the 6 different condiments provided. The pickled radish, aigre-doux, and powdered cheese were all tasty. The three chutneys (onion, mango, lemon) had a significant impact on the taste even with a small amount, making it a bit challenging to use them. Despite the changing flavors, the spice level remained the same, and I couldn't stop sweating. The price may be slightly high for a curry restaurant, but considering the good service from the staff, it's reasonable for a Western-style restaurant near Shinjuku Station. It was a delicious curry. Thank you for the meal.
