I entered the store around 11:40 am on February 17, 2023, determined to explore a new restaurant. I visited "Teppan Johnny" located along the industrial road. The restaurant had a modest appeal, almost making it easy to overlook. Upon entering, I was greeted by two women. The seating options included a counter and table seats, and I chose to sit at the counter with a teppan (iron griddle) in front of me. I looked at the lunch menu, which featured Okinawan-influenced dishes such as Okinawa soba, motsu (tripe) stew set meal, Spam and egg set meal, Goya champuru set meal, black pork miso grilled set meal, ginger pork set meal, grilled mackerel set meal, fried horse mackerel set meal, chicken nanban set meal, chicken with grated radish and ponzu sauce set meal, chicken with chili sauce set meal, and beef steak set meal. I decided to order the "Chicken Nanban set meal (880 yen)." The background music in the restaurant was from the 80s to 90s, and the staff seemed to be tapping along to the rhythm. It seemed like a fun place for nighttime outings. As I waited, I saw the motsu stew bubbling in a pot behind the counter. The Chicken Nanban set meal was served with a colorful presentation, and the rice was in a bowl. The miso soup had green onions and seaweed, and you could change it to clam miso soup for an additional 100 yen. The tartar sauce was generously drizzled over the dish. I then tasted the dish. The batter was light, and the meat had a firm yet tender texture. However, I felt the vinegar was a bit weak, but it might vary depending on the location. I had one extra serving of rice, which almost filled up a bowl. The rice was cooked just right and delicious. I might try the ginger pork next time I visit. I paid using PayPay. Thank you for the meal.
