Once again, it was a sunny Sunday morning with strong sunlight. I had some errands near Nakano Station in the morning, so I took care of that and decided to have lunch. It was too hot to walk much, so I ended up visiting this place on the 6th floor of Marui, which I don't usually go to. It was around 12:10 PM when I entered. There was a group sitting on the left side, already quite drunk. On the right side, there were counter seats and table seats. I sat at a table for two and looked at the menu. I had initially thought of having the lunch tendon, but when I saw the menu, I changed my mind to the Summer Gourmet Set (1944 yen) and ordered a bottled beer (780 yen). The beer arrived promptly. There was no appetizer, but there was a jar on the table containing pickled mustard greens, simmered daikon and chicken, which we could help ourselves to. I nibbled on that while waiting for the tempura to arrive. About 7-8 minutes later, the first tempura arrived. It consisted of 2 prawns, conger eel, baby corn, and green beans. The conger eel was topped with plum paste from the beginning, and we were told to eat it as it is. The baby corn and green beans were freshly fried and hot. The prawns were a bit skinny, which was a bit disappointing. The second round was large clam and eggplant tempura. Inside the large clam shell were chopped clams, shiitake mushrooms, and trefoil, all fried together. It was a bit difficult to eat and I was a bit disappointed because I had imagined the clam meat to be whole. The third round was prawn and summer vegetable tempura, and I opted to have it as a tempura rice bowl. The tempura included finely chopped summer vegetables. If the vegetables were cut a bit larger, it would have been more satisfying, so this was also a bit disappointing. The miso soup didn't have many ingredients, which was also a bit disappointing. Overall, the tempura was decent, but with a few disappointments, it ended up feeling like a regular meal. I remember having delicious ice cream tempura at the Tsunahachi Honten in Shinjuku in the past. I found myself wishing I could have that tempura again. Thank you for the meal.
